When we adopted DS (17 years ago), the SW said to us that ‘no adopted child will ever be a rocket scientist and don’t plan on him going to university, because adopted kids will struggle at school’ Well he did struggle at school (but no more that lots of kids), and he’s just been offered a place at university. I’m so bloody proud of him. What. A. Star.

And fuck you SW.

Just wanted to share that.

Great news - what is he going to study?

Remy7 · 12/02/2022 16:57

This is brilliant to read. You've clearly all shown that SW!! Grin
Good luck to DS for uni Smile

ineedsun · 12/02/2022 16:59

Esports (I didn’t even know it was a thing!)

TheBareTree · 12/02/2022 16:59

Brilliant news! Well done to him and you!

brightgreenapple · 12/02/2022 17:01

Brilliant news - what a credit to you

ApolloandDaphne · 12/02/2022 17:09

That is fantastic. I am a retired SW and I would never have said that to anyone who adopted! Children can absolutely fulfil their potential after being adopted.

Ted27 · 12/02/2022 17:17

Esports will be included in the Commonwealth Games this year - the future is here !

ineedsun · 12/02/2022 17:40

Thanks all - I heard him cheering to himself in his room yesterday 🥰

DearZooAgain · 12/02/2022 17:42

Lovely! Many congratulations and well done to you as well!

gabsdot45 · 12/02/2022 18:02

Fantastic. Well done to your son and I hope he has a great experience at University

turbulenthearts · 12/02/2022 18:27

Well done. Lots of adopted children end up at university. I know of one child who grew up in foster care and ended up a solicitor. The SW advice was shockingly badly informed. I am shocked! But well done to your dc, how exciting!

strawberrymilkshake123 · 12/02/2022 18:59

Very well done to your son :)

One of my best friends at University was adopted, and did very well there, so hope that's further reassurance to your son the SW was talking rubbish.

As an aside, can I ask what Esports are ?

Torvy · 12/02/2022 19:33

Congratulations! What wonderful news!

Lwren · 12/02/2022 20:05

Amazing news! Congratulations! 🥰

AKingdomForAUsername · 12/02/2022 20:19

Congrats to your son - and to you! Now off to google Esports. 😅

ineedsun · 12/02/2022 22:38

I don’t pretend to understand it but it’s these big organised competitions for gaming, so the course is business, sports psychology, broadcasting, entrepreneurship, event management etc. There’s no actual gaming involved (or so they tell me) 🤷‍♀️

That’s lovely news; and very comforting for those who follow not too far behind you in your footsteps.

A big well done to your son and please enjoy your sense of pride for as long as you possibly can!

Jellycatspyjamas · 13/02/2022 07:31

That’s fantastic news - what a short sighted social worker, of course adopted children can fulfil their potential academically. Many congratulations 🥳

ifchocolatewerrcelery · 13/02/2022 08:08

I have a name for your SW. Dara Ó Briain.

Huge congratulations to your son. Gaming is massively big business so there's lots of opportunities out there in it.

EnergyCreatesReality · 13/02/2022 13:17

Fantastic news Smile

MRSAHILL · 13/02/2022 13:50

I adopted my ds aged 4, 18 years ago, so a similar time as you. My Social Worker was also quite negative about him and his possible future achievements, due to his age and life experiences so far. However, he is currently studying Computer Science at University, whilst holding down two part time jobs and I'm extremely proud of him. I really hope Social Workers aren't still spouting this rubbish to adopters as I read so many negative things about adoption and I'd hate it to put people off. Good to hear about your ds and I wish him well for the future.

Mo1911 · 13/02/2022 14:25

I've never heard such a load of hogwash in my life!!! I'm an adoption counsellor for people looking for birth parents/offspring and what your stupid SW said is absolutely piffle!!

Huge congratulations to your son, I hope he has a ball and well done to you too!

UnderTheNameOfSanders · 13/02/2022 16:44

Fab news.

juneybean · 13/02/2022 17:45

Congratulations! Lovely news!

Pineapples9087 · 14/02/2022 00:25

Fantastic. Congratulations to your DS.

Also me and my twin sister were adopted. We both went to university and have professional jobs now. That sw is so wrong.
