Are you happy/content?

I recently came across a YouTube account where a lady visits various cities and asks random strangers if they are happy or not?

I appreciate that happiness is an emotion so one is hardly likely to be permanently happy throughout their lives but right now, right here are you happy? Are you very content?

Yes

RaggedRocks · 17/10/2026 13:06

Yes, I am retired, work sucks.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 17/10/2026 13:16

Yes. Life used to be utterly horrible and now it isn't.

Openmouthinsertfood · 17/10/2026 13:18

No. 😥

NorwegianForest · 17/10/2026 13:20

Yes 😀

MaeshoweDragon · 17/10/2026 13:21

Generally yes. I am usually very content.

But today, this particular day, no. DDog is seriously unwell, hard decisions to be made.

cartagenagina · 17/10/2026 13:24

Hugs to @MaeshoweDragon.

Yes, I am very happy and content and even have moments of pure joy.

I am 61, live alone, two adult DC. Work FT in a job I mostly enjoy and I wfh.

Lovely friends. Not rich but do own my own tiny home near the beach and countryside.

RaggedRocks · 17/10/2026 13:29

I am off to watch my local football team. Ask me again at 5 pm. If we lose I will be miserable for about half an hour, whilst I remember it is just a game.

violetcuriosity · 17/10/2026 13:43

Yes. I nearly died this year, realised how precious my life really is. I’m very lucky with my lot x

DoloresDelEriba · 17/10/2026 13:44

Yes, very.

Mydogisagentleman · 17/10/2026 13:47

Fortunately, yes

CarrieMoonbeams · 17/10/2026 13:51

Yes, very much so.

leperol · 17/10/2026 13:54

Yes, but not 100% of the time. That would not be normal IMV.

I suppose the things that make us happy and content are different for everyone, but largely they boil down to good relationships with partner (if you have one), family and friends, financial security and decent health.

Needacalminginfluence · 17/10/2026 14:00

I recognise that compared to a lot of people I am lucky. But I don't think content is something I ever could identify with because I just worry all the time about everything and anything.

SummerInSun · 17/10/2026 14:01

Very. Two lovely DS when for a long time it was touch and go whether we would be able to have DC. DH who I occasionally want to hit over the head with a fry pan but mostly love and really enjoy his company. Job that’s stressful at times but which I find very interesting and I like my colleagues.

This thread is a good reminder to count my blessings in that way!

Yes. Me too. Completely agree.

BedOfFerns · 17/10/2026 14:49

Yes I am. I lead a little, frugal life and think many people would wonder how I can be happy, but I don't need much and love what and who I have.

I can relate to that. I have always worried about everything and it can really overshadow contentment at times.

It's good to see there are contented people out there. There is often so much negativity online it's good to see.

Yep - something to do, someone to love and something to look forward to.

Autumnbootcamp · 17/10/2026 16:44

I fluctuate on a daily basis. Right now I feel very happy and content as I've just spent time with two school friends who I've known for 40 years!

But I've been a single mum for 10 years and I hate it. However I look on the bright side where possible and I see more love and compansionship in my future.

momager22 · 17/10/2026 16:45

Yes very.
Im not rich but I have everything I need right now. I appreciate the little things more and more these days.

keepswimming38 · 17/10/2026 16:51

I’ve just been thinking about a school friend that died on a motorcycle at 17. I’m 59 now. All the life he never experienced. I feel lucky.

Freshrain · 17/10/2026 17:06

Yes, but I think a lot of this has to do with mindset.

Obviously we all have bad days / sad or difficult periods in our lives, but I think 'glass half full' people look for the good in situations, and 'moaners' will always find negative, or look for things they would like but don't have.

Ladidahdi · 17/10/2026 17:12

Yeah most of the time I’m pretty content. I was thinking about it the other day, I have a lovely partner, healthy children, a secure job that I enjoy and a warm home. I’m pretty rich in things that make me happy. Yes, there are issues, my health isn’t the best at the minute but altogether, I’m golden.
