Any penguins about? Dry January 2023

Hello there

I can’t see a specific thread for upcoming Dry January so I thought I’d start one! Penguins is a reference from previous DJ threads to us supporting each other and pulling anyone teetering on the edge of the iceberg, ie a glass of wine etc, into the huddle.

I’ve done several dry Januarys over the years and had fantastic support. Anyone fancy joining?

I’m 50s, 3 teens and working 4 days a week. Rather too reliant on a glass of wine of an evening to unwind/ reward/ drown sorrows. Would love to chat to others looking to cut out for January.

Hi all day 3 some here also. Day 4 today and work! Short week at least. We went ten pin bowling last night, Nando’s and crazy golf. Good to keep busy! Have an afternoon tea booked on Saturday which am looking forward to! Crap sleep last night again but hopeful it will get better! Hope all are doing well and feeling 💪!

Good luck for the upcoming weekend everyone!

My danger zone is hunger because I associate hunger with having a glass of wine whilst cooking dinner which is my happy place! Roll on end of Jan so I can return to it! 🤣

Ugh weekends are the hardest having dinner with family tonight and everyone has either a glass of wine or a beer. 😩

How is everyone doing? Day 6 here. Ordered myself some new pyjamas and a new book for tonight as I know the first friday will be tough! Nearly finished the first week well done to all.

Batterseabunny · 06/01/2023 20:46

I’ve also got new pyjamas @SummerScoop !

Day 6 here also. Read one book and now onto the second - a book written by a friend of mine actually (her second one in print!). Drank 2 bottles of alcohol free wine but now my digestive system is gurgling! Don’t think it likes the sugar. Off for an afternoon tea tomorrow at a v posh hotel (with vouchers we got for our birthday- no Prosecco with it however!). Off to read - well done everyone! Nearly a quarter of the way there!

How's everyone doing?!
Day 9 and I'm proud I've come this far! Weekend was tough as we had a family meal and I would have loved to have a nice cold glass of wine with our meal but I stuck to lemonade and lime 😂 everyone else drank and i wasn't jealous at all 😉. But I kept reminding myself if I give in now what would be the point in the last 9 days!
Hope everyone else if staying strong 💪🏼

Day 10 now and still going strong (she says). Bought AF fizz that was recommended on internet at £5 bottle which I have when the urge takes me. That said bought wine on good pair days but proud to say it’s still sitting there untouched. There was once a time when it would not have lasted ….got a nice meal
coming tomorrow, spa on Monday… equipping myself with little treats to get me through January as it’s always dark and rainy. Over 30%!

We all sound quite gloomy today - I know I am.

My parents were wine o' clockers and (in the case of my dad) stress drinker due to work pressures. Neither were alcoholics (though my Dad skirted close to the wind at times), but both dialled it back considerably in later years (my Dad is my Dry January buddy in real life).
I suppose I - like many people - am following suit. It's all quite depressing, but I won't crack.
