Restaurants in Bath (not Gordon Jones, sadly)

Help!
I've booked a few days away next week with DH in Bath.
I've got tickets for the theatre and a pre-theatre meal at the Circus booked for one evening. I thought I had a table booked at Menu Gordon Jones for another evening, but I'd heard nothing back. Rang tonight and they are closed all next week - curses!
I thought about Lucknam Park as I've stayed there before, but DH would prefer somewhere we can walk to rather than a taxi ride.
In a bit of a panic, I booked the Botanist. However, I'm looking at the reviews and it doesn't look good.
Any recommendations for a nice (doesn't have to be Michelin starred or anything) restaurant in Bath, walking distance from the Bird (30 mins at most).
Thanks in advance 😊

Eat at the Bird, the food is lovely and they do fab cocktails! I’ve stayed there a few times

I'd love to, and I think we will one evening, but on the evening we've got free they're fully booked.
Really pleased to hear it's good though - thank you.

If you are open to a meat-free dining experience, Oak is very good - small, cosy, just off the Abbey square. Michelin listed but not starred. There's a fun basement cocktail bar opposite for before or after (the Hideout).

LaMarschallin · 30/09/2026 22:07

That sounds really interesting, @exexpat , thank you.

Pintxo is the best restaurant in Bath. Authentic Spanish amazing vibe. You can’t book but they always find space.

We love this place

The Bathwick Boatman is lovely

Second best is Corkage. Don’t go to the flipping Botanist unless you are 23 and on a hen weekend.

Try Emberwood in the Francis Hotel. It's a fire-led modern British brasserie, and the food and service are excellent. The Architect in the Empire is good as well.

Mulledjuice · 30/09/2026 22:13

we enjoyed Beckford Canteen

Really grateful for all the suggestions that I'm getting. I've cancelled the Botanist booking - really doesn't sound "us" and am exploring the suggestions given.
Thank you ❤️

Upstairs at Landrace is good

Nowdontmakeamess · 30/09/2026 22:31

Sotto Sotto is good and fairly close to where you are staying, or Hudson Steakhouse does amazing steaks. Also the Olive Tree restaurant which is Michelin starred - you are spoilt for choice!

Solina is good and Root Spice in pulteney bridge is a lovely experience

The Architect was great when I last visited Bath

LaMarschallin · 30/09/2026 22:36

I'm really looking forward to this trip now (was a bit down earlier as GJ had fallen through) and feel spoilt for choice.
A couple of places don't have availability and one doesn't open on the night we want although they all look good - you've all got great taste.
@OneoftheWeddingPeople Corkage has a table available when we want. Would you recommend inside, terrace, bar or garden seating?
They seem to have all of those at the moment.

As a pp said Emberwood is very good.

Sottosotto is lovely

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 30/09/2026 23:09

We sat outside in Feb was a little chilly. So sat inside a few weeks ago and were too hot! If it’s temperate outside is fine though if even abit chilly probably better to be inside.

Edited

If it’s warm and lunchtime I’d sit outside, otherwise it’s nice and cosy inside.

Another vote for sotto sotto

Vickim03 · 30/09/2026 23:14

Amerone next door to the theatre is a lovely Italian.

Sometimeslifeishardbutwecarryon · 30/09/2026 23:16

Walcot House. Good for brunch, lunch or dinner. A favourite of several Bath friends.
And of course if you really want to treat yourselves the Priory Hotel or Royal Crescent hotel !
