Sober November

Will anyone join me in an alcohol free November? I've been trying to stop drinking alcohol since August. I've strung together a few days, and week, here and there but haven't cracked it.

I have realised that I don't even like drinking most of the time. It's a habit and my automatic way to switch off at the end of a stressful day. I'm aiming for a dry month to make new habits and evaluate what I actually get from alcohol.

Join me for some accountability!

Hi Sober. I’m in please. My drinking has been creeping up and up after a shocking few months but in truth it’s been excessive for years now. Let’s do this! 👊

SoberNovemberandon · 01/11/2026 11:53

Yes! I completely know what you mean about the creep. I've also had a shocking couple of months and have used it as an excuse to keep drinking, because it helps for all of 20 minutes. But it doesn't help, and there will always be an excuse.

Yep. Always an excuse. I’m the absolute Queen of them and detest how dependent I’ve become on alcohol. It’s the expense as well!

InMy40sEra · 01/11/2026 12:17

I’d love to join you.

I used to adore white wine in particular, but it’s been giving me horrendous anxiety and depression lately.

I switched to red, and I do tend to stick to just one glass of that, but I want to cut that out, too.

I always do a full dry January every year, so will absolutely do a full November. I’m stubborn like that, and never quit something that I’m determined to do.

My plan going forward to is to moderate to very little alcohol, and weekends only.
I really should cut out wine at home, completely, and maybe that’s a thought for 2027

Snugglebear · 01/11/2026 12:19

I’m up for joining!

Buntyforgirls · 01/11/2026 12:21

Me too, please!

Coffeekat · 01/11/2026 18:16

This is a very timely thread for me. I’ve just finished sober October with the aim being to keep on going, however, on my walk home tonight I found myself toying with the idea of having a glass of Prosecco (as if - More like the bottle!), and I really want to stay AF as long as I can, at least until Xmas, so thank you for this thread!

InMy40sEra · 01/11/2026 19:31

Night one. Just had my cup of tea.

Best of luck to everyone

Enjoy your tea @InMy40sEra - I’m pleased to say that my longing for a 🍷 was quietened with a tonic water and a few dashes of angostura bitters when I got in. I’d had a busy afternoon at work and desperately wanted that quick relaxation that a glass of wine brings, but the urge soon passes.

SoberNovemberandon · 01/11/2026 19:39

Welcome everyone! I went to the pub and had a soft drink. I'm feeling grateful not to be feeling foggy and reaching for the next drink now.

Hello everyone! I’m back to school tomorrow (teacher) and would normally be having a couple of wines ‘to take the edge off’. I haven’t drunk today and am delighted. Having a night-time tea 🫖 and off to bed soon for an early night!

SomethingElse73 · 01/11/2026 19:59

I’d like to join please! I was thinking of doing this and then I saw your post. I had breast cancer two years ago, so have been quite good at restricting my drinking since then (weekends only) but it messes up my sleep for days after, I eat crap & gain weight, and I don’t really enjoy it anyway!

Coffeekat · 01/11/2026 20:01

You’ll be so pleased when you wake with a fresh head tomorrow morning @NunsBuns.

Buntyforgirls · 02/11/2026 21:58

Checking in for day 2.✔
Seems like everyone had a good day 1, hope today went as well.

SoberNovemberandon · Yesterday 07:19

Day 2 done here too! Something feels different this time. Now that I've committed it feels freeing not to have the constant negotiating with myself - especially at 5pm when I would usually reach for a drink.

Coffeekat · Yesterday 07:32

Morning! I agree, it’s incredibly freeing not having to deal with that exhausting battle of negotiating with yourself constantly.

Another night down, and it’s all becoming a little bit easier now and the sleep is so worth it! For anyone having sleep issues, stick with it because it really does pay off. I hit the pillow now and sleep soundly through - gone are the 2-3 am wake ups.

NunsBuns · Yesterday 07:42

Well done!! I felt so rough yesterday with a stinking cold that I got straight into bed when I got home at 6pm so didn’t even need to have the debate with myself. Haven’t drunk since Saturday now!! 👌👌

needtoquit · Yesterday 08:09

I’m in I just posted on another thread. I did 6 months this year I felt great. I’m back to my anxious exhausted self again. I had my last drink Saturday night (well maybe Sunday early hours). I currently have a lot of self loathing.

Fupoffyagrasshole · Yesterday 08:37

I’ve got a 2 & 5 year old and my hangovers have gotten awful - so when I have a night out drinking I then am a crap parent that next day too and then that leads to me feeling so guilty and like I’m a crap mum

it’s just not worth it

i enjoy drinking but I think my body just can’t handle it anymore - it was fine when I could stay in bed all weekend after a night out - but that’s not an option anymore

when I had my previous break from drinking my husband and I went on a few nights out and we jumped on lime bikes home and drove to one of the nights and it was bliss getting home

my husband hasn’t drank in almost 6 months and he’s been taking us out for dinner once a week - something we used to struggle to afford - but somehow we had money for a few drinks - and now he’s saying well the money I’m saving can go on a nice family meal out!!

when you think about it logically it is an awful waste of money alcohol!!

Hugasaurusrex · Yesterday 08:37

Yep I’m in.

givingupimdone · Yesterday 08:39

I’m with you! I reached a year sober on 28/10/26 and keen to continue as I feel fab for it…… but life and dark nights and cold weather means I need some motivation….. LETS DO THIS
