Someone PLEASE tell me that nutmeg is not a nut!

I know I'm probably being silly, but someone just tell me okay?

I have some friends coming over for dinner. One is very very very allergic to nuts. The posh 95% meat happy pig sausages I bought say they're seasoned with sage and nutmeg. The allergy advice only mentions gluten. So it's fine for a nut allergy sufferer - right?

I don't think it's a nut, because it's a spice - but I don't really know. If they are severely allergic then your friend will know, surely? Do you have back up non-nutmeg sausages?!

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/02/2009 18:15

this would suggest it's safe

NoBiggy · 19/02/2009 18:15

Apparently it's not a nut and it's not a particular risk to those with nut allergy.

Google search for nutmeg and allergy should turn up something relevant.

as does this

poppy34 · 19/02/2009 18:16

apparently shoudl be ok

better link to medical site

but i'd tell your friend and let her decide as she is probably well up on what is ok and not.

read down a bit for a fuller explanation

Thanks!

She will know, and I will still check with her, but I would have been a bit if I'd been so careful asking what she couldn't have (allergic to seafoood too) and then got sausages with nuts in!
