dd3 had a reaction to eggs today.

went round my mums for dinner, and mum had made baked alaska. oh it was lovely. but dd3 grabbed my bowl, i didnt let her have any as its partially cooked egg white, but her hands, arms and face where she had touched it with her hands came up in urticaria within a few moments. her breathing etc was fine so wasnt too worried. its gone down now.

not really, was hoping to avoid allergies this time round. other 2 dd's have various allergies but not to egg. i guess scrambled egg is out the window.

i did do a quick check to make sure and dabbed a bit of egg white on her arm, and a weal appeared under it. felt awful doing it though.

darn.

she is under a yr old so had to phone to see if she could have piriton. she can but a small dose only. gp on the phone has said to ask for her to be tested.

DD had reactions to egg at 7 months and 10 months and again at just over a year .. she's 19 months now and wolfs them down

maybe DD3 will grow out of it

(don't know what uticaria is, but DD came out in red rash with heat lumps in them wherever the egg touched)

i just told peter, he said he is going to stay in hospital as he'll end up killing the kids by giving them something they shouldn't have. i told him to stop over reacting lol.

God Misdee, that must have been alarming. Orinoco's right about checking before MMR, btw, mumps vaccine is cultured on chick embryos (but you may be wise to this already, with other allergies in the family?).

dd1 is allegic to tartrazine, cats, dust mites( we think), has hayfever, asthma, eczema.

dd2 has eczema and reacts to some products containing latex (plasters and knicker elastic), also cats, and keep her off tartrazine.

dd3, eggs so far.

Immunosuppressive effects.

just a pain. dd1 asthma can be set off by cats tho. but i keep a close eye and check on them after an allergic reaction as was told that allergies can disappear with age or worsen.

misdee, ds is very allergic to uncooked egg - ended up having adrenalin in hospital when he ate a chocolate mousse containing raw eggwhite. cooked egg (cooked till solid) is fine though and he loves omlettes and fried egg sandwiches. the rpotein changes when cooked so it is oftern only raw eggthat poses a problem.

My ds is also allergic to raw egg white. I have not been brave enought to try hin on cooked egg. He had bloods done for allergy tested before xmas, so i will wait for the results to those first.

dd had this as a yunger baby and has outgrown it at age 3
she is fine with cooked eggs etc but raw egg will cause a little spot.
It used to be really bad, but we banned eggs altogether and it is worth it to now see her able to eat cakes and eggy bread

My DS who is nearly 1, had an allergic reaction to humous at 7 months and as a result was told, 'next time it happens, give him Piriton'.

However, after seeing him struggle to breath, face, lips and tongue swollen (after having two pea-size amounts of humous), I insisted on him being tested.

He was tested by a peadiatrician at Bristol's Children Hospital the day before Xmas and we now know he's allergic to sesame, egg white and all nuts (except peanuts). They tested him for dairy and soya also as he'd had ezcema since he was two weeks old and I changed his formula to soya instead of normal.

So insist with your GP to have your son tested - it takes 20 minutes to do. And then you'll have piece of mind.

Plus the doctor did say that 80% of children grow out of egg allergies by the age of 5. Sesame and nut allergies do not go though. So it's best to know - especially if you have a MIL who gives your child everything I ask her not to!!!
