New Year Challenge - 100 days alcohol free. Anyone want to join?!

Hello,

I know very well that my drinking has crept up to unhealthy levels in recent months again due to a difficult relationship period. I feel how low alcohol is making me, and it adds nothing to my life. I'm 44 and I really want to stop.

Would anyone like to join me in a 100 day challenge from 1 Jan? I managed 80 days last year and felt amazing, but since then my drinking has increased to really unhealthy levels and I feel really rubbish again.

Let me know if you might be keep to join for support!

Thanks.

Good morning. I wish you well with this challenge as I did a 100 day AF challenge on 2 April 2019 and have never drunk since, which wasn't my initial intention.

earlyraisin · 28/12/2022 09:42

Well done for 80 days! I'm up for this as worry about drinking constantly. I did 40 consecutive days last year and monitored on the Dry Jan app over the year. I didn't do great due to relationship angst, so hoping posting here will keep me accountable and help me achieve 100 days! Thanks for starting this thread. Happy New Year!

tonystarksrighthand · 28/12/2022 09:56

Yes! I am in. I have also done 80 days this year and felt amazing.

I'm ready for this and I've prepped, with journals, podcasts and literature.

ThorFull · 28/12/2022 09:58

I’m in. I’m already 126 days AF and I’m thinking of trying for a year.
So another 100 day chunk sounds like a perfect challenge.

S2P78 · 28/12/2022 12:00

That's great you want to join @ThorFull @tonystarksrighthand @earlyraisin and thank you for the good wishes @Florence39

I'm excited about this as I'm so exhausted and feel a bit depressed from booze. I def need encouragement and tips to stay the course though and remember how much easier it got after a few months.

@tonystarksrighthand what podcasts would you recommend please? Any prep advice welcome :)

Can I join in I did the challenge before and put in £1 in a tin every day and DH matched it and got a lovely new coat 😜

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 28/12/2022 12:04

Good morning I did from 27/12 to July this year and I've not had a drink since 9/12. I fully intend to continue this way

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 28/12/2022 12:09

@madmumofteens that's a really good idea

earlyraisin · 29/12/2022 10:06

I got an early score, I drove to a party last night so no alcohol. Feel a bit brighter today ✨️ I need to think of more strategies for Jan.

S2P78 · 29/12/2022 12:42

@earlyraisin well done! I think driving is a great way to make sure you don't drink - also saves on expensive taxies
@tonystarksrighthand thanks for podcasts!
@madmumofteens that's a great idea!
I'm still drinking (although not in last two days which is great for me given I was on a bottle of wine or more a day...I know) until 1st but am reading a lot in preparation for a big sober stint - also downloaded the alcochol experiment podcast for the free 30 day course and the I am sober app to count days. Feeling strong and ready now!

Currently on day 189 and feels amazing!!!!

Fififafa · 29/12/2022 12:51

Can I join too? For the last month or so, I started to not really enjoy drinking anymore and hate feeling lethargic etc the day(s) after, so have been unintentionally cutting down due to lack of interest in it.

S2P78 · 29/12/2022 13:06

@Fififafa of course! More the merrier (in a non-alcoholic supportive kind of way)
@crystalarter13 that's motivating to hear...thanks. Feels scary at the moment. A friend who I'm visiting in Cape Town in Feb just messaged to say we can drink lots in the vineyards which sound amazing. But I've told her that I won't be drinking and she's v supportive. It'll be hard though!!

It's a good idea to tell people in advance, we can do this, it's only 100. (Hoping for more). Who's got the Dry Jan App? Interested if there are other useful apps to use.

SnowyKitty · 30/12/2022 09:22

Morning. I’d like to join too and start today. I’m drinking too much and it’s not good for me or my relationships.

S2P78 · 30/12/2022 09:40

@earlyraisin the I am sober app is great for counting days....I used it last time and def helped. I don't like the Dry Jan so much. I also like the Alcohol Experiment app in general for the free course it offers and resources.
@SnowyKitty welcome! And I hear you...
Need to really strengthen resolve as a friend said yesterday 'it won't last' when I said I wanted to stop drinking. So it's really important to have those who'll cheer you on around you and encourage you! I find it toughest with friends who drink a fair bit and don't want me to stop drinking...

How did you get on over Xmas. I am day 3 and refuse to drink for New Year but going to get some hassle from family and friends about it.

RuLu · 30/12/2022 11:34

Can I join please? I'm going to do dry January & then hopefully continue!

MichaelFabricantWig · 30/12/2022 11:38

Good luck everyone. I’ll be 500 days sober next week, I didn’t think I could do 2 days at the start. The longest I’d ever managed DJ for was 4 days. Connection with others is key

Rayn22 · 30/12/2022 22:04

Well I did it! Only day 4 but I have survived a night in with family and friends only on soft drinks. 😁

earlyraisin · 30/12/2022 23:29

Brilliant @Rayn22 I am interested if you had to justify your not drinking alcohol to anyone? I went for a curry and pub with my usual drinking buddies tonight and stuck to soft drinks without too much explaining.

Can you tell me @S2P78 if you pay for the I am sober app? I downloaded but don't want to pay. Thanks for the suggestions tho.

I just said I had a migraine tonight so no questions asked! Let's see what tomorrow night is like!

SnowyKitty · 01/01/2023 09:13

Happy new year!

Two days without a drink including a lunch out with my husband (I had a Virgin mojito which was v nice) and NYE - we went to family and then came home. I didn’t stay up until midnight. There was part of me that thought well maybe I should have a drink for NYE but I didn’t.

I think it might get harder after a few days but we’ll see!

I don’t really feel any different though. Not healthier or anything.

earlyraisin · 01/01/2023 09:24

Happy New Year and Good Luck everyone!

I stayed sober last night as I could've been called to pick up DS from a party. I went to the pub and had a non alcoholic G&T but my head is pounding this morning 🤨 feels a tad unfair!
