To think that 6 weeks hol is too long?

Can't help thinking that 3 or 4 would be better for parents and kids, who get bored so easily.

I always thought much too short!

So I now have them home 52 weeks a year!

Not for the kids

Next year dc's have nine weeks

Nope, I am more than happy to put off ds1 starting school for another 7 and a half weeks!

I like the holidays, and we have 7 weeks.

I think it's great for kids to forget about school and routines for a while.

Yes DD gets bored sometimes, but that's life.
She has a room full of toys and books, can do all the housework if she can't find anything else to do (never happens!), and has a street full of other kids to play with.

YANBU. I'm living in Ireland now and my DD has 10 weeks holidays. Yes I said 10 weeks and it rains and rains and rains.

it's nice not to get up so early and if you do work it's not such a rush

Try 8 weeks! DS has already been off for 2 weeks, only another 6 to go!

In fact I'd said to DD that we'd do two paid things during these holidays, and I doubt we'll do either now, my health isn't up to it but we'll still have fun, we are having fun. We are well into the holidays here in Scotland.

We get 8 weeks here in Northern Ireland,and in the South they get 12 weeks! Mine are doing lots of camps etc...

yabu, we will struggle to be bored, would like another week or 2 tbh

I'd prefer just 4 weeks and have extra at Christmas. Its usually only a week after the actual day before they go back so not much time with new things or for visiting relatives.

for the working parents, like me, it is definitely too long. For the children, not a problem. I used to have 10 weeks as a child and never complained about it.

Right now I feel like we have 6 glorious weeks of holiday in front of us and I cant wait I am ready for it they are ready for it and I dont feel it is to long at all

we have 5 1/2 weeks. Seems a bit short. They are so tired they need a break tbh.

my kids get 9 weeks off and have already been off for nearly 2 weeks, zooomed by and great to have them around. Im lucky to juggle my career around their schooling but i do feel for the working mother who cant do this.
its trying to find that fine juggle of holiday, work, kids clubs etc without the child feeling like them are being pushed in lots of different directions.
Esporta is a good one for holiday clubs as the kids do soooooo much and love it there.

Do you think 6 weeks is too much in one go, or that they have too many holidays?

If I wasn't signed off sick, I'd have been a working parent, and would have sent DD to her CM, the same as any other time I'd be working.

What differs for you?

I'm genuinely interested, not having a go.

Mine have 5 1/2 wks. I think they need longer. The time passes so quickly and i love having them all home. Of course no early morning school runs is a bonus.

talking to the wrong person here - primary schools broke up at the end of june and start again early sept; last day of term at SIL's school was May 28th!!

Live in Ireland, summer hols are ridiculously long - really difficult for working parents

We have 5 and a half weeks for summer but get 2 weeks in May / June half term. Works a treat.

I really wouldn't like more time at Christmas. What are you supposed to do. The weather's miserable, shops are heaving.

How do you keep them occupied though?
It's okay if they are sim age and like same activities, otherwise it's a nightmare as if you please oldest, youngest is not happy amd vice versa.

I'd be quite happy with the kids getting 6 weeks off if I did too!

My children have eight weeks, and that's just dandy.

You need a couple of rules, and a little bit of structure, and the fun stuff just falls into place.

We have a no TV/internet rule between 11am, and 5pm, and a big poster on the wall where we all scribble ideas for fun stuff to do.

It honestly should be the best few weeks of the year shouldn't it... If you're lucky enough to be at home with your children for a few precious uninterrupted weeks... make the most of it for gawd's sake.
