Thinking of trying to have a Dry November

I am absolutely sick of over doing it when it comes to drinking.
No hangover today and was up bright eyed and bushy tailed with my beautiful DS, but I've been doing it a bit self reflection last night/this morning and think/know I do drink too much and to excess!
So I'm giving it a go, anyone want to join me on my dry November?

The other thing with rules around alcohol, is it all feels rather miserable.
Not allowed to drink at home. Or not 2 consecutive days. Or not wine. Or no more then 3 alcoholic drinks... the list goes on.

I don't know. For me the easier option right now is to take the option away. No alcohol. And then I don't spend the week playing the 'will I or won't I' game, only to inevitably drink the minute the kids are in bed and then feel rubbish for the entire weekend.

@Shhhhh223 I'm the same as you. I don't want to stop completely but I don't want to be in the habit of having a bottle of wine every night neither.
Saying that I'm not missing it at all at the moment, I'm enjoying the benefits and the clear head. I definitely need a reset

cantthinkofabetterusername · 08/11/2022 20:04

How's everyone getting on?

NoTimeForWine · 09/11/2022 09:50

@cantthinkofabetterusername all good here. This thread is quiet, I'm not sure if that means everyone is sailing through or if they have quit quitting!
@toottootmummy how are you?

I have a night out tomorrow which will be a struggle but I'm keeping up the podcasts and that definitely helps.

katmarie · 09/11/2022 16:12

No drinking here, still fighting off covid, so not feeling great, but equally it means I don't fancy drinking so that helps.

cantthinkofabetterusername · 09/11/2022 16:15

@katmarie hope you feel better soon
@NoTimeForWine yeah I thought the thread was quiet. I'm doing ok, still plodding on, not missing drinking at the moment although that could change

Evening all

I've tried many times to moderate, but the rule/fail/shame cycle was pretty exhausting. It felt like being on a diet as opposed to a life style choice.

This time I've stopped completely and have almost tried to forget about it (this has been helped by working 3 evenings a week.) I'm still eating loads of ice cream and chocolate buttons but that's okay for now and often a sign that I'm overly tired.

Big night out tomorrow with a gang of old friends. Pre-drinks have already been suggested (which I can't make due to childcare commitments) but fortunately the restaurant has a good mocktails list, so I won't feel completely left out.

Six weeks tomorrow (I think?) and feeling motivated to keep going!

lightisnotwhite · 09/11/2022 23:38

Quietly plodding here too. Not missing it too much but don’t have anything on work wise so the usual triggers aren’t around.
Going to the pub tomorrow with friends which will be the test. They are coming to my local which I can walk to when normally I’d drive. I feel a bit rude making them drive over and not drink. I could have gone to theirs. Maybe I’ll have a couple of drinks and see if I can not get hammered. It’s a tricky decision though. I’ll be back off the booze after though.

I am struggling today! Keen for a glass of wine but trying to abstain. Everyone annoying me as well so not sure I'll manage to avoid it this wknd. I've been for a swim, made myself a nice tapas plate but I really want a glass of Pinot. Don't actually have any so I can't & deliberately didn't buy any so I wasn't tempted.

cantthinkofabetterusername · 10/11/2022 21:14

@RuLu I deliberately don't buy it too, if it was in the house I'd probably be tempted.
Are you trying to give up completely or just cut down?

RuLu · 10/11/2022 21:50

Not sure yet! I'm trying for November off & then will decide!! Not sure I can give up all together but am enjoying the weight loss!

I feel like I've lost a bit of weight but haven't weighed myself in ages so I wouldn't know. I'm not giving up completely, I'm having a reset. Drinking a bottle of wine mort nights definitely wasn't any good for me so needed to rein it in, I'm planning on staying off it until the end of the month and see how I feel after that

RuLu · 10/11/2022 22:24

I was at that point a few months back. Managed to cut that down to a bottle on Thurs, Fri & sat eve! Still not great so def understand needing a reset!! We can do this!!!

Shhhhh223 · 11/11/2022 07:34

im still going! And tbh I’m not wanting one either which has really amazed me. I’m a little disappointed that I’ve not lost any weight yet… my body is probably in shock lol. I feel so much better getting out of that habit I was in.

lightisnotwhite · 11/11/2022 07:42

Ok so went out and didn’t really want a drink. Friends weren’t drinking either. I had a half pint more because I just wanted something other than water but went back to soda snd lime afterwards .
Even though it means I’ve not stayed dry, I think I would say I was sober so happy with that.

katmarie · 11/11/2022 09:28

I think my aim longer term is to cut down, and stop drinking during the week. I get up at 5.45 with the kids and the mornings would be a lot easier if I was in bed sober at a sensible time in the evening. It's tricky with christmas coming, but I think in december I'm going to limit it to weekends and specific christmas celebration evenings. And then do dry january again as a start off to the new year.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 15/11/2022 14:44

Half way mark folks! Hope everyone is doing ok?
