I'm 57 and he was a staple on TV when I was growing up, I loved him ☹️

He was so lovely and funny! Loved Man About The House and Robin's Nest. Once dated a guy that looked like him too. RIP 😢

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 04/09/2026 14:35

Oh I loved Dick Turpin and Man About The House. Rest in Peace.

Tryagain26 · 04/09/2026 14:42

Can anyone remember him in Doctor in the House? He played the horrible snooty one in that always trying to get the others in trouble and I struggled to accept him as a very different character in Man about the House! 😂
He was a good actor though and had a very long career starting acting as a a child.
I think he had been in poor health for a long time.

OneBusyFinch · 04/09/2026 14:44

So sad to hear this. He was also in Cleopatra starting with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor

Enko · 04/09/2026 14:45

Was he in a film about a village Brass Band that was consistently out of tune?

No that was Robin Nedwell and Diane keen. It was the Shillingbury Tales and it’s often on TalkingPictures.

iloveanearlynight · 04/09/2026 15:31

I loved Me and My Girl. Watched some on You Tube recently. He was a great actor.

Abhannmor · 04/09/2026 15:37

He was very big in the 70s and 80s. In my head I mix him up with John Alderton from Please Sir etc!

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 04/09/2026 15:38

Oh no aw bless him may be rest in peace a real icon to us Boomers

ruethewhirl · 04/09/2026 15:39

Ah, sad news. I've been watching repeats of Man About The House recently.

EscapeTheCastle · 04/09/2026 17:06

Like others here I loved him in Dick Turpin. So handsome. I remember running around the school playground reenacting an episode we had all seen at the weekend.
For some reason I also remember a lot about Me and My Girl.
I think he was living in the showbiz carehome which sounds wonderful.
Funny how TV shows can bring up nice memories and when a star from your childhood passes away those memories all come back.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/09/2026 17:07

Yes I’m 45 and used to love Man about the House!

Jimsaidpeoplearestrange · 04/09/2026 17:13

Oh that’s sad. Remember him from my childhood

dustabsorber · 04/09/2026 17:20

Man about the House - I remember that

Gizzasec · 04/09/2026 17:26

So sad. I loved Man About The House, it was kind of innocent. There was a fab scene where Robin is showing Chrissie how to drive, but sat on the sofa, with tin cans as the pedals. He describes what's happening on the road & she's got to react appropriately, which ofc she can't, so he's shouting Spam! Spam! Beans! & she's just getting more & more confused. Silly, but good fun. I used to watch it as a kid & think, are grownups allowed to have that much fun? I want to be like them when I get older.

TooOrangey · 04/09/2026 17:28

I remember him, I’m 53. Not sure what from as I doubt I’d have been watching his shows in the 70s as I’d have been too young. They must’ve been repeated.

My son and I watched 2 episodes of Man About the House a few weeks ago. He was incredulous at how unfunny and sexist it was. And refused to watch another. Even the opening credits were a shocker. Different times, son.

Richard Sullivan in Man about the House, which spawned the spin off George and Mildred.
Back when comedy was still funny.
Robins Nest with Tessa Wyatt. Didn't she leave Tony Blackburn for Richard?
Correct me if im wrong

Exactly, such easy and pleasant watching I can still watch countless times and laugh .
A wonderful time in British history, not like today

LlynTegid · 04/09/2026 17:39

May he rest in peace and thoughts for his family and friends who mourn.

NewGirlInTown · 04/09/2026 17:43

Lovely, lovely man and a fine actor, One of the old school.

SabreIsMyFave · 04/09/2026 17:48

Awww what a shame ... Flowers

Loved him in everything I saw him in. Man About The House, Robin's Nest, Me And My Girl. and the old Doctor films he was in. Always seemed affable and cheeky. My mum used to have a bit of a crush on him! ❤

R.I.P. Richard......

RemindMeIn15Minutes · 04/09/2026 17:50

I loved Man About the House and Robin’s Nest.

Sad.

mum2jakie · 04/09/2026 17:56

Loved Me and My Girl! Sounds like he has been in poor health for a very long time.

Gonksmum · 04/09/2026 18:06

Yes, he was very popular and quite handsome in the 70s/80s. Loved all those shows he was in. It seems a lot of our childhood celebrities are dying lately.

Ohyoudodoyou · 04/09/2026 18:14

one of my first tv crushes as a little girl along with John Duttine and James Bolan (watching grown up TV with mother, obviously!) He was so absolutely spot on as a '70's tv heartthrob, his whole cheeky chappy demeanour. Sad to hear of his death as it's another end of an era for us.

Oh thank you for mentioning this, I'd like to watch that series again so I know where to look for it. 😄
