I didn't even know about this story, so thanks (err...) for drawing it to my attention.

There's a summary on the Guardian if anyone would like that.

MyPurpleHeart · 14/10/2026 16:55

Whatever happened, its pretty shitty to go on social media to your millions of followers and talk shit about a company because you couldn't buy a toy you wanted

WonderfulSmith · 14/10/2026 16:57

Not heard about it, and I’m on Reddit a lot.
And I didn’t know about whatever it is until now.

MistressMerkin · 14/10/2026 16:58

Literally never heard of her or this story, despite spending a lot of time on FB/Instagram!

HoldMyWine · 14/10/2026 17:00

I have no idea who or what you are talking about. I could eat a burger though

She was the very first winner of American Idol and has an excellent voice.

IzzyLeng · 14/10/2026 17:14

I've read about this. I think she's done herself no favours. Makes her look really bad. The item wasn't for sale. She's now accused them of lying saying there was a price tag. Shop says it means you can have one made for 15k but you can't buy that precise one. She seems to have misunderstood them saying "you can't have this one but we can find an alternative"

I haven't heard any further updates but I believe the shop.

malloryknox123 · 14/10/2026 17:31

is the world mad at Kelly for not fitting the accepted definition of beauty standards again?

No, not that.

noblegiraffe · 14/10/2026 17:57

The story keeps going because the shop majorly fucked up in their response to a customer complaint and keep releasing more responses (and presumably the CCTV footage for everyone to look at) instead of saying 'sorry your experience at our store was disappointing'.

It's a case study in what not to do.

Edited

Picturing that scene from Pulp Fiction, but ordering a 'Nothing, with Cheese' instead of a 'Royale, with Cheese'

But it was more than disappointing according to her. She was throwing some strong accusations around about people looking at her funny and judging her. I can see why they wanted to defend themselves.

It doesn't matter! It was their error in the first place, having a price tag on an item that wasn't actually for sale.

From her perspective, she went into a shop looking scruffy (from the CCTV), she asked to purchase an item which had a large price tag on it and they said no. Everything else follows from this. She got the impression (deserved or otherwise) that this was because they thought she couldn't afford it, their defence is irrelevant because it shouldn't have had a price tag in the first place.

Admit the error, apologise and try to make it up to the customer. Ignore the emotional accusations because you want to defuse not escalate. 'We're sorry your experience was disappointing' NOT 'you were wrong to be disappointed'.

IzzyLeng · 14/10/2026 19:24

Of course they can have a price tag on it. They are made to order - for the price on the tag. She just needed to wait for one to be made for her. She can't have the one which is screwed to the wall and has been the main fixture of the shop for ever. If they didn't have a price on people might just think it is a shop ornament and not enquire.

Sounds like a celeb who is stamping her feet because she didn't get her own way. Doesn't like to be told no. Doesn't want to wait.

It doesn't matter. It is reasonable to assume that an item with a price tag on it in a shop is for sale.

The shop should still have said 'sorry your experience in our store was disappointing'.

Going on the offensive against somewhat of a national treasure is a stupid move in customer relations, however righteous you may feel as an individual. It's bad business.

Error404FucksNotFound · 14/10/2026 19:30

My understanding is she didnt get her arsed kissed like a mega superstar. Instead, she was told no.
She was so outraged by this that she set her rabid fans on the shop.

And most reasonable people when told that that specific one isn't for sale but we can contact the person who makes them so they can make one for you accept that.
