What information would you want in a childminder prospectus?

I'm a childminder and am thinking of putting together a little prospectus/introduction to my service that parents can look at online or I can send them when they first contact me.
If you were looking for a childminder, what kind of information would you want in a prospectus?
I'm thinking maybe some info about me and my family, our usual routine, menu...

Yes,a bit about you, what you did before, your own kids, what's important to you. Example outings, daily timings, how your home is safe. Pets, activities, who helps you. Your relevant qualifications.

Thanks, these are really good suggestions!

What do you mean by how your home is safe?

I meant like answers to questions that I would worry about like...is the kitchen sealed off, do they sleep in a travel cot or somewhere else, have you lots of slippy decking in the garden, how do you manage any risk of water like is a pond fenced off, do you supervise water play closely, What's your approach if another kid touched mine...

Have you installed a fire guard, is the garden enclosed, how do you transport them all around e.g. buggy, reins, car seats

Costs! What your holiday policy is. What happens if you’re sick.

childchildminder · 24/09/2026 22:26

Would you want that information in a prospectus @Pompom12 ? Or would you be more likely to ask questions about any concerns when you visit?

Thats more policy and procedure. I wouldnt have that in a prospectus. You sound very anxious, there needs to be a certain level of trust in leaving your child.

Costs, opening time, any closure dates, and some info about your setting.

childchildminder · 24/09/2026 22:34

Would you want Ofsted report too?
Not that anyone has ever asked for my Ofsted report 😂

Typically how many children you have and age ranges.
A little bit about your home and what resources and space the children have access to.

I’ve never asked, it’s quicker to google and find the report that way than wait for someone to send it over

I don't share my name so mine isn't searchable without my number.

Honestly that would be a bit of a red flag for me. Why don’t you want to be searchable?
Deff put your number on it!

I would want to know if you do trips out of the home and, if so, where to. Thinking of things like the park, library etc. I would want to know if you had any helpers, who would be in the house whilst my children were there and if everyone was DBS checked.

I feel like it's a safety issue, I don't want anyone and everyone knowing which house has a childminder and children in it.

Can’t they get that from googling childminders to find you in the first place though? By the time they google the ofsted report they already no where you are…

Your name should be clear and visible. Address less so.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 25/09/2026 06:58

What school runs you do (and how).
Adults in the household.

Overthebow · 25/09/2026 07:15

I’d want to I’d want to know about the food you serve and that it’s mainly home cooked/non-processed food and snacks. Also pictures of your home and garden where the children would be, daily schedule including any school runs and nap times, a bit about the nap routine including where they sleep and picture of the sleep room, typical outings or play sessions, details about learning and how you incorporate early years learning and preschool activities like circle time and phonics scheme.

Unfortunately that's not an option, it's all or nothing.

I'd want to know about "secure" garden if you have one. And if you have pets (especially large dogs!)

childchildminder · 25/09/2026 08:54

Thanks everyone, great ideas.
