Found my 1990 Sainsbury's Christmas grocery receipt in an old box

I can't find the old thread so apologies....but I have found another receipt (of mine, like the previous one ha ha)
This is the itemised grocery bill from Sainsbury's, Dec 22 1990 🫨 I paid by cheque ! It must have been our 'big shop' but there's no celebratory turkey so I assume that was ordered separately. Hope the pics don't take too long....
I have no idea why it ended up in my scrap box of tickets, memorabilia etc. If it was a particularly memorable Christmas eludes my memory now 🤷‍♀️

What id give for a 1990 tin of Roses.................this was before they discontinued loads of the chocs

I was wondering if you remember why you bought so many courgettes! Was there a veggie/vegan coming and you had some amazing courgette recipe for them?

It's about £300 in today's money, which sounds like a Christmas shop now.

@bcisagtwt ummmmm....not entirely sure tbh. I am lactose intolerant so would have been buying it for teen and his cereal I guess.
@chewbacca if it had been down to me I would have gone for the quartet definitely ! Which makes me think partner was "having a word" 🤣 We may have had a separate booze order tbh. And I loved that black fish roe for breakfast on C Day, my mum always got it in for me....I still get it now but it's nothing like I remember it.

@Crunchymum oh there were definitely tins and goodies of all sorts ! I imagine I would have been popping into M&S near the office in the run up, and hiding from aforementioned teen 😉 (and myself)

@Cornishbelle and other pp's - that is weird, I didn't notice. If it had been parsnips I would think Sarah Brown nut roast but....maybe I had a penchant for one of those courgette cakes (but I doubt that would have gone down well at Christmas !) 🤭 I was already a fledging vegetarian, and eschewing meat, but loved a 'propah' bird (even favoured capon at one time, until I found out why they are not sold in UK - very popular in France 🥴) Maybe even a soup ?! Tho courgettes aren't the most exciting veg for that !

@FruityFrog dyed fish roe 😉 but it does have the little 'popping' pearls effect to a degree. Absolutely gone off it now.

Yes I agree. Fruit and veg aren't that much more expensive now.

I think we have forgotten how cheap food became in the noughties comapred to earlier.

Lidl and Aldi have a price war in Germany over butter so I’m only paying 1.20€ (£1) for 250g and I pay 0.95€ for a litre of milk - which works out about 46p for a pint - but we can only buy 1 litre cartons and not the larger bottles that can be bought in the UK. However I don’t know what these things cost back in 1990 as I was in the UK then.

Was their champagne any good, OP? It looks like the 2 for 1 offer brought that down to under £9!

Gawd I remember Biactol, too! And that purple font. Wow. Lumpfish caviar was 99p for years. I don’t think it’s that much more now, relatively speaking. £2.99? It does make me realise how little we pay now for some things but a lot for others. This was before those supermarkets were open late. In 1995 we thought it was revolutionary thst we had a Tesco that opened 24 hours and that sold videos. Crazy times. Supermarket deliveries started round about then, too. Now we’d get Christmas shops like that delivered.

Gosh, 1990, nearly 30 years ago. Yet that receipt, that font, paying by cheque… it seems like yesterday!

Weren’t people still using milkmen in the 90s? I didn’t think milk really existed in supermarkets yet - mind you, I was seven in 1990!
