I’m having the worst week…

I really am.

Monday my lovely old cat has to be put to sleep, I’d had him for 15 years and it was very sad and sudden.

Tuesday I got a call from my sister to say my dad had a suspected stroke, really unwell and in hospital, although luckily it wasn’t a stroke but he’s still very unwell in hospital and will be there for a
while.

Wednesday my other cat went out and I haven’t seen him since and I am just sick with worry about him. I honestly feel like I’m cursed this week.

just want to go to bed and cry but on my way to see my old dad (3 hour journey!).

has anyone got any good
news stories to cheer me up (especially re missing cats).

I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a bad week and 💐 for your cat that passed away.

To give you some hope for your other cat, I lost one of mine once - he’d gone missing all night and still hadn’t come back the following afternoon which wasn’t like him. I knocked on my neighbour’s doors and no-one had seen him. On walking away from one neighbour (thinking that I may not see him again!), I heard what I thought was a faint meow, then I heard another one. Knocked back on neighbour’s door and my cat was in their garage!! When he got released and saw me he came trotting over to see me with his tail high🙂.

I hope your cat turns up soon and your Dad gets better. This too shall pass.

@Topsy44 this is exactly the sort of reassuring message I wanted to see. Thank you 🙏

We lost our cat once, went out every night looking for him, made posters, asked around, cried myself to sleep. It turned he had got stuck in next doors annexe for a whole week. We had to pay for it to be professionally cleaned but we were just so happy to have him back. So sorry for your loss and I hope your other cat is found.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad and your cats. For the missing one I can relate. Our 12 year old cat went missing during the heatwave for a week. We moved last Halloween and she’d not been out much then one morning she jumped out the window we think. I saw her a bit later in the shed roof. She meowed loudly at me and backed away and never came back until my DH did a stake out in the early hours in our massive garden. We think she’d got confused and couldn’t remember which house she lived at. I do hope yours returns soon. It is a worry but I think they will be back x

Our cat disappeared for 2 weeks once. He sauntered back in nonchalantly as if nothing had happened. No idea where he had been .

Sorry you’ve had such a bad week, OP.

Upwaytooearly · Yesterday 16:15

Thanks all so much for your replies and good news cat return stories ♥️

my friend has a cat that goes walk about on a regular basis (he likes to convince the neighbourhood that he's neglected and starving) but she usually gives it a few days before posting on the local facebook page and without fail he saunters through the catflap without a care in the world within 24hours.

Winglessvulture · Yesterday 16:21

Sorry you have had such a horrible week.

One of our cats went missing for a week once. We were all worried as it was very unlike her, but then one morning we opened the back door and there she was. She was very hungry and tired, so I assume she got locked in somewhere.

I hope your cat turns up soon, and also that your dad recovers quickly.

Thank you for all your positive cat stories ♥️

Aren't cats funny ? No fear of exploring so far away from home . Hopefully she will have had a good look around and will head back soon . Bet she will be miffed if you aren't back yet .
Sorry to hear about your father

Upwaytooearly · Yesterday 21:12

@Nofeckingway my gut tells me he will return but in the meantime I’m in bits. 😢

Mine didn't come home for breakfast.Neighbour didn't have him. Only place he could be. Kept looking, got more and more worried, decided I had to tell the kids then heard him. Turned out the neighbour did have him. He'd hidden so well under his kitchen chair. Last week it was half seven and not in for breakfast. Again, waited until thinking I'd have it tell the kids and he appeared. 9:30. So now I'm just going straight to need to tell the kids..

When I owned 2 cats ,one went missing the first day they were allowed out we kept checking. On the 4th day we noticed he had returned, we opened the back door and he went straight to his food bowl and his water. After that he didn't ever wander off. He looked for his brother and they cuddled up and the one who went missing fell fast asleep.

madaboutpurple · Yesterday 22:22

Apologies I hope your Dad recovers quickly. I got carried away remembering my cat story.

Patty101 · Yesterday 22:35

Oh what a shit time you're having, I'm so sorry.

My 16 Yr old house cat went missing, never been further than the decking in the back garden.

I was absolutely beside myself, went out searching until the early hours every night. Sat out in my street on a deckchair shouting his name and whistling him until dawn every night for a week. Made posters and delivered them to every house local to us.

A week after he went missing a neighbour called and said he was in his back garden hiding behind his shed. Bringing him home was one of the happiest memories I'll ever have.

Don't give up hope.

Sunbringer · Yesterday 22:51

Same mate. My already extremely ill husband got Lyme Disease, god knows how, I’m already exhausted caring for him, working because he lost his job due to his disabling other illness, I’m also doing a full time degree so knackered. Then the neighbours dog took a shit ON MY DOORSTEP and they left it there for me to stand in on my way out. I wanted to burst into tears. Then the wrong card scanned on the train so I got charged an additional £12. I helped someone get their phone back they’d left on the bus and my AirPods broke immediately after🙃 so much for karma.

This is actually a cursed week. I hate it. I will wave my fist at this week for you also.

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · Yesterday 23:03

I am so sorry OP, it is awful when we lose our pets. My 11yo dog passed away suddenly this week and I am devastated, I understand how you feel ❤️ I am very sorry about your dad as well.

As for reassurance where cats are concerned, I have two cats and when we got our youngest dog as a puppy she flounced off for over a week. I was so sure we’d never see her again as the weather was particularly hideous but she strolled back in quite the thing looking no worse for wear.

And just the other week my younger cat was gone for nearly 3 days and I was beside myself, it’s completely unlike her to wander so I went and knocked on our neighbours’ doors. She had gotten locked in one of their summerhouses 🤦🏻‍♀️ the stress these cats cause me!! Hopefully yours will be just fine.

Upwaytooearly · Today 00:10

Thank you for these - they’re giving me hope.

@Sunbringer - sorry you’re having a terrible week too!

OP posts:
MaggieBsBoat · Today 00:18

Oh I’m so sorry that you are both having a dreadful week @Upwaytooearly and @Sunbringer !

Our then 15 year cat disappeared for 10 days once. Every night we walked the neighbourhood calling his name, children weeping. Calling all the vets (he was chipped but nevertheless), sticking up posters. He then turned up at our door. He was thin and desperately dehydrated. I think he’d accidentally got stuck in a tenement stairwell or garden shed. He didn’t leave the house for weeks and followed me around like a lost soul. Slept on my bed for the first time ever. Quite traumatised poor bub. Breathe deep, I am sure your furry family member will return.

I am sorry for your dad and everything that’s going on. I hope his condition improves quickly xx

Upwaytooearly · Today 01:14

Thank you @MaggieBsBoat - am hoping for a similar outcome. 💔

Urghhh, haven’t slept a wink worrying about the cat. Good news though is my dad is so much better in himself and being moved to a much nearer hospital to us all.

just need my beloved cat back now.

OP posts:
Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · Today 07:26

I’m really sorry. Having a shitty couple of weeks myself, mostly cat worry related.

I really hope your cat is soon home.

Your nearest branch of Cats Protection will have a lost and found register so worth calling them.

Have you thought about a tracker on their collar? Doesn’t help right now of course but could prevent future stress.

I bought one for a friend as a present (my own cat has a catio so no need) and she has found it really useful. Plus she enjoys finding out what her cat has been up to everyday.

Upwaytooearly · Today 07:39

@Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit - sorry you’re having cat worries too. Sending lots of positive energy your way.

if he returns I’ll definitely be getting a tracker for him. He’s never taken to a collar but he is microchipped and neutered. He’s never been one to go very far but I think he’s confused with the other cat going so suddenly.
