Sorry if there's another thread already - I did check.

Esther Rantzen has sadly passed away. I very much hope that she went peacefully and in a way that she wanted to. Have such huge respect for her for all of the incredible campaigning that she did through her lifetime.

It’s so sad she couldn’t get there - she said she regrets she couldn’t therefore shield her family from enduring seeing her suffer 😞

and also had to endure unbearable suffering herself in this last period 😞

am amazing women at peace at last 🥰🥰

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 30/09/2026 19:44

Awwwww, so sad. R.I.P. She has been very ill for quite a while. Glad she is at peace now. ♥

LlynTegid · 30/09/2026 19:45

May she rest in peace and thoughts for her children and grandchildren.

I know I did not like That’s Life as a format, but without it there would have been no Childline which is a lasting legacy.

AIiswatchingyou · 30/09/2026 19:45

I hope she had the best death she could achieve. I know its not what she wanted.

One day Esther, one day.

I can't watch that clip of her asking if anyone in new audience owes their life the Mr Winton without crying. I loved That's Life on Sunday evenings.

mtobrokeme · 30/09/2026 19:52

it does not define her

but she believed the women in the end.

Many people knew about Jimmy Saville, but let’s blame the woman, yes?

By any measure she was an inspirational, formidable woman. May she rest in peace.

FFS there are two threads and on both of them someone brings up JS. Have some fucking decorum.

She did so much good in her life.

We all watched That's Life as a family back in the 1970s. That was the first time I came across Victoria Wood as well.

RIP.

I am sad she is gone she was a great proponent of advancing consumer rights.

she set up the child line, and the silver line. A great driver for social issues.

And then she has died we all will and most likely it will not be pleasant. Unless one is taken suddenly by a heart attack or an aneurism, or some other sudden death occurrence.

She was 86 years old so a good inning.

BUT here is the but, she did not go to gravitas to end her life despite having the money to do so.

She lived her life to the last minuet, and good for her.

And yet she has pushed a bill to kill people who are vulnerable, because that was at the time what she thought was what SHE wanted.

So my lament is with a caveat. Her legacy is for ever tainted in going down a wrong road.
