You won’t be. Have you taken notice of any of the multiple comments on this post?

The advice on my box was to not drink any alcohol for 48 hours after your last tablet

don’t risk it, what I’ve read on chats online people have been really ill drinking on them

fipsandchish · 06/02/2026 21:25

If you enjoy being sick, go for it!

ScaryM0nster · 06/02/2026 21:27

It doesn’t last for days in your body and build up, it passes through.

So you’ve started the course, it’s in your system sitting there ready to react with the alcohol.

Unless you enjoy the norovirus experience, don’t.

Maddy70 · 06/02/2026 22:21

I thought I would wing it. I have never been so violently sick. And makes the antibiotic ineffective. It is not like other antibiotics at all!

AlwaysTheRenegade · 06/02/2026 22:39

Seriously, don't do it. But if you do please update tomorrow 😁

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 06/02/2026 22:45

I was on it about 12 years ago and went out had about 2 wines. Felt hammered and thought I was going to die. Stayed in bed for about 2 days and my mum had to have DD as I was just so bad. I’m still scarred from that night

Sofuckingsad · 06/02/2026 22:47

I had a horrible tooth infection and tried to kill the pain by rubbing brandy on my gum so I could sleep. The next day I went to dentist, -and got those antibiotics. I took one in the chemists. Three minutes later I was on my hands and knees on the high street cos the whole world tilted sideways. Never experienced anything like it.

custardcreamsrock · 06/02/2026 23:30

Nurse here, yea go ahead, chug the alcohol, however before you do, just set up a nice little comfy camp site around your bog as you are probably about to spend the next 48hours becoming a lot more intimate with the inside of your shitter as you then proceed to vomit up you what will feel like most of your major organs, wishing you the best of British my dear as you are going to need it 👍

Frannieisnthappy · 06/02/2026 23:50

28 years ago and the memories are scary. I have never been so ill.

Designless · 07/02/2026 00:39

It doesn't affect me but it's risky to find out!

Tigerbalmshark · 07/02/2026 01:59

It’s been six hours, do we think OP has been vomiting ever since 20:03? 🤣

StabbyCat · 07/02/2026 02:01

Go for it. They just want to spoil your fun.

IndigoBluey · 07/02/2026 02:09

OP is on the toilet seat and won’t be off for a good while yet. Drink and drugs 👎

Hollyhobbi · 07/02/2026 02:30

Gosh ye all are in a bad way if ye can't stop drinking alcohol for a week or however long the antibiotics are prescribed for!

I had a bad tooth infection and was on both metronidazole and amoxicillin. I went to a party and drank (lots) and was perfectly fine.

I mentioned it up my dentist and he said it doesn’t affect everyone, only some - but they have to warn you just in case.

I was prescribed it abroad for similar reason the first time and didn’t get given all the warnings so I had a wine on a couple of evenings and was absolutely fine.
I’ve since been prescribed it again here and it comes with the warning but I can take wine and be ok.
But it must affect most people to have all those warnings

gtamum · 07/02/2026 08:52

One other thing to consider is that taking alcohol reduces the effects of the antibiotic, so even that one tablet will be pointless now. Plus for antibiotics to be effective you need to be following the instructions and taking them regularly.

Im a dentist and regularly prescribe antibiotics. I’ve heard so many horror stories about metronidazole.

25mini7 · 07/02/2026 09:01

God no, I got ill by using mouthwash with alcohol in it with that evil antibiotic.

Are you still alive?

BruisedNeckMeat · 07/02/2026 12:16

I am concerned for the OP. Hope she saw sense.

nikamoz · 07/02/2026 12:46

Well thanks for all the concerns but I was totally fine on 3 glasses of wine.I guess it affects people differently .

Glad you were ok. As I said upthread, I was too. It doesn’t make everyone sick.

Furlane · 07/02/2026 12:49

I was fine drinking wine on it too!
