Thinking of trying to have a Dry November

toottootmummy · 30/10/2022 09:17

I am absolutely sick of over doing it when it comes to drinking.
No hangover today and was up bright eyed and bushy tailed with my beautiful DS, but I've been doing it a bit self reflection last night/this morning and think/know I do drink too much and to excess!
So I'm giving it a go, anyone want to join me on my dry November?

Yes, I'm doing this. Or trying to! Waking up again feeling rubbish and realise I feel like this a lot, groggy and low energy.I need a reset before Christmas to see if the couple of glasses I have a few times a week is having an impact. Perhaps if I do feel better, that'll spur me on to think more carefully about whether I really want a drink whenever one is on offer through December! If I actually get drunk I now feel like hell for two days so perhaps even low level drinking is beginning to take its toll.

AuntieMarys · 30/10/2022 12:01

We are doing no drinking at home. We are out 5 times in November for dinner so 25 days alcohol free is doable

cantthinkofabetterusername · 30/10/2022 12:01

I'll do it too!
I'm not hungover today but I did have a drink last night and this morning I thought to myself I'm done with it for now. A reset will be really good for me, a few glasses of wine a few nights a week is far too much for me

I'm in! I need to change! I need to find the strength to change. It's ruining my life

I'm in! I've been really good recently but decided that a full month off is a good thing and a nice challenge.

cantthinkofabetterusername · 30/10/2022 21:34

Day 1 done for me, I went out this evening to bingo with my daughter. Usually I'd have a drink while there but tonight I decided to drive and stuck to soft drinks

Piggy111 · 30/10/2022 21:37

I’m planning on only drinking socially. I actually have quite a lot on in the run up to Xmas and I really need to not also drink on the nights where I’m just at home. It’s just habit (and pleasure!) but I want to have a break from it until Xmas. Good luck everyone!

I'm exactly the same. It's the drinking at home I need to knock on the head mainly but I think I need a reset before Christmas. Woke up this morning feeling good for not drinking last night

Mindymomo · 31/10/2022 06:32

We’ve cut back a lot this year. Firstly DH was diagnosed as pre diabetic so cut down about half of what we were drinking, then recently his blood tests revealed his liver function is slightly of concern. So now we only drink once a week and if we go out for a meal, maybe once a month. Days spent having lunches out with drink in retirement looks out of the window now.

JamMakingWannaBe · 31/10/2022 21:03

I've just done SoberOctober and happy to continue that into November.

That's great well done! Did you find it difficult?
Day 2 done for me, tucked up in bed ready for an early night

confusedlots · 01/11/2022 07:36

I really need to do this, but I'm worried I won't be able to, and that worries me even more. Going to take it one day at a time.

Shhhhh223 · 01/11/2022 15:15

I started last Friday so am on day five. Ive always loved a glass of wine but since lockdown I’ve been drinking almost every night anywhere from two glasses to a bottle . I work from home so it’s become too easy to open a bottle in the afternoon. Not only have I put on a stone in weight but it’s so expensive to be doing this! When I’m out I’m going to try wine spritzers

I thought I would! Like most people my drinking has increased (massively) over time and I just needed to reset. I just didn't buy any wine/cider and asked DH not to buy any for me. If it's not available, I can't drink it!
I surprised myself how well I did and want to carry on - for my health, the cost etc

Stircrazyschoolmum · 01/11/2022 20:49

I’m in!

Just finished my first successful sober October in about 6 years (last drink 29 Sept) and found it less traumatic than I expected!

Loving the sleep benefits and hoping the skin/weight benefits will arrive this month if I can get a handle on my sugar intake!

I found having a non judgemental place to check in and off load was really helpful so it’s nice to be here.

cantthinkofabetterusername · 01/11/2022 21:22

I've completed day 3, I'm already noticing an improvement in my sleep. I'm sleeping the full night and not waking up with a dry mouth or needing painkillers.
I was drinking a bottle of wine most nights, definitely too much so a reset is well needed.
@Stircrazyschoolmum I too find it helpful having somewhere to talk about it and offload, will be nice to keep the thread going and support each other along the way

Hashtagihearya · 02/11/2022 06:49

Hi all these threads are great thank you! @Stircrazyschoolmum im the previous soberoct but clearly that didn't work so I'm going to try again! I am aiming for at least 15 to 20 AF days so I really want to do this! I want to be bright eyed and bushy tailed and proactive and not damage my liver and the rest of it!!! Have a great day everyone!

Hashtagihearya · 02/11/2022 06:52

@cantthinkofabetterusername I am feeling like you and you are doing great as pp said one day at a time is really all we can do and no beating yourself up etc if you slip but I really want to do this too!

I keep seeing ads for something called Wednesday domaine if anyone has had that AF wine please let me know as I'll order it! App it's a different process to how they remove the wine. My issue also is my DH has ship loads of wine delivered all of the bloody time if it is not in the house I wouldn't be so inclined to open a bottle....

Shhhhh223 · 02/11/2022 10:57

There is a really good podcast called “ I quit wine” it’s got some good tips and explanations for why we drink.

cantthinkofabetterusername · 02/11/2022 21:44

Hope everyone's doing ok? I've managed to complete day 4. I haven't been as tempted as I thought I'd be. The main benefit for me at the moment is sleep, I'm getting early nights and sleeping through.
@Hashtagihearya I've not heard of that, I'm on the lookout for some decent AF drinks, I've heard AF isn't that nice? I might get some at the weekend and give it a try

I was exactly the same at the beginning of October. I needed a reset and I was concerned I couldn't - but I did, and so can you. One day at a time.

NoTimeForWine · 03/11/2022 10:13

Can I join please? I meant to do sober October, just like I meant to stop dinking at home but unfortunately neither materialised. I'm now in a good place to have a go at a decent dry spell and today will be day 5.

I struggle with Friday and Saturday nights, chilling out at home with a bottle of wine. Whist I can stop once the bottle is finished, I quite often fancy more. I also feel rotten the next morning. I find myself spending the week looking forward to that first glass on a Friday night and then Saturday and Sunday become a bit of a hungover fog. It's actually quite a destructive pattern when you start to look at it.

Was very happy to stumble across this thread as I enjoy cheering everyone on and hearing tips on how to survive the weekend dry. I'm definitely up for a whole month but possibly longer, depending on how my willpower holds.

Best of luck everyone!
