And ds is now covered in excema

He had excema as a baby which was made worse by Bold, Fairy and Ecover washing powders but Persil non-bio was fine....and now they've changed it....and sure enough ds has gone scaley and itchy

Anyone else having this problem?

We think that it's Lavender which he is particularly sensitive to - anyone know if surcare (?) has lavender in.

My surcare softener has lavender in it - not sure about the washing powder/liquid.

Last year, I had a massive reaction to Persil and havng sent them a sample, after I had asked whether they'd changed perfume (it's usually the perfume they change rather than the formula) they sent the results which confimred that the PH for that batch was over what it should be. They were very apologetic.

I did notice though, the persil fragrance has dramatically changed recently so I guess it might be that.

popmum · 15/05/2008 12:54

try filetti (pink pack) - tis v good for sensitive skin. Not always in tesco but sainsburys and waitrose have it

Saz73 · 15/05/2008 12:57

Funny you should mention that I've used Persil non bio since DS was born (he's nearly 5 now) and had really bad eczma. It's been totally clear now for near 2 yrs, But just recently it's reappeared on his arms and fingers. Maybe just a coincidence.

bearmama · 15/05/2008 12:58

Why the need for perfume???
I use surcare, dont think it has lavender, but do check.

clutteredup · 15/05/2008 13:00

thank you - yes i have had the same problem . my ds is sensitive and i found it was only persil ordinary that didn't cause a reaction and now he's coming outin rashes again - it would explain it- and now you mention it i have noticed i can smell my washing again, you don't smell it when its the same all the time. hey ho off to find another that doesn't react.

luciemule · 15/05/2008 13:01

Forgot to say that it was non bio I was talking about

mummyeme · 15/05/2008 13:18

Hi,
Dds had exaclty the same problem, she has exczma and thats flared up a lot recently. Crikey Persil should realise whats happening, I didn't think to check the Persil as I had assumed they'd always be careful with the non bio, and didn't think that it would change.
Thankyou very much for raising it.
Anyone got other good non bio recomendations (and maybe a spell checker for me - Sorry)

clutteredup · 15/05/2008 13:24

I have had the same problem with the ordinary Persil too so it looks like they've changed all the ones. ironically my DS had reactions to the non bio but not the bio.

pooka · 15/05/2008 13:30

How weird - ds has had a bit of a flare up lately, and dh took him to the docs. Usual questions about whether had changed fabric detergent. But still use persil non-bio like always have. This might explain the flare up.

Loshad · 15/05/2008 13:32

Surcare has no lavender in it, also very good is Boots own brand sensitive skin washin powder.

Nbg · 15/05/2008 13:33

Yes yes yes, we are having the same here!

Ds1 has been covered in red blotchy patches which just spread and got bigger.

Ds2 has got it now too.

I noticed that the smell of it has changed.

frankie3 · 15/05/2008 13:33

I use Persil non-bio and I have also noticed that my washing has started to have a strong smell. I thought that my washing machine was maybe not rinsing properly..... but now realise it must be the tablets.

Has anyone tried Ecover?

Nbg · 15/05/2008 13:33

Forgot to add ds1 was prescribed Aveeno cream and Hydromol.

Nbg · 15/05/2008 13:35

Frankie, I bought ecover and I didnt see a difference but we were using it in conjunction with the creams so I wouldn't know if it was that or the cream that helped.

I personally didnt like it because there isnt really a scent to it.

Enid · 15/05/2008 13:35

filetti is brilliant

unfortunately it is expensive and my local sainsburys and tescos dont stock it any more

I use boots senstive skin now

Enid · 15/05/2008 13:36

I dont rate ecover

it didnt help dd2s excema and it smells horrible

theyoungvisiter · 15/05/2008 13:45

I'm not having a problem with eczema (although I do suffer with it occasionally) but I did notice the change in formula big time as the new scent they use makes me violently sick.

I am pregnant and suffering pretty bad morning sickness but I never had a problem with the old formula. I had to throw away a huge 5k box and am now trying various others to see if I can tolerate any.

Isn't it weird? SHall we start a campaign to revert to the old formula!

Nbg · 15/05/2008 13:48

I think we should forward this to Persil.

mummyeme · 15/05/2008 13:54

I've just called persil to report it and said that a lot of people are experiencing the same problem. They said my comments will be forwarded but they can only advise that the liquid hasn't changed, so stick to that !?!
Can't say I'm satisfied that they'll do anything other than log my conversation

mummyeme · 15/05/2008 13:57

When I said that people are looking for alternatives, his advise was that an alternative product was a great risk of causing the same problem aaaagggghhhhhh and to stick to persil was the safest option

Nbg · 15/05/2008 14:05

I use powder not liquid.

Millarkie · 15/05/2008 14:13

mummyene - thanks for calling persil - I might try the liquid - I use the tablets at the moment and have 2 big boxes of the new stinky nasty type because it was on special offer.

Ds definitely has problems with ecover - dMIL used to wash his clothes at her place if he stayed over (she used to look after him one day a week) and then he flared up if he wore them and I used to have to wash them twice to get rid of it. It's taken 5 years to persuade her that she is not helping me by washing them!

I haven't tried Ariel yet -

Has anyone been using Persil liquid without any problems??

Millarkie · 15/05/2008 14:18

I'm ringing the persil advice line and i'm in queue....are you all ringing too?

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 15/05/2008 14:23

i am allergic to non bios

i use tesco bio and is fine tho their non bio isnt

i also reacted to ecover and surcare

i agree it is infuriating when they change the spec

fym · 15/05/2008 14:35

I have terrible allergy to Persil, so does DS

I only use Arial Sensitive - never had a problem with me or with DS.

Our allergy is sneezing/sore throats caused by the perfume rather than excema.
