I don’t know what to say really, I just want as many women on MN as possible to see this picture.

Particularly Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi‘s wife.

There’s so much going on there.

(I know there’s another thread about the award and it’s subsequent withdrawal, I just wanted to start a thread to focus on the photo)

In some Islamic societies being pregnant with your rapist's child and, sometimes, then breastfeeding will delay being put to death (by stoning) for adultery.

TheGander · 18/09/2026 17:26

Imagine a British guy being given an award by Mohammed Bin Salman in Saudi and turning up with his wife in a bikini. That guy bringing his Niqab’d wife along is a pure power move.

Currently for religious reasons women in the US are being denied abortion, contraception and being made to carry dead foetuses..several have died from these religious wars ..but you are worried about a UK based person covering themselves?

Are you concerned about honour killings in all other societies too?

There are always women who will consent to their own oppression, in many cultures across time women have enforced norms on themselves and the women around them to satisfy mens “needs”. Doesn’t mean they are right or free. Women will force daughters into marriages, take them to have FGM performed despite having the same done and lived with the painful consequences and so on.

I live in the U.K. as does my dd.

TheGander · 18/09/2026 17:35

Yes @Anyahyacinth , hard as you find it to believe, many British women are worried about the efforts by some Muslims to normalise gender segregation, full body covering for women and sharia marriages and divorces allowing men to keep up to 4 “ wives “ (including the repercussions for the taxpayer in terms of child benefits etc). This is not what generations of Western feminists have been fighting for.

Asiana · 18/09/2026 17:36

God have mercy on us, because sharia law won't

Ah yes, the well known Scandinavian practice of killing daughters who have boyfriends.

Happyjoe · 18/09/2026 17:37

Ban all religion.
Make women in charge, every country. Sit back and see if it improves anything. I hope it would.

But yes, why does she cover when it's not a legal requirement in Pakistan? I don't think the niqab is even the norm. Can't ask her.

moto748e · 18/09/2026 17:38

Aren't most people rather more interested in what's going on in their own country than other countries, reasonably enough? We certainly hear enough in the UK about the US to last several lifetimes, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think any woman or girl should be compelled to wear the hijab either, but Mothin Ali's wife isn't swathed from head to foot in black like the fecking Phantom Flan Flinger.

I can certainly listen to the misogyny that she has been coerced into believing

Have heard many justifications for why women covering their face is a positive choice many take part in - not one have I agreed with or will do as I do not support misogyny

British men murder 'their' women all the time for all sorts of spurious and pathetic reasons. As unacceptable honour killings are, at least there is a cultural aspect that needs to be taken into account with these communities. What's the excuse for our lads?

Are you super concerned about the Catholic Church too OP? They have these women…not in leadership positions, but they have to wear coverings over their head and long skirts…seriously sometime women when they get married in a Christian church wear this thing could a veil and …yeah royalty do this too..it covers head and face and body…but get this….the flipping floor too…they have to cover the floor! Don’t get me started about contraception, abortion or protection from STDs like HIV…all not ok ….it’s shocking. Then they don’t le5 you divorce…you are married for LIFE wow it’s a shocker

I know some people don’t like the Catholic, but your post is frankly a bit ridiculous.

If you think nuns have to fully cover themselves from head to toe, I’m guessing you haven’t seen many nuns recently. They have never covered their faces. The last time I saw any nuns (from our local convent) the sisters were dressed up in ABBA costumes and dancing at a tribute concert. Also, they choose to become nuns, it’s not forced upon them. Were you unaware?

Wearing a veil to get married, yeah I wonder why I bothered responding now ..

Incidentally, do you know what Catholics can do if they don’t agree with the church’s teachings on contraception or divorce? They can leave, and the penalty is …nothing.

Maybe look up the penalties for leaving Islam in various countries.
