Both fantastic though

Loved Les and Dame Edna

Flatandhappy · 22/04/2023 11:53

Just popped on my feed a little while ago, very sad.

Chowtime · 22/04/2023 11:55

A very sad loss 😥

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/04/2023 12:05

A very funny man. I never felt he was taking the mickey out of women as Dame Edna unlike some.

LakeTiticaca · 22/04/2023 12:06

Rest in peace Barrie/Dame Edna xxx

LlynTegid · 22/04/2023 12:07

May he rest in peace and thoughts for his family and friends as they mourn.

corlan · 22/04/2023 12:08

Rest in Peace Barry.
I'm remembering the pure filth he used to get on TV as Dame Edna with a massive smile!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 22/04/2023 12:19

Ah ... he was a brilliant man! I went to see one of his shows in somewhere like the Palladium in the early 1980s and it remains to this day the funniest show I've ever seen.

He was an alcoholic who kicked the habit and stayed sober for 50 years ... a life well lived. Rest in peace Barry.

Sadly Barry Cryer is also dead (a year or more ago).

My favourite clip of BH was from This Morning with Dermot and Alison. He congratulated dermot on his courage on 'coming out'

MissyB1 · 22/04/2023 13:05

Very talented and funny man. I didn’t feel that his dressing as a woman was insulting in the way some modern drag artists today are. Barrie came across as a gentleman. And Dame Edna was simply a comical character.
RIP Barrie.

I'd missed that but god, that's so funny Grin

Lily Savage and Dame Edna - there'll be one hell of a party somewhere

tobee · 22/04/2023 13:11

I'm very sad here.

Over 40 years ago, as a teenager, bored in the Easter holidays, I had fun phoning in to a Dame Edna answers your problems on local radio. My sister and I concocted a story about not having a boyfriend and Dame Edna was absolutely lovely to me, funny and kind.

They'll never be another.

Gonksmum · 22/04/2023 13:11

I too loved Dame Edna's chat show - 80s? I also loved Madge the Bridesmaid.

Blondey2023 · 22/04/2023 13:17

Very sad. He was brilliant as Dame Edna, never creepy or smutty just good fun.

And a real talent for voice over work too. Bruce in Finding Nemo was great.
RIP

Goodbye Barry Humphries
AutumnCrow · 22/04/2023 13:23

Good bye, Sir Les. Never a neck tie knowingly left unstained.

MidgeHardcastle · 22/04/2023 13:32

RIP Barry 😢 Have been to all his live UK shows since Housewife Superstar in the 70s including his retrospective last year. Funniest man ever and never laughed so much, will be sadly missed.

Gingernaut · 22/04/2023 13:34

Dame Edna and Sir Les Patterson were comedy heroes during my childhood

Barry Humphries was a genius and he'll be missed

lidlbrownjug · 22/04/2023 13:34

Wonderfully funny man. Will be missed.

MidgeHardcastle · 22/04/2023 13:37

Also have the dubious honour of being hit by Les Patterson's spit mixed with chewed up Maltesers he'd stolen from a neighbour in the front row. 🤮

FasterthanBolt · 22/04/2023 13:38

I was reading some get well messages to him from celebrities on The Poke this week and he seems to be one of those rare people that was universally liked and admired (a bit like Paul O'Grady).
