Oh that is a shame!

HRTQueen · 22/04/2023 13:42

Barry Humphries was a comedy genius

a way overused term but he truly was

I went to see Dame Edna/Sir Les Patterson years ago it was absolutely hilarious

My Gorgeous Life (I had it on cassette) and Handling Edna on Audible are both brilliant

ThreeRingCircus · 22/04/2023 13:45

I was so sad to hear this. He was a huge talent, just a very funny man ... and very quick witted. Rest in Peace.

BringMeTea · 22/04/2023 13:46

An extremely talented man. May Barry RIP.

LlynTegid · 22/04/2023 14:28

His talent extended well beyond Dame Edna and I hope this is remembered in all the tributes.

KimberleyClark · 22/04/2023 14:39

RIP Barry. Saw him live. He was a genius.

Tessisme · 22/04/2023 18:22

Very sad to hear this. He was absolutely brilliant. I used to watch Dame Edna's Neighbourhood Watch with the tears streaming down my face.

bellac11 · 22/04/2023 19:06

Am I remembering rightly that on that neighbourhood watch programme, someone pulled out a drawer in someones house and there was a potty full of poo??

It was hilarious, possibly staged but hilarious nonetheless

MsRosley · 22/04/2023 19:15

I'm very sad. I adored everything he did.

Enfys1982 · 22/04/2023 19:19

My favourite is Dame Edna entering the royal box and sitting next to Charles and Camilla at the Royal Variety Show. Hilarious!

Celebrity deaths rarely make me sad, I think the last one was Terry Wogan. I’m genuinely sad about Barry Humphries, he was a huge talent and so very funny.

Yes I was sad about Terry Wogan too.

Abhannmor · 23/04/2023 10:32

Does anyone remember Barry Mackenzie? A cartoon strip he did in Private Eye. Later a 'fillum' about a naive Aussie lad and his adventures in Kangaroo Valley.
Pommy bastards and Sheilas are always taking advantage of poor Baz! His aunty was Edna of course.
Humphries was great friends with another genius , Peter Cook.

LexMitior · 23/04/2023 10:45

I remember Barry McKenzie and Peter Cook.

Sad about Barry Humphries- a Dadaist comedian. We won't get another one.

He was so very funny and very very clever. I used to enjoy those intense eyes behind Edna's glasses. A bit like a cat with a mouse a lot of the time!
