If you had organised a surprise birthday party months in advance and someone who hadn't responded to any emails gives you 8 hours notice, saying they are coming, travelling from 250 miles away. Private room in restaurant is booked for a certain no. of people and you are already 2 over that number.
WWYD, how would you feel?
The birthday girl likes this person.

sorry your evening was ruined

thank you
I did have a nice apart from this.
This is just the tip of the iceberg really. part of a much bigger picture of unreasonableness!

I would be massively pissed off with the person who replied at such late notice and then got on a train without confirmation that it was okay to add 2 people at that stage. It is very upsetting when you've put a lot of effort into making someting nice and someone unthinkingly comes along,s tresses you out, nearly ruins it, and that rude disorganised person ends up having a good time while you are rushing round trying to fix things and not having a good time.

point taken Trillian. I think a lot of people would be very annoyed.
To be fair, person on train didn't know anything about strict numbers, and it was just him.
I just think it's a major overreaction and after seeing the room and the restaurant I would have been perfectly happy to have the tables split up

If he didn't receive the original email, then your dh's arrangements were not meticulous.

Your dh should not have been so upset, and i really don't understand why he wasn't talking to you?

Sorry that this upset your evening.
