I'm 57 and he was a staple on TV when I was growing up, I loved him ☹️

Loved watching him in Dick Turpin!

He was like Richard Beckinsale. Weirdly, I looked him recently so knew he'd been in a nursing home for a while. Sad.

If Tessa Wyatt left Tony Blackburn for him, is that the same man Tony had his breakdown on the radio about, wanting Tessa back? I love Tony as well.

A pp mentioned Diane Keen - blimey, she was such a 70s TV staple.

There's photos of him with George Layton. I did have a crush on GL. Ageing is so cruel as GL looks so healthy next to Richard and they were the same age. 😞

Definitely a face of 70s and 80s telly. We watched Me and My Girl as a family. I don't remember him from anything else, but know he was popular.

Me and My Girl was on in the "80s with Tim Brooke-Taylor too. Maybe you saw that. Some episodes are on YouTube.

Sad to hear, I had not idea he had been ill for so many years. Richard O’Sullivan and Richard Beckinsdale were my childhood crushes.

So sad. Another 50-something who fancied him in Dick Turpin (and also Adam Ant in Stand and Deliver, what was it about the early 80s and highwaymen?) Absolutely loved it - I still remember the theme tune.

I knew he was 82 and had a stroke a long time ago now but he’ll always be Robin to me. I didn’t watch Man About the House at the time but have been watching it on tv recently (it’s always on!) it’s shockingly un pc though.

I saw The Malta Story for about the millionth time the other day. He was a 9 year old boy playing a Maltese boy. Then later in The Young Ones with Cliff.

I thought he had already passed away for some reason, sad.

When I had my son three years ago I got really into Man About the House on youtube when I was getting the hang of breastfeeding. It put me in a positive frame of mind and I didn't struggle at all. Happy times.

I was more aware of Paula Wilcox and Sally thomsett as performers before, but quickly came to love him too. Great actor.

I was born towards the end of the 80s but I'm such an old soul. I love classic film and TV. I really relate to the stuff of my parents and grandparents generation. It's so comforting.

I think he was only on his lste 50's when he had a stroke. Lots of love for him on X.
It's surprising how many things he was actually in.
I adored Robin's Nest, he was probably my first crush.

Me too but think they've taken them off again? Hopefully will reinstate.

You dodged a bullet there! I also wrote to Jiml'll Fix It (age 8ish) asking to dance with Bucks Fizz! I was heartbroken I never got a response but I'm hindsight I was lucky!!!! 😱

Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne has written a post on Instagram celebrating Richard O'Sullivan. She grew up knowing him as a he was a friend of her parents- it seems he was lovely in real life too.

Sad to hear this. I saw him when I was a child, as Buttons in Cinderella in the 1970's at the London Hippodrome and met him backstage a few times as my mother was seeing one of the 'co-stars' in it! I'd go and sit with Brian Murphy and Yootha Joyce whilst she pursued her love interest in another dressing room and Richard O'Sullivan would pop in now and then and have a chat with us and get me drinks and food!!! All quite surreal really

They have currently been showing Dick Turpin on Talking Pictures on Saturdays, and I have/ and still am watching them.

Man About The House is on That's TV channel in the evenings.

I remember watching Waking Ned and being surprised that the waiter from Robin's Nest actually had 2 arms in real life.
