Does he fancy me?

There’s a guy I really fancy and I am sure he likes me too, but as he is quite a bit younger than me I am feeling extra cautious about reading the signs as I don’t want to make a complete tit of myself. I am worried in case he doesn’t fancy me but knows I fancy him and is taking the piss (I don’t think he is, but this doubt is stopping me from making the first move).

Would you say he fancies me based on the following:

We have had a lot of eye contact and smile at each other every time.

I have caught him looking at me and quickly looking away.

I asked him for help with something silly a few days ago (I didn’t need help really!) not exactly related to his role and he obliged and we had good eye contact and smiles again for the short time this happened.

A couple of days after this, I caught him looking at me from a distance and we smiled et each other and he turned around and I could see his reflection in the window - he had a massive grin on his face. He later stood by the window smiling at me while I stood outside packing my bag.

Last night I was about to leave the shop and he stood in quite a prominent position and we looked in each other’s eyes and I said bye to him and gave him a smile and he did the same back, then closed his eyes, then opened them looking right into my eyes again while smiling. No one has ever done this to me, and I’m a bit confused as to what it means, but it looked sexy and cute. What does this mean???

I should add that he seems a little shy, also that I often have my children with me when I visit the shop which obviously creates a bit of a barrier potentially to any flirting.

So, do you think he fancies me?

Being realistic, even if this man does fancy you, that doesn't mean he's up for dating or a relationship - he might already be in a happy relationship.

A happy relationship doesn't stop you fancying other people, it just means if you're a decent person you don't act on it.

Could he be the Chesire cat?

Does he fancy me?
Aegyo · 04/09/2026 18:46

I’m not sure what to do now, but think I will just see if anything develops over the next week or so, or if I have the confidence to give him my number.

The next week or so? Fuck me. I will probably expire from the anticipation.

Or maybe not.

Over the next week! Exactly how often do you go in this shop?!

Have you considered the security guard is watching you because you’re there so often and he thinks you’re up to something? You say you keep catching him watching you. That’s what security guards do

Chatterlyssecret · 05/09/2026 10:17

I think he will be a married man that smiles at every opportunity he sees a woman looking at him. some women go week at the sight of a uniform.

Sidebeforeself · 05/09/2026 10:24

Also..he’s seen you with your kids so he doesnt know if you are single

Neutraln · 05/09/2026 10:28

Imagine if a man wrote this about a woman who worked in a shop and was being polite and doing her job 🤣 he’s making eye contract with you as you’re looking at him and he can’t be rude as it’s his job. Stop making the chap feel uncomfortable!

FateAmenableToChange · 05/09/2026 10:31

Security guards generally scowl and look at customers suspiciously. There is certainly no pressure on them to smile & engage. So yes I’d say he likes the look of you.

Delphiniumandlupins · 06/09/2026 15:14

Well he sounds more smiley than most shop security guards but maybe that's just his temperament. If he's 'hot' and 10-15 years younger I wouldn't really expect him to be interested and swapping phone numbers with customers is probably not acceptable.

Cotopaxi · 06/09/2026 15:44

If you keep going into that shop and checking him out, he is going to start thinking you are an habitual shoplifter, trying to distract him from doing his job properly.

NasiDagang · 06/09/2026 15:55

A love story, how cute.🤗

Aintgointogoa · 06/09/2026 16:05

@Aegyo well my dear let me give you a little anecdote of mine...there was a building site just around the corner from the end of my street, and one day as I trotted by on my way to the tube I looked up at the chap seeing the heavy traffic in and out of the gate and oh my goodness me.....he was so very very tall, blond, so very handsome...nice smile ! from that day on I made a little bit more of an effort every day and even left 10 minutes earlier 😉 Smiles, more smiles, eventually some chat....as I came round the corner I would see him unfurling his long legs from where he had one bent behind him on the fence, and was ready to greet me. Heart starts to race 🤭 One day, I made up my mind, put a track on my iPod (back in the day !) and asked him if he wanted to hear the track I had on - we had shared a bit of chat about what I was listening to etc - and he said of course. The track was 'Let's spend the night together' by the Stones. He grinned. And that was that....an idyll that lasted about 2 months, before the site shut and he moved on. He was gorgeous, not just to look at, but so lovely with heart sore me. And he was quite a bit younger but I never asked.
I had figured that if it was a shake of the head, I could always take the longer route round to the tube without passing him 🤣
So if you have a back up plan, ie somewhere else to shop, I would say go for it !

FieryA · 06/09/2026 16:11

The precision with which you noted his eye movements and then the analysis you have done by asking Google is mind boggling. It all sounds very silly. All he has done is supposedly smile often and you have taken that to the next level. At least make conversation with him first, before imagining scenarios.

Random321 · 06/09/2026 16:14

He's a security guard - he's supposed to be watching people!

Smiling is just customer service.

He probably thinks you are crazy.

WorthyBlueHare · 06/09/2026 16:52

Do you have mates who shop there? Ask if they’re getting the same treatment.

NiftyKoala · 06/09/2026 17:02

TheChosenTwo · 04/09/2026 13:53

I feel like I’ve just read a transcript of a conversation my friend and I would have repeatedly. Aged 14.

I was just thinking this is the conversations that I hear when my teen has a sleepover .

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 06/09/2026 17:07

Ok if you think he’s up to 15 years younger it could be significantly more.

correct me if I’m wrong, but you fancy him and all thays happened is you smiled at each other, when you’re in the shop with your kids. Have you even spoken to him?

worldshottestmom · 06/09/2026 17:35

I would say that he probably does, but is highly unlikely to make a move on you for a few reasons; asking out a customer is highly unprofessional and he could possibly lose his job (should you react badly), you are with your children and doesn't want to come off as harassing you etc, or he might just be really shy and may be thinking the same about you (that its all in his head etc).

I would hand him my number and say "maybe instead of smiling at eachother, we should talk instead". If he doesnt want to, shop elsewhere. If he does, then I'm sure you'll have many happy smiley babies together lol

Hatty65 · 06/09/2026 18:08

I think if you are 15 years older than him and with your kids in his shop then it's unlikely he 'fancies' you. He's just doing his job.

He's possibly not even single; you are just a customer.

I just Google searches the eye closing and smiling thing, and this is what came back:

A man smiling, closing his eyes, opening them, and smiling again is usually a friendly, playful, or polite gesture.

What This Might Mean

  • Friendly acknowledgment: He is just saying hello or acknowledging you in a warm way.
  • Playfulness: Closing his eyes for a second can add a flirty or lighthearted vibe to the smile.
  • Daydreaming or savoring the moment: Sometimes people close their eyes briefly when they feel a sudden happy emotion.
  • Awkwardness: He might feel a little nervous and is reacting by closing his eyes to reset before looking at you again.

I wouldn't rely on asking Google considering you can put in illness symptoms and it could tell you that you're either dead or dying. Honestly you may aswell tell him you fancy him and ask if he fancies going out for a drink or something. He can only say yes or no but you'll know either way if he's interested

Tralalalala88 · 06/09/2026 18:49

Smiling and eye contact is a good sign but you would need more evidence like conversation you have had with him for example . It’s not enough to go on
