Can someone explain to me why Robert Kilroy Silk appears to be universally disliked?

I don't get it. I am not one for daytime tv, but I used to enjoy his morning chat show on the occasions I watched it and was moved by his compassion for some of the guests at times.

Then he fell from grace. I think he made a bit of a Daily Mail-type comment but I can't be sure. I know he then was connected to UKIP which I suppose people see as akin to the BNP, but as far as I know, that is all he has done wrong.

Can someone explain if there is more to it than that or have I summed up his crimes? Because it seems to me he is universally disliked and saying a nice word about him is like saying Hitler fed baby birds in spring.

And, tbh, I don't get it.

No pointydog, I did not make myself clear. I meant, he had got a bad name in a short time on the I'm a celebrity programme. It only started last weekend didn't it? And on the programme this evening he was coming in for a bashing from other contestants.

ohhh, I see. Well, they'll have spent weeks reading all the tabloid nonsense about their jungle-mates. They will all know that kilroy is an arse

Just to compound his failings he appeared (to me anyway) to cheat at the bushtucker trial - not sure how much clever editing would be needed to give that impression without his help.

Can't stand him - he had a problem with Carly Zucker early on and then extrapolated it to include all the women... idiot.

He is making IACGMOOH essential viewing though - I love a bit of righteous indignation of an evening.

dumbledoresgirl,i too could never understand the hatred towards this man.I have to admit,I dont know much about his political background etc.and I dont know what he's supposed to have said to upset any type of religion/race/sex etc.so cant really judge. However,I think you've probably been like me and drawn your own conclusions about this man. That is(by me anyway)that he played "devil's advocate" to get a rise out of people on his chat-show etc.I actually see him as an OK kind of bloke with a bit of feistiness about him.However-as I said-I don't know THAT much about him so maybe i'll be proved wrong too.Just wanted you to know that I know where you're coming from.

All bets are off now with the advent of David van Day in any case who is looking to make RKS's 'foibles' pale into insignificance...
