Morning All! What's everyone up to today?

lucysmam · 03/10/2026 09:18

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my conservatory spot, alone! Dd2's up but laid doom scrolling in bed with girl cat. She has been down to feed the cats, clean litterbox and put washing on though - I'm sat here with a cold compress on my eye supervising 🙄.

I've been off work most of the week with some kind of lurgy, and now seem to have viral conjunctivitis in my right eye <BIG sigh>.

Unfortunately for me, I do actually need to go shopping today. I've used up as far as I can over the course of the week while I've been rough. I'm going to treat myself to a trip to Asda and wander of their home section for a browse of their bedding 🤣😊. Might even replace the microwave while I'm there.

Dd's staying here to do her college work & wash up. In reality, she'll be washing up as I get home!

Dd1's still in bed - she was out out last night. Home at quite a sensible hour though! She'll message when she's up.

When I get in, I want to browse a few craft supplies for Christmas crafting, then continue my current crochet project.

Leftover Indian takeaway for tea, an hour with my book (eyeball dependent 🙄) and another early night for me.

What about all of you? 🙂

sat in bed with dd watching F1 quali trying to wake myself up with a cup of tea

ShipshapeShore · 03/10/2026 09:31

Oh no, your poor eye. Sounds horrible. New bedding sounds just the cure (well it won't hurt!)

Today I'm helping a relative who moved house yesterday then making a birthday cake for DDs 16th. Feeling the pressure a bit! I bought some flower stamps for fondant icing and some edible pearls and glue so I don't think it can go too wrong.

In the past I would have treated myself to a nice wine later but it seems I can't manage alcohol very well anymore, so I will end the day with a nice decaff tea. Rock & Roll!!

Giggorata · 03/10/2026 09:31

Good morning lucysmam and all.
Sorry to hear about the lurgy and eye and I hope a bedding browse and new microwave are good remedies.

I was up earlier than usual for a GP telephone appointment and I’m doing tea and pills and contemplating the day.
The first thing will be a shower, as we have been on baths for the last week, owing to a leak. I so much prefer showers.
The rest of the day will be laundry and sorting out charity shop items and putting up a coat hook on a door and caulking round a cupboard and putting away the summer dresses.
Sadly, it is also time to take down the hanging baskets, as they are looking very tired.

DH has got steak tonight and so I will have the kind of meal he dislikes, involving pasta, pesto, spinach, tomatoes and Gorgonzola.
Happy Saturday.

Morning morning

After a hectic big teenage birthday weekend last weekend
and a week of everyone feeling not quite ill enough to not go work/school/college but wiped out nonetheless

we are doing normal

nothing extra planned as such
need to go butcher

looking at beef stew with dumplings recipe maybe
still not 100% so need things to cook that are one pan walk away - but never made dumplings before

why won’t my family accept apple crumble and custard as dinner? :-)

Tiddlywinks63 · 03/10/2026 09:33

Good morning @lucysmam , the conjunctivitis is utterly miserable, isn’t it? Can you pop into a pharmacy while you’re out?
I’ve just had my usual avocado toast and a coffee after doing 45 minutes of gardening before it started raining. The first load of washing has finished but I won’t hang it out until I’m sure that the (not forecast) rain has gone. Tiddler is squashed up against me although the rest of the sofa is free. She’s a right madam but I love her 😍
I made a beef casserole yesterday so we’ll have it with either jacket or mashed potatoes, hopefully there’s enough for two days so I will freeze what’s left.
I’m going to start doing some watercolour painting this weekend after many months of not touching anything; I will also bring my Jacobean tapestry downstairs and set it up by the patio doors. I need good lighting and it’s better there than in the little bedroom. I can paint upstairs but not embroider without extra lighting.
I do hope you feel better soon @lucysmam x

JingsMahBucket · 03/10/2026 09:36

Morning @lucysmam et al. Sorry to hear about your conjunctivitis. I last had that about 20 years ago and it was terrible… and crusty. There’s also been a low level lurgy going around as well and I’m trying my darnedest to avoid it.

It’s beautiful, cold, and sunny here after a wet and dark windy day yesterday. I’m just about to crawl out of bed to shower and dress before OH and I head out to brunch. After that, a run to M and S for a few items then back home to do a bunch of personal admin. Paying bills, brain dumping and planning next week, buying train tickets, etc.

Dinner tonight will likely be a roasted chicken and home made mashed potatoes but I’m not sure what else to serve with it yet. Have a good day everyone!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 03/10/2026 09:37

Good morning lucysmam and others. Conjunctivitis is horrible! You have my sympathy. I've had 2 coffees and a slice of toast. The towels are drying nicely and I've stripped the bed, ready to wash when I return from second breakfast at the garden centre with a friend. I will put on the autumn colours duvet cover then too. Then it will be Saturday housework. Have a good day all.

Echobelly · 03/10/2026 09:40

About to go to synagogue - first post reminded me to brew a cup of green tea to drink as we walk.

I want to go to a free exhibition at the Victoria & Albert museum about lost music venues, which features many photos of haunts of my youth and we'll either do that later today or tomorrow.

Somewhere in this I want to help DS sort out a GCSE revision shelf in his room to organise books and notes, and try to get him to write most of the first draft of his drama coursework.

Eire12 · 03/10/2026 09:40

Could you get your shopping delivered instead to save you going out? I'm hoping to lounge most of the day, it has been a hectic week with dcs & I just want to chill. Had some sort of vomiting bug last night too. Looking forward to lighting the fire & watching Strictly later.

CrowsInMyGarden · 03/10/2026 09:41

I’m off to Chester to meet friends. We are going to see an orchestra play Kate Bush songs in the Cathedral by candlelight, and going for a meal first. I’m so excited but when I went to get out of bed this morning both dogs were on the floor in the way so I decided to crawl across the bed holding the cup of tea husband had made me. Don’t know what happened but I wobbled and hit my head on the headboard. It went with a big thump. Isn’t sore but I have a headache. Didn’t drop the tea though! Have taken painkillers and am hoping headache is due to glass and a bit of red wine last night and not anything else. Have a great day everyone and hope your eye improves OP

Simonjt · 03/10/2026 09:44

I hope you’re feeling better soon @lucysmam, there are lots of horrid bugs at the moment.

We’ve got my mum here for three weeks, so we’re off to a garden centre of her choosing today, so we’ll probably have lunch there as well. Our oldest is off to Gothenburg today to watch ice hockey with his team, they left a few hours ago and he was very excited, its long journey so he won’t be home until very late.

We don’t have any evening plans, so we’ll probably be quite lazy. Have a nice saturday.

If you have a food processor make the dumplings in there - flour, herbs and fat first, then water to bind - dead easy

Topsy44 · 03/10/2026 09:53

Good Morning All,

Actually had a lie in this morning and felt like I had a proper night’s sleep for once!

DD and I are off to see my Mum shortly. We missed last week as DD was recovering from a lurgy, seems to be a lot going round at the moment.

Should be back around 5ish, not quite sure to do for tea - have got some left over spaghetti Bol that I could have but may get a takeaway instead for us to watch with Strictly.

Enjoy your day all and hope your eye feels much better soon Lucysmam.

Rainbow1235 · 03/10/2026 09:55

Good morning lucysmam and to u all we are having living room painted today so whilst that’s being done we are goin out for few hours not sure where yet . Hope your eye gets better soon and have a great and safe day all 🫶

lucysmam · 03/10/2026 09:57

@Tiddlywinks63 it's a huge Asda - they have a pharmacy & a whole shelf of eyeball related things. Should be something there to help!

I'm in Scotland with my youngest who has decided that she actually wants a gap year, having already started at uni. Home is very far away and of course this would be the week that I am away with work for a few weeks, so it's all about the arrangements and what shes going to tell her friends etc. It doesn't get easier the older they get!
Apart from that, I am having multiple cups of tea and taking advangtage of some peace and quiet to catch up on life admin. I have just started a new job and have not stopped so my brain is frazzled.

lucysmam · 03/10/2026 10:03

@Echobelly I'll text dd about that exhibition - sounds right up her street!

@Eire12 I could...but I really need some food in the house!

I vaguely remember my grandmother telling me to bathe my eyes with cold tea…. Can’t say if it did any good!

Brendayouknowthatyouremuchtoolazy · 03/10/2026 10:04

Been down, sorted the cats, put a wash on and back in bed. Went home from work early yesterday due to a rubbish virus - I don't have conjunctivitis thankfully but my eyes look dreadful and I keep coughing and spluttering everywhere. Hopefully a quiet weekend will have me raring to go for Monday. Pottering about, maybe an afternoon nap and halloumi/roasted veg wraps for tea.

FayKnights · 03/10/2026 10:14

Morning Saturday Gang

@lucysmam defo get some drops for your poor eye and hope it gets better soon.

I’m just getting ready to meet my uni pals for lunch, we have been pals since the 90s and still like to think we are 18/19 year olds!

Once I get back we are driving down to the South Coast to visit number 2 son at university, take him some bits he forgot to pack and give the dogs a good run on the beach. Staying over tonight and will fill up his cupboards, feed him and his lovely girlfriend before heading back.

I am now craving beef stew and dumplings! That’s for the food processor tip @Denimdreams000 Im looking for meats to cooking some proper Autumn rib sticking food 🤤

Thislittlekitten · 03/10/2026 10:23

Morning everyone.

Hope you feel better soon @lucysmam. Like you I believe, I work with children and mange to pick up so many bugs.

I have had a really busy week with work and college work and early starts so today I was determined to lie in. Got until 730 when DCat demanded food. I usually feed at 6am during week so was happy she allowed me a 1.5 hour grace.

DH has walked the dog, I’ve had a shower and breakfast. Will
pick up DS soon and all go visit my parents.

I have determined today to be a day off of essays and studying so plan to nap and read and eat all day 😂. Tomorrow will be a work day.

Not sure about tea yet. Half thinking of meats, breads, olives, cheese for DH. DD will love that just need something if DS who is a very plain eater.

Enjoy today folks.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 03/10/2026 10:25

Morning all! Sorry about the eye lucysmam.

Had some biscuit tea this morning with quince honey on toast. Did a wash and hung it, duvet has come out of storage and currently is in the wash as I am hoping to dry it in the last of the warm weather - last night was cold!

DD went to bed super early last night, so I'm hoping she isn't coming down with some lurgy. "American Covid" seems to be going around with gastro issues connected, so keep an eye on that if visiting elderly parents!

Got some gardening to do today. Making beds with old bricks, planting 2 peonies, clearing some brambly bits and going to attempt to fit the water butt. which would have been more useful in the summer but I kept putting it off as I have to saw into a drainpipe with a handsaw.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Notonmyland · 03/10/2026 10:25

I woke up far too early and went and made stew in the slow cooker. No beer, so I opened a bottle of red.
The house now smells amazing.

mondaytosunday · 03/10/2026 10:31

Goodness not out of bed yet (though went down earlier to feed the cats). I have been texting my sister who is travelling around Europe and is on a train to Paris from Switzerland and she just told me she’s coming here next week (she lives in the US and did not warn me). So house will need a good going over as she is one of those judgmental clean freaks. One time she was here she even bought me some cleaning equipment (which remains unused several years later). Anyhoo that’s not going to be done today! I have nothing I HAVE to do (other than the house cleaning), so easy peasy day. Contemplating colouring my hair as roots are getting prominent, which will have to be done before my anything else. Can I be bothered? I find if nothing is planned the day drifts! And now we don’t have dogs the day starts late - I’d have walked them by now and got on with things.
I ran out of yarn YET AGAIN - I wish I knew exactly how much I needed for each project, as I’ve already ordered yarn for this one but still not enough. It’s not like I don’t have a huge stash but none are right or match.
Dinner is chicken on naans (Hello Fresh) and last two ever episodes of Shameless!

TheChosenTwo · 03/10/2026 10:33

Sorry to hear about your eye @lucysmam - conjunctivitis is crappy, hope you get the goods to get it treated quickly.

Ive just hung a whites load out, wrapped up some baby presents and now waiting around for the postman who is bringing something that needs signing for. Then going to my mums because she needs some help with something and after that going to meet my new baby nephew, he’s 3 days old!

dh Has taken ds to football and is going to the butchers on his way back. Steak for dinner tonight and a shoulder of lamb for tomorrow.
