Sober November

Will anyone join me in an alcohol free November? I've been trying to stop drinking alcohol since August. I've strung together a few days, and week, here and there but haven't cracked it.

I have realised that I don't even like drinking most of the time. It's a habit and my automatic way to switch off at the end of a stressful day. I'm aiming for a dry month to make new habits and evaluate what I actually get from alcohol.

Join me for some accountability!

That’s amazing @givingupimdone and very inspirational.

I've also had a long stretch of sobriety (around 2 years) and I really didn't miss it. Started having a cocktail a day on a holiday, and a couple of years later it's crept up to daily drinking. It's so sneaky. I need to take a good long break, but even a month feels a lot at the moment so it's one day at a time. This thread is really motivating me.

I just feel really tearful reading this. I’m so cross I slipped back into old ways. I’ve got crushing anxiety from Saturday night still and want to crawl into a hole.

I feel like I’m always going to have this reputation even if I stop.

It's insidious isn't it? I've also done over a year AF, even found the old thread I was on the other day, but again I convinced myself that I could go back to it and moderate - and whilst it didn't happen instantly, I was soon back to my old amounts.

I really want this to be the last time that I go through this and I hope by doing these month at a time challenges it will keep me moving forward.

Oh bless you. You can't change the past, but you can change the future. It'll be such a relief to be free and not have to drink anymore.

Oh I’ll join ! I do à dry month 3 or 4 times à year . I only drink at weekends normally but was off last wee for mid term and only had 2 days when I didn’t drink !! It makes me tired and anxious . I love being off it but next Friday will be hard !!!

Coffeekat · Today 07:21

Welcome @Dublassie , I normally buy a decent bottle of sparkling AF wine for the weekend - the ceremony of popping the cork and pouring into a nice glass seems to work and keeps the wine witch at bay!

Hello, I’d like to join too please. I’m menopausal and just can’t drink alcohol anymore without feeling dreadful the next day due to disturbed sleep. Day 3 so far and I’m sleeping like a baby and feel so much better for it. I also want to see if I can lose any weight from not drinking.

Friday will be hard. We almost always have wine and a pizza on Friday nights.
I’ve been so tempted to buy wine every time I’ve been to the supermarket this week.

I’ll look at the AF wines when I’m there again tomorrow.
