Party lunch for allergies

Hosting a child's party next weekend, dd has requested pizza delivery, fantastic option, I was looking forward to not having to make anything!

One of the invitees is allergic to dairy, eggs and nuts, I suggested to her Mum a vegan pizza but she doesn't like pizza apparently, but will eat "anything else".

Can you suggest something lovely I can provide for her with minimal effort due to time constraints I can't bake anything, so shop bought stuff that travels well? Google suggests crudities and hummus, which doesn't scream "party" to me.

Ask the mum to give the options. Because clearly she won’t eat anything else.

That would be the ideal but the Mum doesn't have much English and is quite dismissive 😐

Does the pizza place do chicken? Or anything other than pizza? I know Dominoes does.

As a mum of children with these allergies I always provided the food in this scenario!

Chips and chicken nuggets/burger might work and you can get mum to check the packets (I always want to check the packets)

skivitis · 06/10/2026 13:01

Vegan pizza is a fairly acquired taste to be fair

Bitzee · 06/10/2026 13:02

I’d just say you’re ordering pizza, happy to chuck in a dairy free one, but if the girl doesn’t like pizza then mum should send a packed lunch. It’s one thing catering to allergies. It’s another catering to fussiness.

lavendersweetly · 06/10/2026 13:07

Well, most food has a vegan/allergen-free option these days Things like vegan sausage rolls/vegan chicken nuggets, most chips/fries are vegan, crisps? The possibilities are literally endless but I guess it's hard to know for certain if Mum hasn't given you much information or ideas about what she would eat. Could you ask your DD what her friend likes, or maybe ask her directly?

As a vegan, I also do not like pizza that has vegan cheese so I usually eat one that is the tomato base only. I get this Crosta & Mollica one.

She has enough English to say her daughter doesn’t like pizza. If she is dismissive, tell her the pizza will be the option unless she chooses something else.

Patioplant · 06/10/2026 13:09

Ask her mum. Don’t give it any further beyond that

Oh come on, don’t be daft.

worst case she can use google translate

titchy · 06/10/2026 13:11

Send her a link to the menu and ask her to choose something suitable, alternatively please can she send her with food, which you’ll be happy to heat up if needed.

Patioplant · 06/10/2026 13:11

How old is your child?

This, ask her mun to provide ideas something she knows she will eat. Not liking pizza is fine but you don't want to be faffing making something that she might not eat.

Shedmistress · 06/10/2026 13:15

If she is allergic to dairy then will having any cheese at the party be an issue?

I'd send her the menu and ask her to choose something, and point out if she is allergic maybe even being there might be risky.

Just ask her to send something with her Dd to eat.

runnerducky · 06/10/2026 13:18

Bung some chicken nuggets in the air fryer/oven or something? I would do that and then just some crisps and chopped veg etc. If she doesn’t like any of that then 🤷‍♀️

Walkerzoo · 06/10/2026 13:18

Ask her to bring something or send a link to something she eats.

If a child has this level of allergies, in my experience (many years of parties) the mum sends their own.

Also if this amount of allergies is she staying (or someone) and is there an epi pen.

I had one friend in group and mum always stayed and monitored food. The kids all knew the rules eg no hugging or touching after eating the food to the child I less hands washed but the mum took it serious

Twoweeksinaugust · 06/10/2026 13:21

You know what, I hadn't even thought of Dominoes doing anything other than pizza, but yes they'll do some sort of chicken, I'll order that, thanks @Watto1

DC are 5, she told my daughter she likes spicy rice mostly, I'm certainly not making and transporting rice and poisoning the poor child 😢. The Mum just says she'll eat "something from the table", despite me explaining there is no table, just pizza. It's all via text and very confusing 😕 .

a pasta bowl or sandwich would probably be ok! but i would ask the mum.

it’s very kind of you to be so thoughtful about including a child with allergies. what a lovely person you are!

Every parent has to do this these days!

My child has allergies and very few people consider her when party planning so we always bring our own food. However I’m not in the UK so maybe that’s the difference! And there are some people who will provide an allergy safe cake, but 95% of the time they don’t. As mum I understand and I’m not complaining about it, but I know my DD always feels a bit sad at being the odd one out all the time.

You 'll have to check ingredients lists very carefully.

Also does the child have EpiPens? I always stayed at parties when mine were this age as I didn't think it was fair on the host to leave them

IronEverything · 06/10/2026 14:02

I'm sorry but I think the mum is seriously bloody rude.

You've offered a suitable alternative due to allergies and she's now making requests for something else based on preference. Unbelievable. If her child can't/won't eat what's provided then she needs to send her with a packed lunch.

It's a kids party, not a restaurant.

Lomonald · 06/10/2026 14:03

Dominoes do chicken wings and wedges she might eat those ?
