Has anyone here got experience with going to rugby (union) games?

I recently have started watching rugby videos online seeing how intense the games are and have considered going to a Gallagher premiership match.

Are they fun? Or is international matches at Twickenham more fun?

It’s great fun! I’ve been going all my life and now take my dc. It’s a really fun, family friendly and enjoyable experience. We watch premiership and lower league rugby and they’re great in different ways.

DractPans · 24/10/2026 12:25

I think my local team would be the Saracens

I love a rugby day out (we’re Wales fans so go to the Principality stadium when we can). It’s fun and family friendly, we like taking our nieces when possible. Yes there’s lots of people drinking etc (and we like to have a couple of drinks while we’re there) but it is so much more relaxed than a football match. I haven’t been to many non-international matches (due to distance from the southern Welsh regions) but I would like to go and see Scarlets if I had the chance.

It’s obviously the best one, shame about the actual rugby!

I'm a season ticket holder for a prem club. Unlike football the fans all sit alongside each other. The only time that I've experienced any bad feeling was at a recent game with travelling Bath fans on a Friday night who had had too much to drink and were just unpleasant.

Very family friendly. You can pick up what's happening by listening to what everyone around you is saying.

Sarries play Quins at the Stoop (in Twickenham) tomorrow afternoon. Look out for Sarries women's games too as they have a whole host of Red Rose's internationals. The women's leagues are becoming increasingly competitive & are very accessible.

HewasH2O · 24/10/2026 12:48

I'm Cornish, not English, so also support Wales at the Principality. Surely this year they will keep heading upwards.

Savvysix1984 · 24/10/2026 12:51

I love twickenham for 6 nation games (and I’m not an England supporter). People hang around after having good, drinks and listening to music.

Just this season I've got into football and been to a few games. I don't swear and curse at the opposition or the referee though

Yes, absolutely. We will be watching our local men’s Prem side this afternoon. Wrap up warm and enjoy the atmosphere. It’s all very family friendly, opposing fans sit together. I’ve never seen any trouble.

Would very much recommend the women’s games as well. You can see some big names in action for very little cost.

Enjoy!

Been to loads of Sarries matches at Stone x. It’s not the most atmospheric of the rugby premiership ( Bath is the best I think and Leicester is great) but it’s still fun. They put on events before and after games and their food and drink offerings are ok and queuing isn’t the worst.
Best bit is they let everyone on the pitch afterwards - it’s hilarious watching everyone regress.
Wear warm clothes ( and more warm clothes). Both sides sit together so it doesn’t matter where you go. The cheap North seats are pretty good and easy to get to food and drink options if you want to try it out.

If you want Twickers the Premiership Final is open for ticket sales now. That’s actually a brilliant day out. Amazing atmosphere and now it’s in June you get lovely sun to watch it in .Book the Radisson hotel in the stadium ( do it now as prices shoot up) and you don’t have to fight 82,000 fans for the train back. You also get to see the players, ex players and the great and the good in walking around the hotel too. I was in the lift with a few of the Exeter team one year and you often see them at breakfast next day

DractPans · 24/10/2026 14:18

Do you all watch rugby league as well? Or would you recommend just sticking with union?

OP posts:
fishingtime · 24/10/2026 15:39

We only watch and play union. We go to Murrayfield - season ticket holders too. Our local rugby club is brilliant. The teams won’t set the world on fire but we are a friendly club where everyone is close. The seniors team in particular are good friends with strong bonds and help each other out with anything from finding jobs to mental health support and work in the community.

Everyone will say their teams anthem at the big stadiums is the best. Try it if you can, it gets the goosebumps bumping.

HewasH2O · 24/10/2026 15:41

We don't do League in the SW

Modernschooling · 24/10/2026 16:42

League is a very different game though. It’s a midlands/ northern variant faster with no scrums.
With union you also get a good European league too. It’s very fun to watch a game in France. They are mad for rugby and their stadiums go absolutely nuts. They are lovely fans and are very welcoming.

DractPans · 24/10/2026 17:11

Thank you all! I'll look for a game to go to!

Such good fun. We had season tickets as kids and my parenrs still do now. Such a good, friendly atmosphere.

TonTonMacoute · 24/10/2026 17:30

The Gallagher Prem matches are brilliant fun to attend. We are Exeter Chiefs fans, but the ticket prices have gone through the roof this season, so I don't think we'll be going so frequently, unfortunately

MissyB1 · 24/10/2026 17:40

Yes go for it, very friendly at Rugby matches. We have season tickets for our local club - Gloucester.

HewasH2O · 24/10/2026 18:41

Good matches in the London area for clubs in the next tier down too. A bit earthier! Look up English Champ rugby and see what's closest to you.

Cracking win for you last night. The Shed was on fire!

SkySoaring · 24/10/2026 18:48

I used to have a stands season ticket for Bath. when I lived in Wiltshire. Female, 30s, going by myself. I loved every minute (although I admit I never got past the pub round the corner on the day it rained cats and dogs). Highly recommended!

Conditions were brutal tonight, you didn’t miss much! I’m on the opposition side, so happy with the result 😉 🐻

God yes, it must have been horrendous!

Chiefs not had a great start to the season unfortunately

DractPans · 25/10/2026 10:54

I watched a YouTube video of the last England France 6 nations game. I know England lost but the game looked really fun and action packed
