At the end of the last Bond film he was killed, blown to smithereens with no chance of survival.

So how can there be a new James Bond?

But each actor is playing the same character which is James Bond. Even though they were all playing the character there was a thread tunning through the films about his back story and childhood.

I'm with you op. I originally thought it would be portrayed as his daughter being the new 007 but now I know it's definitely going to be a male actor, I think there is going to be some story about how he got out of that alive.

each actor has portrayed Bond differently though. They’re very much not a continuation of each other.

I would imagine the daughter won’t be mentioned again

I always thought James Bond was a code name. So they all had their own name but were all known as "James Bond."

Well he’s always been very happy to tell people his name which I always thought was odd for a supposedly secret agent

Same reason that there are about 10 versions of the Spiderman film. It's just different director / cast / studios' ideas of what James Bond would be like, not a running story.

007 is the code name. James Bond was one person.

Because James Bond is a spook name, a fake name given to a spy. I was really annoyed in Skyfall when he visited his father's grave and the name on the headstone was Bond, his dad wouldn't have that surname would he? Should have been a Scottish one beginning with Mac or Mc.
