I am currently on day one of trying not to drink, I have been over the top this school holidays, jumped on the Gin bandwagon, hot all sorts of different types, always had a different one to try.
Drank too much a few times, most recently this wknd, and have been hurtful and dam right obnoxious to a very much loved friend. We haven't talked it through yet and we are sending polite what's apps, she has agreed that it was the demon drink and I have apologised profusely.
I just hate that 'beer fear' and hate myself for not knowing my limits.
I've put all the gin away, I've bought various 'soft' drink options and I'm hoping to find support here.
Thanks for reading..

@AlwaysSunshine81 have you thought about trying AA give them a ring and go to a local meeting. Worked for me. 2&1/2 years sober now.

alwaystryingneverwinning · 06/05/2019 20:06

245 days and still going sober ❤️ we had a sudden death in the family too, and my partner is struggling with grief and depression. There's been many a time I've thought that a wine/gin may help sleep/mindset or just calm me down after a particularly trying day but I haven't succumbed 👍
I now feel I will just be a non-drinker I can't imagine putting any alcohol into my body after feeling so much better without it.
Hope everyone is ok?

Can I join please? - Day One for me

choirgirlsings · 28/05/2019 11:25

Hi @JapanFan well done for deciding to go sober. I'm 1000 days tomorrow. I go to regular AA meetings, I wouldn't be sober if it wasn't for them. If you're struggling or want to chat drop me a message.

Wow there are some impressive numbers on this thread. Well done to all. Even 1 or 2 days will help your overall health and hopefully lead onto better a better lifestyle.

I think most of us are living in very stressful times; we work hard and have very high expectations from life that an earlier generation didn't have. Alcohol is a lazy and extremly short-lived way to find relief and I am a firm believer that the things that don't come easy in life are usually the most rewarding. So you should all be proud of yourselves!

whatareyoueatingNOW · 28/05/2019 21:20

Hi all- I haven't updated in months, but I carried on moderating and drink a glass of wine about twice a month. From the point I gave up last September to now, Ive been drunk once (Christmas I tried to drink more than two glasses- tolerance is gone) and id never go back to drinking heavily or even regularly again. I'm a gym member and an avid reader - before last September those were things only 16- 18 year old me could say.

Honestly anyone trying to get through the early days- keep going. It is so worthwhile.

The normalisation and acceptance of unhealthy relationships with alcohol that society push is so damaging for people. And when your part of it, you just don't notice how much it's impacting. I didn't anyway. I said months ago and it's still true now- I missed out on a lot of life and a lot of my children's childhood by having "just" two glasses a night. Every night - it has a long term effect that your too entrenched to see.

Good luck all

JapanFan · 29/05/2019 10:59

Day 1 done yesterday!
I never want to feel that ill again!
My plan is to take each day as it comes but really want to stop altogether.
It’s the anxiety the next day which is a killer for me. Hopefully this thread will help

alwaystryingneverwinning · 13/07/2019 15:36

A realisation that I was probably a Hugh functioning alcoholic who turned to alcohol for almost everything and very nearly lost a best friend due to a drunken evening.
Can't even imagine starting again tbh.
Sobriety Rocks x

bunhead34 · 30/09/2019 15:17

Waw I just stared reading this thread and then realised it's over a year old - some of you have done so well!

I would love to join, I don't drink that often but tend to go overboard when I do. I have major anxiety and always felt like I needed alcohol to be normal.
No more, I can't deal with the hangovers and feeling like actual crap.
I was at a wedding this weekend, so this is day 2 for me!

furbabiesandgirlbabies · 01/10/2019 16:42

Always happy to help if u need somewhere to chat! I think I'm on day 393 now! Wool, another 10 mile race under my belt at the wknd 🏃‍♀️

furbabiesandgirlbabies · 27/10/2019 14:09

bunhead34 · 29/10/2019 13:31

Well done on your running, I need to get my trainers dusted off!

furbabiesandgirlbabies · 29/10/2019 14:19

That's awesome! How are u feeing about it? X

furbabiesandgirlbabies · 12/06/2020 13:11

Day 648...
I haven't succumbed during lockdown although, at some points it's been testing, especially with the sun out and the image of a cold alcoholic beverage in the sun being tempting!
Anyone else still dry from this thread?
I'd

furbabiesandgirlbabies · 19/09/2020 22:04

2 years and counting 👍

Gordonsgrin · 20/09/2020 13:42

I am struggling so much. I don’t want a drink for the sake of a drink. Today I Simple want to be obliterated for a break from the reality of my life.
I haven’t had a drink for 26 days.
