Mowiol · 21/08/2010 00:00

Slacks
prepared
oleaginous
greasy
menstrual

I just have words I hate - On the other hand I love under-used words such as:

Lollygagging,
Whippersnapper
Cad/bounder
Irksome
Indubitable
pipsqueak

what do others think?

Prepared? Really??

Luscious - vile word, all slobbery and squelchy...bleurgh.

AlgebraRocksMySocks · 21/08/2010 00:08

hate:
beaver
fanny (sensing a theme here?)
the phrase 'way shape form or fashion' makes me maaaad

like:
obstropulous/obstreperous
dingbat
pilchard
I also love anything my DD says - she's 3.2, and has brilliant language but finds the speech sounds difficult so she says things like 'weewool' for little etc. so cute :o

sterrryerryoh · 21/08/2010 00:09

I think it just reminds me of my granddad, Mowiol haha

booyhoo · 21/08/2010 00:09

sorry for being ignorant but what is the 3rd one,how do you pronounce it and what does it mean?

wineandroses · 21/08/2010 00:11

Love:
Avuncular
Hirsute
Squelchy
Hate:
Blob
Brangelina
Plop

Don't know why.

sterrryerryoh · 21/08/2010 00:11

I like ?curious? and am a fan of the word queer as in ?how queer? - I think that should make a comeback

Mowiol · 21/08/2010 00:12

Ooh - love luscious, totally forgot that one!!
Don't really know why "slacks" gets up my nose but I just think it's a horrible word!!

OP posts:
BarmyArmy · 21/08/2010 00:12

ocharina

FallingWithStyle · 21/08/2010 00:13

Love egregious!

FallingWithStyle · 21/08/2010 00:15

Luscious is like an unwanted grope. Feel all dorty afterwards.

Mowiol · 21/08/2010 00:16

Oleaginous - "oily" would be best definition!! Possibly with reference to a dirty old man.

CoinOperatedGirl · 21/08/2010 00:18

I hate the word ramekin, god knows why but I do.

Nemofish · 21/08/2010 00:19

I hate the word 'gobsmacked' but it is so descriptive and conjures up such an image.

I. Am. Gobsmacked.

And I hate 'made' up words like, 'catched' instead of caught and 'buyed' instead of bought.

booyhoo · 21/08/2010 00:21

eugh it is definitely a horrible word in that case. yuck, i feel creepy just knowing it now Grin

Mowiol · 21/08/2010 00:22

Ramekin.....hmmmm....see your point CoinOperatedGirl.....but like you I don;t know why??? Odd isn't it? For me words just conjure up good/bad images and I have absolutely no idea why!!??

OP posts:
Nemofish · 21/08/2010 00:24

Because your brain hears:

Ram a kin, grease up and just ram a kin.

Eugh...

OP posts:
stleger · 21/08/2010 00:31

I don't like armpit.

Starbuck999 · 21/08/2010 00:32

SkylineDrifter · 21/08/2010 00:34

I love the word serendipity. Not sure there's any I particularly hate.

Mowiol · 21/08/2010 00:34

If you don't like "armpit" use the Scots word "oxter" instead. Or Axilla which is anatomically correct!!
