Welcome back to everyone who spent the day at Dyson HQ talking about allergies - hope you had a fun, interesting and useful day .

Please can you use this thread to post your feedback about the day - including anything new you learnt about allergies and how you can control them, your dust busting tips, how you are finding your new Dyson Allergy vac, what feedback you had from the Dyson microbiologists on the dust sample you took with you, and anything else you think other Mumsnetters with allergies in their family may find useful.

If you didn't attend the day but have questions for our new allergy-specialist Mumsnetters or for Dyson, please feel free to post them here too and we'll do our best to get them answered.

Thanks, MNHQ

well if I got nets I'd have to use non-biological liquid or the special wshing stuff. Can you use that at 60C? Don't have to worry about cigarette smoke though.

FinallyGotDyson · 15/09/2008 13:27

I've no idea! I will have to do my research on that.

I've been looking at car kits. Am a bit that some shops are selling it cheaper than on the dyson website but will investigate that further too.

TheOldestCatHairsInTheCyclone · 15/09/2008 19:15

Hey tatt

I washed our net curtain (well, large piece of gauze-style stuff we use) using non-bio at 60 and it's still white.

Pleased it finally arrived, finallygotdyson! woo hoo! sounds like you've made up for it.

Desperate - my DD likes the dusting tool too...

Camilla, if you're reading this, I'm really really sorry for inadvertently inviting you to a Chas 'n Dave gig at the weekend - you must think I'm a right loon. I meant to invite a friend of mine, also called Camilla

callmemitey · 15/09/2008 20:39

Ha! I knew you were a secret Chas and Dave fan

I do like the "Dysonettes" perhaps we could form a group and play a tune on our new cleaners

I have no new news to report as I was ill yesterday and at work today DD seems a bit less itchy though so perhaps all the sweat and intensive vacuuming was worth it.

I am going to keep my old machine. I will use it for the rough jobs like the car boot after a tip run. Save my lovely new machine for the house.

That is unless Dyson want to swap it for a full accessories pack - they could put in in the glass floor like a dinosaur exhibit

tatt · 15/09/2008 20:44

TOCHITC tell me that when you've washed them 6 times and I'll feel happier about buying them . I found a suggestion elsewhere of denture tablets - so its my entry to the current mumsnet tip competition.

Interesting that finallygotdyson likes it as I've used a Vax and would happily swap my dyson for one.

I hate nets. Probably because pre DD we smoked and they were always yellow and smelly. I am re-considering them though. For her bedroom anyway.

As for the old Dyson. I think they grew too fast as a business and may have forgot about the original spec of long lasting machines with the pressure of feeding the demand for newer and better things. Many people slate certain models. My old one was an original DC02 (the 01 was the upright)and as never caused me any trouble.

Cylenders are better than uprights with long hair, the rotating brushes are a nightmare. As others have said they have now developed a rotating head that you can take appart - it even has a groove to put your scissors into! I would have to see it in action but it did look good.

DesperateTooDyson · 15/09/2008 21:35

LOL theoldestcat - that is so funny. Did CamillaDyson not want to go to the concert?

She probably thought you were stalking her!

Had very busy morning dysoning the house. Had to empty the dust 3 times

I really like the way the you can twist your wrist and it can go sideways into smaller width spaces, iykwim. Most others have not got the flexibilty in the telescopic arm to do it. Just wish the stair tool could do the same.

Attacked dd's room today and stealing myself to do ds' room - it's sooo messy with all his little figures and lego everywhere.

FinallyGotDyson · 15/09/2008 21:38

Tatt, the Vax is heavy and cumbersome. It topples over at the drop of a hat and is a nightmare for stairs. That coupled with the greatly decreased suction after a very short time hoovering - it's not a patch on my dyson baby - imo.

LOL @ "dysonettes"

Has anyone researched the prices of the car kits.....?

I googled for it and the results were surprising.......

FinallyGotDyson · 15/09/2008 21:39

Oh yes - PMSL at TOC inviting poor Camilla to a Chas n Dave concert

TheOldestCatHairsInTheCyclone · 15/09/2008 22:41

I'm still cringing about it; I considered emailing Camilla Dyson to explain, but thought that might be even more stalkerish. Oh dear, oh dear.

I'm not a Cockernee music fan generally, it's just they were 'headlining' Lewisham Country Fayre.

Anyway, glad you're all enjoying your dysons, must look into those car kits as Finally.... says.

CamillaDyson · 16/09/2008 09:54

Ha ha - laughing lots at the Chas & Dave. I had figured that I wasn't the intended invitee...!!

Glad that everyone seems to be getting OK with machines.

Think I mentioned it when you were with us, but if you can email us the serial numbers we'll register your five year guarantees.

If anyone has questions that need answering, I do try and check this daily (!) and so i'll answer them if possible.

CostaRicanCod · 16/09/2008 09:55

camilla
they bleieved me abotu he assualt course.

CostaRicanCod · 16/09/2008 09:55

adn btw adverts still shit

what IS that woman wearing in teh latest one? was it made in 1976?

CamillaDyson · 16/09/2008 10:39

I know - no-one could relax until they were about to leave and they realised that the assault course didn't actually exist!

Sorry you don't like the ads. Tough times in the world of vacuum cleaners and so we've had to raid the charity shops for the ad outfits...

CostaRicanCod · 16/09/2008 10:39

have oyu seen her sensible footwear?

CostaRicanCod · 16/09/2008 10:40

whizz to 27 seconds - are htoe YOUR SHOEs and skirt camilla?

CamillaDyson · 16/09/2008 10:48

They're pretty special aren't they?

Cod - I wasn't on the ad shoot but I will pass on your feedback to our marketing dude Adam who I can blame for the interesting wardrobe decisions.

FinallyGotDyson · 16/09/2008 16:54

Okay.

I have done some research.

It seems you can buy the Dyson Car Kit cheaper from other suppliers - including VAT & P & P than you can on the Dyson webshop.

Why is this Camilla?

callmemitey · 16/09/2008 20:04

Oh No Moderately - how did you manage that? Get one of the DC to use it for you. I also find DD very handy with a wet wipe on the coffee table etc. She loves to help Although it is a curse as well as a blessing at times

Camilla - you lurker you! I have emailed for another reason and will do the serial number now.

FinallyGotDyson · 16/09/2008 21:45

How on earth did you hurt yourself MM?

CamillaDyson · 17/09/2008 09:56

hello. No hidden reason for the price difference. We set the RRP and sometimes run what we call value add promotions - where you'll get a free kit if you buy a full sized cleaner. But we don't tend to do price discounting unless something is coming to its life end (which sounds quite sad and dramatic!). Just different ways of working.

Although we don't sell accessories on here, we do have an eBay outlet: stores.ebay.co.uk/Dyson-Outlet

Callmemitey - got your email and will reply in a bit.

FinallyGotDyson · 17/09/2008 18:07

I saw your ebay outlet

Jolly good.

Do you know the details of stores/shops that sell your accessories?
