Your ‘emergency supplies/stockpile’.

Has anyone else started stashing a few things away in the event of some kind of ‘national emergency’ and if so, what sort of things are you storing?

I’m certainly not going to turn into a prepper but as I have plenty of storage space, I’ve got two big plastic boxes filled with dried goods (rice/pasta etc) and then some tinned stuff. I’ve also stocked up on batteries, candles and matches and I bought a solar charger. And oh, got two 5 litre bottles of water.

The temptation to go a bit nuts and plan for Armageddon is high! 😂😂 But I’m being sensible and just having enough for the basics to keep us going for about a week. I’m also cycling through the food so it doesn’t get wasted - use a tin of beans and then replace it etc.

Noone here is ”prepping” for Armageddon.

We watch the news and have enough common sense to think for ourselves. And follow the advice from governments in most European countries.

Do you have space under your beds? A book case with space behind the books?

Everyone should check on older family members now too. Make sure they keep up with their prescriptions, have basics in, including easily accessed light in case of power cuts.

The other thing that’s very useful to have a supply of is cash. The shops may have lots of food in but if you can’t pay with card or Apple Pay or whatever, you can’t buy anything. I genuinely can’t remember the last time I used a cashpoint and never carry any cash.

I'll look into this, a quick look actually suggests that an outdoor firepit may be an option, though if I need to keep warm I probably won't want to be outside!

There's no way in my house to have a log burner or multi fuel stove or anything. Which is a shame because they are a useful fairly sustainable source of heat and for cooking!

If that happens, there will be looting and nothing in the shops.

Because there is a very high chance of russian cyber attacks on power/water/banking systems/infrastructure. There is also a chance we could find ourselves at war. There is also likelihood of extreme disruption to food supply due to iran situation (oil and fertiliser issues) and el nino. There is also a general issue with food supply due to climate change.

We are an island. We are an island with poor resilience/back up plans. The shops/warehouses contain 3 days worth of food since everything users just in time ordering systems.

You can't really, just reorder as soon as you're allowed and make sure nothing gets run down.

But if you always buy boxes of 48, surely that doesn't mean you always have 48 in?

I buy in 8 or 12, but I also keep a pack of 24 separately.

I can understand why the NHS does it, to avoid waste, but it's also frustrating just for something as simple as going for a month's holiday and the new script being due halfway through!

For drinking and cooking. It says 10 litres to include hygiene.

But I definitely don't have space for that!

@Negroanybut someone posted 2.5-3litres a day for drinking to survive. Loads don’t drink that now

The gas canister lasts a while - couple of days of tea and heating tins (experience from camping) but personally I have six anyway. I might get six more while I think of it.

No. we are constantly shipping food in. The whole point of this campaign is to encourage people to store their own share so that they are not relying on what little there is in the system if things go wrong,

I've added more loo roll and an extra one ring camping stove plus four extra gas cannisters to my Amazon basket......going to look at solar stuff now!
