Dry Jan 2026- anyone care to join in?

Since there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated dry Jam thread I thought I would start one and see if I get any company.
I so need this. Drinking has made me feel sluggish, anxiety ridden and awful. I remembered how great I felt doing it last year but slipped back into old habits far too easily.

I'll join you! I actually stopped on Saturday, although I had a glass of wine with dinner last night (still in December though!). Never done it before so will be interesting.

BigButtons · 01/01/2026 11:52

Hi @Eyesopenwideawake I feel relieved tbh. From previous years I know the first week is ok for me- I start to struggle in week two and especially at the weekends.

I'm in. My drinking has got ridiculous the last few months, so I need a proper reset. I don't do AF or alternative drinks, I am very happy with tea. I do however need to not go out - if I'm in and don't have wine in the house, I'm fine. But if I go out for dinner, game over. Hopefully I'll save a lot of money in the process!

Hohofortherobbers · 01/01/2026 12:22

Im in, always do DJ and love a support thread to check into.

poorremus · 01/01/2026 12:39

I'm in. Thank you for starting the thread.

Nannyogganny · 01/01/2026 12:42

I will join. I feel like im getting addicted to white wine

grinchmcgrinchface · 01/01/2026 12:42

I’ll join you, however I’m doing a completely dry 2026. Smile Fed up of feeling rubbish!

TammyOne · 01/01/2026 12:45

Im in! Really looking forward to it. I’ve been drinking way too much in the last year and need a good long break. Im aiming for at least 3 months.

HaroldMeaker · 01/01/2026 13:01

Yes! I’ll join, I would also like to do the whole year tbh

Crocodocodile · 01/01/2026 13:15

Yep, im in. Fingers crossed i can actually manage this year. Shamefully I've never completed the whole month and cave during week 2 or 3.

LydiaBennetsBonnet · 01/01/2026 13:57

Can I join please? Looking forward to it!

BigButtons · 01/01/2026 14:01

Lovely to have so many join in. I was wondering whether I would be posting daily updates to myself.
Strangely I went of wine a couple of weeks ago- it tasted like vinegar and I love wine . So I was drinking gin instead.
so here I am am on new years days feeling hungover and have for next to nothing done.
i remember last year just having so much more energy even after just a few days.
sleep will be horrible initially though.
i have no idea if I can push this past January though.

I will join in. I did DJ last year and felt much better for it. I had 3 large baileys last but haven't drunk huge amounts over Christmas. I just feel horrible, lethargic and bloated when i do drink more than occasionally now. I alos get horrible hangovers at 45 plus have a stone to loose. Day 1 for me and I have no hangover. We have had the kids at the inflatable park this morning already as dh didn't really drink much last night either.

Londog · 01/01/2026 14:30

On antibiotics, so I’m three days in sobriety from a bottle a night wine habit . I’ve done a few months AF before but slipped back. Hit the rocks again recently, as wine seems to turn me into a crazy, unhinged freak with the family ; they hate me drinking and my body hates it too - tummy upset , palpitations, lethargy and bad anxiety.
Let’s support each other - thank you for staying the timely thread BigButtons❤️ xx

Londog · 01/01/2026 14:31

*starting

BigButtons · 01/01/2026 14:35

How are you feeling @Londog ?
I hate the anxiety the most and the wasted hours at the weekend.
I drink to numb and because I get bored. I am going to the pub tomorrow for a friend’s birthday. I am actually looking forward to not drinking. I find most af lagers drinkable

That should read 2 large baileys last night not 3.

thisoldcity · 01/01/2026 14:38

I'm in! Glad to find the thread. I don't drink a lot but I'd like to have a bit of a reset where I don't drink at all. I've done it before and I know the secret for me is having something else to drink instead, such as an interesting flavour tonic water for distraction. If I could I'd quite like to carry on past the end of January, but one month at a time for now.

Ladymuckypuddle · 01/01/2026 14:49

Came on here looking for a DJ thread thanks for starting @BigButtons

I usually drink alcohol two or three times a week looking forward to DJ and a complete reset.

Londog · 01/01/2026 14:50

I hear that the Fevertree tonic water with elderflower is very nice 👌🏼
I feel ok Buttons, as due to the medication I’m on, it’s been forced upon me- I would never have got round to it otherwise.
I always become too busy and drained in a day and then use wine to relax myself .. that first sip changes everything blissfully ( perceived ) , but then I can’t stop and I become a vile, argumentative version of myself xx
Good luck everyone ! Solidarity 🤛

RosieLeaLovesTea · 01/01/2026 14:50

Hi all. I am definitely joining in! My normal alcohol consumption is 1 bottle of wine ove a week -2 glasses Friday night and 2 glasses Saturday. Sometimes an extra cider. But over Xmas me and DH have shared 2 bottles of wine a day. so need to stop. And have a cleanse.

Thehorticuluralhussie · 01/01/2026 14:55

I'm in too, same as last year, my ability to sleep will fall off a cliff for at least a week but at least I know that in advance. I don't bother with AF either.
Wishing you all luck 🙂

Buntyforgirls · 01/01/2026 15:04

I'm doing dry January too, thank you for starting the thread @BigButtons . It's become a bit of a habit recently, so predicting a bit of discipline and support will be needed! Good luck everyone!

Nanny31 · 01/01/2026 15:43

Hi all.

I'm in!

Have downloaded the app too.

Let's see how this goes.... Something has to be done!

Hi @Eyesopenwideawake I feel relieved tbh. From previous years I know the first week is ok for me- I start to struggle in week two and especially at the weekends.

That's interesting. Is it because you've got used to the health benefits and no longer think about them or is it more social pressure to drink that's the problem?

As an aside I was on LBC this morning, talking about giving up drinking (and stopping smoking 18m ago after 50 years!) so my 'pledge' is on public record 😂
