Who else is unwell?

Dear god, this is a bad one 🤦🏻‍♂️ started 5 days ago with sore throat, didn't feel too bad apart from that. Has progressed from tickly cough to chesty cough with bad body aches and now runny nose. Mild fever

I feel so utterly awful. Lying in bed feeling too unwell to sleep, read or watch TV. Taking paracetamol/ ibuprofen and Benylin chesty cough syrup. Eating and drinking pretty normally

Chat GPT reckons it's viral bronchitis, could also be COVID I guess. Anyone else feeling similar, or been through similar recently?

I've just recovered from this. I had a peculiar cold for a week that seemed to range in severity day to day - then it just basically knocked me out (and I'm not someone that gets ill often). I ended up with bronchitis. Stay warm. Have lots of hot drinks. Don't lay down all the time - you ideally need to sit up and go for a walk around the house every hour or so. I would say I had 2/3 days of feeling extremely ill then it gradually got better. 💐

cheekaa · 21/10/2026 13:20

I have just had this as well. Try gargling with warm salty water few times a day as well.

Lottapianos · 21/10/2026 14:05

Thank you @SaraHoliday . This is my second day of feeling properly dreadful so fingers crossed I will start feeling slightly better from tomorrow 🤞

I came home from work on Monday feeling fine, and then within an hour couldn’t stop shivering and couldn’t get warm. Went to bed, feverish all night, very achey, spent all day in bed yesterday. Today fever seems to have gone, but sore throat bedding in. Not much of an appetite (but also, not exactly burning calories). Have worked from home today. I did have my flu jab last Friday, but it seems unlikely I’d have this bad a delayed reaction? Wondering if it’s the latest Covid strain.

Fiftyandme · 21/10/2026 14:22

I’m on day 10 and still no better

Meteorite87 · 21/10/2026 14:32

Damn that's a hard hit for an early winter virus @Lottapianos

If you're concerned it could be any form of bronchitis, is it possible for you to see a Dr?
Work with the appetite and energy level you have. Some nutritionally imperfect food is better than none. Pure fruit juices might make your throat sting.
I hope your symptoms ease.

So far, I've had one relatively mild cold, but dread what you describe. Chronic asthma can complicate colds and flu.

Lottapianos · 21/10/2026 15:03

'I did have my flu jab last Friday, but it seems unlikely I’d have this bad a delayed reaction?'

I had my flu jab 2 days before the symptoms started. I was at a conference with 200 people on the same day, probably caught it from one of them!

Just at the end of the same thing. Took a Covid test - positive instantly.

Lottapianos · 22/10/2026 09:35

Did a COVID test today - surprised that it was negative. I know they're not 100% accurate. I seem to have all the symptoms

Fever spiked again over night - shocking aches and pains and freezing cold. Has come down to normal now. Cough less intense than yesterday. Feeling wiped out and hoping this will shift very soon

I think you will see a noticeable improvement tomorrow (if it follows the same pattern as the virus I had).

I just had to rest up and basically do very little. My GP said to still move about and try to sit up to help the lungs. It gradually improved each day but I still think I'm not 100% back to 'normal' but at least I can do things now. 💐

howmuchisthat · 22/10/2026 10:05

Me! Day 5 and still struggling to breathe properly but I’m out my bed today which is progress. Hope you feel better soon x

Armorlux · 22/10/2026 10:23

My adult DS had exactly your symptoms,OP, and covid test was a definite positive. He started about last Wednesday and tested on Tuesday. He's just starting to feel a bit better.
Whatever yours is, I hope you feel better soon.

EllaPepper · 22/10/2026 10:28

sorry to add further misery. today is day 15 of the same / similar virus. i feel very nearly better now but dear god it's been rough.... cough, cold, fever, headache and the tinnitus nearly broke me. absolutely awful. sending you hugs and take care of yourself x

Greenfingers37 · 22/10/2026 10:53

I’ve had these symptoms for about a week. Beginning to feel a bit better, just very low energy.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 22/10/2026 10:56

Yep. Third week of it. New symptom for me is my feet have spontaneously peeled. Snake feet. A surprise when I took my socks off.
awful bug going around.

HisStericalTestes · 22/10/2026 11:05

Got my flu jab and Dr appt for a face to face next week and am actually considering wearing a face mask again...I hate this time of year.

Fiftyandme · 22/10/2026 11:12

Day 11 here now and still no better. I would have sworn up and down that this was Covid but fed a test in day 3 and it was negative

saltrock123 · 22/10/2026 12:21

I’m immune suppressed but have had this for weeks now. Began with sore throat, earache fever. Week 5 now and still chesty. Doc said viral flu.

Lottapianos · 22/10/2026 12:53

Wishing everyone well. It's absolutely bloody miserable. Last night was the most unwell I've felt in years - raging fever and dreadful body aches

BillieWiper · 22/10/2026 12:57

Solidarity with the sick!

I just got over what was a horrible UR viral illness. It's only just going away now after 5 weeks. Had to postpone major nasal surgery!

Horrific sinusitis preceded by hoarse throat, runny nose and general malaise.

Hope everyone feels better and gets better soon! X

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 22/10/2026 13:00

Me 👋Started last Thursday, have felt awful ever since. I am assuming it is Covid as I have lost my sense of smell and that has never happened to me before, but could be wrong. It's miserable 😫

Hope you feel better soon OP and everyone else Flowers

Lottapianos · 22/10/2026 16:08

Fever is up again and dear god, the body aches 😩 cannot remember the last time I felt so ill. Cough is less of a problem, but sinuses are killing me and nose is streaming. Just awful

Phoned 111 and a doctor will phone me tomorrow. I'm really concerned that the fever and aches are ongoing even though cough has improved a bit

I decided to go to the GP as I thought 11 days of this was quite enough.

Ivd got flu and I should expect around another week if it.

Yay

Yes, diagnosed with bronchitis, and the Dr was concerned it was settling and could develop into pneumonia. A double dose of strong antibiotics, followed by a third, prevented me having to go into hospital, thank God.

I did have to cancel a planned Greek holiday ...that was a pain.
It lasted almost 4 weeks....hopefully yours wont be nearly as bad.
