What makes you feel like you look good?

I am in a rut and am fed up. For years I have given up on trying to look nice. Now I just go about my life feeling and looking like an ugly slob. It’s been so long, I’m not even sure how to make an effort. What do you do that makes you feel like you look nice, put together, confident?

Bothering to make an effort makes me feel better. My efforts are probably lacklustre compared to other people's, but I feel better when I've bothered to do my hair and put on my favourite clothes etc.

Bothering to make the effort is probably where I need to start 😂

I am 3 stones overweight, jowly with unruly hair. I have slim beautiful friends so I always feel frumpy with them.

I had a meeting yesterday. I did have a colour and cut a couple of weeks ago so it's easier to do first thing, I wore a new top it's quite stiff fabric with puffed sleeves, more flattering on me than a thin, clingy one. I touched up my make-up (I have a pressed powder that seems to blur my lines, I think it's by Mabelline?) I put some heels on instead of flats. During the meeting my manager mentioned that I always look glam (huh ??!!) Honestly, inwardly, I was so taken aback. I am almost 20 years older than her too. What I am trying to say is, how we view ourselves, sometimes, is not how others view us. Personally, I do think tamed hair has a lot to do with how we scrub up, even little make-up can make a huge difference and well fitting clothes.

If you hate all your clothes I'd maybe start with that. I used to hate all my clothes, mainly due to the fact I was massively overweight. All my clothes were what I could get that would fit me and didn't make me actively cry, rather than ones I actually liked. Having lost the weight and needing to get an entire new wardrobe, now all my clothes are ones that I like or love. Crucially, I don't feel like wearing them is any effort as they are also all comfortable and functional.

Do you have a style you'd like to emulate, someone that you like how they dress, or similar? What do you wear that you like the most? I redid my wardrobe almost entirely from Vinted, eBay, second hand shops rather than from new so it doesn't have to be a lot of money.

Skin, hair, nails, eyebrows. I am v v low maintenance and veer into the grotbag zone often but even then you can fake it with dry shampoo, rosy cheeks, tidy nails, stain free clothes and some perfume.
The only thing I pay for is a monthly BIAB gel infill with a bright colour.
Skin - I just use a dab of cream blusher. Benefit original BeneTint is fab.
Brows - I pluck and fill them in to a nice shape but nothing trendy
Fragrance - I feel better when I smell of laundry. I use Soap & Glory Pink body spray day to day. I do have an expensive perfume for proper “dress up as grown woman” days.
Cool trainers elevate too.

I’ve faked it so well that had compliments whilst wearing PJs under a coat on a school run - sunglasses and lippy work magic!

@SilenceInside I definitely need to address my wardrobe. I don’t really follow fashion or celebs or anything though so have no idea what style I would go for. I mostly just walk around the shops thinking “who wears this shit?!”

I’ve always avoided blusher as I get rosacea so normally try to avoid anything more reddening! But then if I’ve put foundation or anything on, I look flat and tired. Not sure how to manage that? Also the bags under the eyes 🙈

Love this 😁
