I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my conservatory spot, after a nice lie in with boy cat. I've put the washer on already, and had a quick tidy round...plus rescued boy cat's ball from under the sofa 🙄.

Dd2's awake but not been down yet. We're meant to be nipping into town today to buy her a new duvet. She didn't sound overly thrilled when I reminded her last night so when she eventually surfaces I'll offer to nip in one afternoon after work instead & get one for both girls.

If we don't end up going, I have some violas to pop in an unused pot in the garden, and want to jigsaw the last bits of weed membrane around a couple of shrubs. The bindweed seems to have backed off nicely already though, it doesn't seem to be trying to grow up the wall or where there are gaps 🥳. I also want to try and turn 3 same size ish branches into a tripod to dangle a cauldron from for Halloween...I can't work out how to make it bubble, or smoke, though. I thought maybe battery tea lights & something to blow about in the top of it but haven't quite thought it through properly 🤔.

Once those bits are done, I'm up to assembling my crochet project so will carry on with that - maybe I can get it done & gone by Monday!!

No idea what tea will be yet but it'll be showers & read this evening, before getting snuggled up with boy cat again 😊.

What about all of you? 🙂

I tempted fait and had a takeaway last night my gallbladder is not an happy bunny today so it's very much a home centred day today. Going to use the opportunity to catch up on a few loads of washing and message a few friends that life has got in the way of friendship.

Good morning!

I wakened early this morning and had some coffee in bed before everyone else was up was lovely. DH has DS12 at rugby and I’m at home with the two smaller ones. I’ve cleaned downstairs and put a wash on. Will get everyone ready soon.
Today we are heading into town. DH is taking DS12 and DS8 to the fancy cinema while me and DS3 go round the shops. I’ve promised him a trip to the entertainer and greggs. Then we’ve said they can all pick some books.
Home tonight for a tapas type dinner for me and DH. Maybe mcds for the kids, but if not something easy. Will light the fire and have some wine.
Have a great day all!

Tiddlywinks63 · 17/10/2026 10:15

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone, it’s a beautiful clear autumn morning here, I’ve taken bigger dog out for a walk (DH took tiddler early), the first longer walk since my lung surgery. It was wonderful to be out in the sunshine.
I have had my bowl of porridge with blueberries and maple syrup, I will go upstairs in a bit anger started on something arty about bloody time! I need to put the washing away too.
Poor DGC1 is really unwell with shingles, I have ordered a couple of bits for him and will post them tomorrow.
DH has the hedge trimmer out…..talk about boys and their toys….. it’s taking an interminable length of time to cut one hedge about 10m long and a solitary big shrub. He’s already cut through the cable twice 😬 He’s moaning that my big gardening tub handles have broken too, I wonder how that happened?
Anyway, have a lovely weekend, it’s going to be sunny.

DilemmaDelilah · 17/10/2026 10:17

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I should be having a free Clarins express treatment at the moment, but I woke up feeling very nauseous so I haven't gone to that. We have somebody here cleaning the sofa and the carpets this morning. We've had her before and she is very good, so I know she will do a good job. I'm hiding upstairs at the moment but will go down in about half an hour, before she starts on the stairs.

Mr Dilemma is going out on my behalf later on to pick up a couple of tops for Houdini I am buying through Facebook marketplace. And he will be picking up chorister grandson from orchestra practice later on.

I've had a piece of toast this morning because I have to have something with my meds, but I don't think I'm going to be having any lunch. I roasted a last legs chicken yesterday and the plan was to have some of that cold with salad and jacket potatoes this evening. I'm not sure if I will be able to manage that - I might just have a small chicken sandwich if I have anything, and again I need to eat with my evening meds.

When I go downstairs I'm going to fish out some felt shapes I have already cut out and some beads to make some more Christmas decorations (we don't need). I made myself a bag during the week, which was interesting! It's not bad, but I have learned all sorts of things NOT to do, or which need to be done BEFORE other bits. I'm going to sit in our conservatory/dining room. I have already put the heater on in there. Then when the carpet cleaning is done I will probably retire to bed with a hot water bottle.

frozendaisy · 17/10/2026 10:22

Morning morning morning

Two of us have gone off to chase a ball around
Whilst I shout at eldest and do the scraggly washing (you know lots of small loads that you can’t mix)

Then a day of studying and cooking ahead.
Everything in house
Mexican banquet for dinner
Am attempting brownies in the baking department (been reading apparently you whip up the mixture once eggs in - almost like meringue mix to get that nice crispy bit on top and plunge the rest out of the oven into a bigger tray full of iced cold water to stop the heating in the tray hence turning them more cake like) - there is so much that can go wrong don’t you think?

I have sketched out a double portrait so might put the shading layers in paint down.

bucketfull · 17/10/2026 10:25

👋 I always enjoy reading your threads @lucysmamalthough I haven’t posted before.

Dh got us some pastries from Lidl and we just had breakfast. I’m sitting in the lounge by myself at the moment with piano focus (bbc radio) on and Hamnet to read. I can hear the washing machine in the background and my dc upstairs going through his piles of Lego to fish out parts for whatever he is building. Dh is in the bathroom.

It feels very relaxed right now and we don’t have plans but there are many little jobs around the house, as well as dh wanting to go and see a new motorbike to replace his old one that was stolen from his workplace a couple of weeks ago…
I’m volunteering for Jnr Park tomorrow at a new place and looking forward to that. Dc is taking part and I’m very proud he is giving it a go even though he is not a good runner.

Very tempted to put the heater on! We are a few miles north of London.

OchreSwan · 17/10/2026 10:26

Morning @lucysmamand all. Beautiful bright sunny day here, but cold! I got back from an overseas work trip a couple of days ago, which was the culmination of several months of intense work, so feel I’m still in recovery mode. Didn’t wake up until 9am this morning which is very unlike me!

So, a quiet day calls. Need to blitz the house and then hoping for a lovely walk in the sun, and a glass of wine this evening while we catch up on last night’s Traitors.

ShipshapeShore · 17/10/2026 10:31

Need to do a full house reset as I've been really tired this week. I fancy an Autumn walk through the fields near me plus there's a Starbucks on the route which is rather appealing.

I haven't done any crochet for a while so I might look for a new project, I feel like I've neglected creative things and it's all been work and chores. Time for some self care!

Meadowfinch · 17/10/2026 10:31

I woke up too late for Parkrun so I'll run later when it has warmed up a bit.

The order of the day is breakfast, food shopping and hobbycraft, visit the library to print off some pension forms, then home, run, lunch, and probably hedge trimming this afternoon.

Tonight I'm trying a new recipe for a supper party next week. 😊I'll make a cake if I have time.

Taytocrisps · 17/10/2026 10:33

Morning lucysmam and everyone else. I'm snuggled under a nice fleecy blanket. DCat1 is enjoying the blanket too and has his head resting on my legs. DCat2 is on top of the armchair by the window. DD and her boyfriend are still in bed. It was very cold this morning (there was a frost on the cars) but it's bright and sunny now. Looks like a beautiful Autumn day outside.

I'll get moving shortly and put on some laundry and load up the dishwasher. We're putting up the Hallowe'en decorations today, so I'm looking forward to that. We all love Hallowe'en in this house.

Hotafternoon · 17/10/2026 10:35

Meeting my friend to go to our beach hut around lunchtime. Its a lovely day, sunny and blue sky but bit chilly and we need to make the most of using the hut as the weather will make it harder to go down as often as we have been. 😎

Be down there till about 3.30 ish then home to get washing in that I hope will be dry by then and think about getting something to eat.

Rainbow1235 · 17/10/2026 10:38

Good morning lucysmam and to u all I’m just sat having a coffee and we are having carpet laid on landing and stairs which was meant to happen last weekend but never mind it should be sorted soon . I want to pop to the range as want a nice vase and flowers for table at top of stairs then I’m thinking Chinese tonite whilst watching strictly . Have a great and safe day all 🫶

PeasOff · 17/10/2026 10:40

@lucysmamI've seen some good ideas using fabric/tissue paper/cotton wool and flameless tealights for the smoky cauldron effect!

Having a peaceful morning so far with DD. OH has popped to the barbers to get his hair cut and I'm going to get my nails done once he's back.

We're all popping out for dinner with SIL and DN later.

Will be doing cleaning and washing in between.

TheFunSponge · 17/10/2026 10:42

Beautiful sunny but very chilly morning here. Will walk the dog, bake some brownies and do a few chores. Then Chinese takeaway tonight and watching Strictly.

Thislittlekitten · 17/10/2026 10:48

Morning Saturday Squad though afternoon where I am

We are on holiday. Been a lovely week. Weather mixed but we haven’t cared. Managed to get some sun and pool time and lots of reading catch up
on tv shows. I don’t watch much tv at home. Things are so busy with work and college and when we go back exams for me and DD!

We are just relaxing today. Yesterday was hot, today it’s raining but we are choosing to have a chill day. DH has been out and got us fresh eggs and bread which was nice.

Lots of reading and shows and planning on going out tonight to watch some football and have tea. Enjoy your Saturday everyone.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 17/10/2026 10:50

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Absolutely beautiful day here in Cornwall with sunshine & clear blue skies but definitely chilly. Unfortunately I have to work later. Productive morning so far. Fed the bunnies & let 2 of them out, unloaded/loaded the dishwasher, did 2 lots of laundry ( need to hang it out), put the washing machine on a drum clean & sorted out some piles of magazines etc. Also brought some stuff in from the car which I’m happy to report no longer resembles an Evri delivery van! Working 12 til 4 then off to Asda with DH’s credit card as I am currently overdrawn. We’re having Asda pizzas for tea unless they’ve run out of toppings which our branch often does. Also need a few other bits. I haven’t done a meal plan yet so will do a proper food shop after that. This evening will be The Voice & Strictly. I have an episode of All Creatures Great & Small to catch up on. DH will be working till 5. Unsure of DD17’s plans. I know she’s busy planning her outfit for a gig next month. Have a great Saturday folks! ❤️

OneNewEagle · 17/10/2026 10:51

Quiet weekend here planned. DP is off doing hobby stuff both days so left earlier .

But I was woken up very early by my rescue cats. Had cuddles with both of them in bed, more sleep, a bowl of porridge and have the washing on.

I cooked stew yesterday to eat over the weekend with bread then other easy meals like pasta, and eggs. So no proper cooking.

No plans whatsoever as my health is not so good at the moment. I have a book to get on with and a tv show to try. I would like to make a start on some craft projects but not sure I am up to it yet.

lucysmam · 17/10/2026 10:52

Thanks @PeasOff , I'll have to have a google and see what I can find!

I've just gone to have a quick reset in the living room and sigh at the unfinished bits & found boy cat sunning himself on the sofa. Never seen him on there since we got it! I've left him in peace for now & retreated to the conservatory with a coffee. I'll drink that then find out what dd2 wants to do, and get dressed either way.

Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

Notgrowing · 17/10/2026 11:01

I woke about 35 minutes ago, now having second coffee.
Jump in the shower and binge online all day.
I had a deep clean yesterday.
So i have no work no chores no laundry no visitors ahhh bliss.

Spamatemyraisens · 17/10/2026 11:10

Woke up at 6 and browsed Mumsnet between intermittently dosing.
Started on the washing and cleaning the bathroom. Whole house tidy to today which I'm looking forward to as it's run away with me of late.
Popped into town with DD and had a browse around the shops. Just about to walk my doggies and will have a coffee on the way back in the cafe that my eldest DD works at.
Off out for dinner later.
It's the first day in a very long time where I haven't had to be up and out of the house and I'm going to enjoy just doing things in my own time.

lucysmam · 17/10/2026 11:17

Dd's been down for breakfast - she wants to do college work today & nip into town on her day off on Tuesday, which is fine by me & means I can potter at the violas, weed membrane and crafty things. I'm more likely to come home & achieve not much on a weekday anyway, so a wander into town then will be nice and chill.

I might tick something else off my "finish downstairs by Christmas" list too!

Just on my way to meet 2 former work colleagues at Kew Gardens… lovely sunny ☀️ and dry day for it

afaloren · 17/10/2026 11:28

Morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I’ve been up and taken the dog to the vet for his monthly injection. DH and I will take him to the park shortly.

Then we’re dropping the dog at DM’s and heading to Bristol to meet SIL and her boyfriend to see Back to the Future: The Musical! Really excited. We’re going to Pieminster for dinner beforehand. Will be a late drive back

Giggorata · 17/10/2026 11:32

Good morning lucysmam and all.

I am having to drive to a village some miles away to pick up a parcel, where there is a delivery point. I am certain that I specified a home delivery and I am pissed off. This is the second time it has happened, but this time, it isn't even the nearest delivery point.. grr.
Oh well, it will be a nice country drive. And I really should stop buying things.

So when I get back, a friend is bringing back my dehydrator. I haven't used it at all this year because of the poor harvest, but he had a tomato glut.
I pictured a sumptuous haul of dried fruit from our little orchard.. the reality was quite different!

DH has gone down to the land to prepare for planting garlic.

He has bought some steaks from the new butcher in our nearest town, to try them out. I'm not that keen on steak, so I’m going to make spag bol, using the chicken stock I made yesterday.
I bought some (loads of) powdered buttermilk on a whim, so I'm going to look at recipes and ideas that aren’t scones. Maybe rice pudding will be nice.

No plans for this evening, apart from resting and reading or watching a film. I had a bit of an episode yesterday when my heart started doing the rumba, so I’m being very careful and slow.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 17/10/2026 11:53

Morning all, I was up early this morning, went and met my little run club for a 5k in the park, then went for coffee and a catch up, lovely way to start the day! Came home for a quick shower and change, then I’ll soon be back out, I’m playing in a padel tournament, it’s a big event with a market, DJ, street food etc, so looking forward to that. Dinner tonight will be something from the freezer (Tesco delivery due tomorrow). I’ve got a choice of chicken skewers or creamy pesto prawns so will see what I fancy. DD is away for the weekend so I’ve got the house to myself which is a rare treat!
