Dairy Free Christmas Food

Thought I’d start off a list of Christmas food finds for All of those who are DF this Christmas. I’ll start off with:

Bisto Best gravy
Lidl mint thins
Lidl Mince pies
Iceland Mince Pies
Iceland Turkey
Elizabeth Shaw mint crisps

Might add a few more later. Please feel free to add your DF festive food

Halabeke Morrisons?! Well, that's sorted out where I'm going this morning, I love stollen and haven't had a chance to get to Lidl (which is further).

Morrison's value dark chocolate is DF

Jus-roll pains au chocolat are DF

Oatly ready made custard. Delicious!

Thanks Molly. I haven’t tried the Oatly one and I react to the Alpro custard. Good to know that I can have some this year 🙂

Birds custard powder. I just make it with rice milk. mmmmmmmm......

I know Xmas is really a busy time, but isn't one answer to cook more from scratch.

A traditional roast meat, veg and spuds dinner needn't contain any dairy. (One can put olive oil in mash if that's being done - or just buy particular brands of potatoes like Asda Marabel's - that have a buttery flavour.)

Deserts are definitely more complicated! Though again there seem to be a lot of recipes online for people who are going the home cooked route. Fruit salad and sorbets are good. There seem to be plenty of vegan ice creams about. (I'd be tempted by the idea of making a pavlova and putting a vanilla vegan ice cream on top.

I can also recommend the high cocoa content dark chocolate sold by Lidl.

Host there’s no way on earth I’m making my own pastry. There would be complaints. Loud complaints from many people. Pastry hates me.

I'm not keen on margarine either, I don't blame you! I make all meals df, it's easier and people won't notice, especially if it's a roast! But definitely check all packaging, milk lurks in some unexpected places!!

Also, I think the just-roll ready made pastry is all dairy free, even the puff pastry. Double check, but I seem to remember using it before.

oh yes morrisons is on fire this christmas all sorts of stuff. I also noticed a lot of dairy free yummy sweet things in sainsbury's and tesco, also co op have some bits. I know the thread isn't about veganism but there's a fb page called 'vegan supermarket finds uk' or something like that where people post random 'accidentally vegan but not really advertised as such' stuff they find, so may be useful to anyone looking for dairy free stuff.

I would also highly recommend Swedish Glace ice cream, it's fairly inexpensive and you can find it in most major supermarkets. It's one of the most delicious vanilla ice creams I've had, dairy or not, I quite like a bit with a hot mince pie over the festive season! Ben and jerry's have just released a few dairy free flavours, they are nice, but quite expensive I think!

The Ben and Jerrys vegan ice cream is amazing - I haven't had anything other than chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavour for years! Banana and something (caramel?) was very exciting! I'm eying the chocolate fudge one next.

Great thread! I’ll be dairy free this Christmas as I’m breastfeeding a baby with a suspected CMPA.

Coop Irresistible Christmas Pudding is dairy free. Discovered by accident when some friends served it and i checked the ingredients. It was really tasty so I bought one for us for Christmas. I reckon it’ll be lovely with some Oatly cream.

I’m worried about Chocolate Yule log. It won’t be Christmas without it. I don't suppose anyone has seen a dairy free one on sale or knows a good recipe?

And is there anything I should look out for that you wouldn’t expect to have milk in it but it does?

Not terribly Christmassy but Greggs Belgian buns are vegan! I ate two at a sitying when I realised

Ikea also have v.nice gingerbread thins which are vegan, for those with an Ikea in reach.

Namechange30 salt and vinegar crisps often have milk/lactose in why?!?

Co-op have festive doughnuts that are dairy and egg free, they have white icing and gold sprinkles.

Asda have some dairy free mince pies.

Today I found luxury “free from” chocolate Yule logs in Asda and Tesco! I bought both obviously. Research.

M&S chocolate and coconut cream drink, like a vegan Baileys!

And is there anything I should look out for that you wouldn’t expect to have milk in it but it does? unfortunately everything. I’d check the labels on everything you eat and keep checking because occasionally they change the recipes and it isn’t always obvious.

Name I’ve so overwhelmed that you are prepared to go to such lengths to help us. Have we got any results yet?

I took one for the team and opened the Tesco Yule log. It’s not bad but it’s rather dry. So not a full thumbs up from me.
Sadly won’t be able to compare it to the Asda one just yet. It’s just DH and me eating them atm and we’re going away before Christmas so we won’t eat them both before we go. I’ll save the Asda one for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Bit of a risk but needs must!

Noticed today that Costa have a vegan Christmas cake slice in their stores- does this mean dairy free? I am guessing yes, and also egg free?

I looked for the Yule log in Tesco today but didn't find it.

I think it depends on the store. I had to pop to another (similar size) Tesco today and they didn’t have it.

Think we need a tester for the Adsa Yule Log? Is anyone willing to step forward?

Don’t know if we’ve already mentioned the Asda Mince Pies but their 89p ones are DF! Full of crap mind...

Thenewaverage. vegan should mean DF & EF but I can’t find the product, or its allergy information online. Has anyone seen the ingredients for themselves?
