I’m already feeling down that summer is ending. I find winter so hard. I love being outside and walking, being stuck inside depresses me. I have winter walking gear and get out but it’s not the same in the grey dull skies.

Having a dog has changed how I see the winter - I wouldn’t go for a walk in the rain before having a dog but actually enjoy it (then coming home to a hot shower and cup of tea). We also socialise more in the winter - games nights with friends mostly.

I agree. I have all the wet weather gear but far prefer walking in the long days in the sun in light clothing. The dog is also much happier running about in the woods and playing in the river than on-lead walks in the dark.

I felt like this last year. I read the book Wintering which really worked in changing my mindset. It's about how Scandinavians make the most of winter and actively enjoy it despite near darkness.

Oh that book is on my wish list! I’ve only heard really good things about it!

No 360, I love autumn and winter. Lots of people seem to not like it though so I started this thread.

At the risk of sounding like Pollyanna, I’ve never taken seasons, even the ones I’m not so crazy about, for granted again after living in a part of the ME where there really aren’t any, it’s just ‘hotter’ vs ‘disablingly hot’ vs ‘less hot’, and no change in vegetation or length of daylight. There was something incredibly depressing about it.

When I had to get DD to the station by 7.30 it was hard getting up in the dark (and waiting for the council to unlock the gates to the park so I could walk my dogs). But I love love love Autumn and winter.

But your thread title seems to indicate that you don’t like autumn winter. And you’re right, it’s a 180, which is what that poster queried. Bit odd to start a thread just because others hate it - why ask them to join you?

TBF, this thread, despite the confusing OP situation, is about dreading autumn/winter. Maybe step back from digging at those who are expressing the fact that they hate A/W!

I’ll be honest, I wish I hadn’t done it.

I was on an ‘autumn and winter lovers’ thread. People came on and said ‘no that’s horrible, all of it is horrible’.

So I start a thread for them (because no one else did) for those who hate autumn and winter. And that’s not good enough either.

So it seems you can disagree vehemently on either type of thread, so I’ll leave you to enjoy the threads. (Not you personally, ‘you’ = people.) I’m busy with other stuff so unfortunately won’t be on either thread any more.

I just thought it would be nice for A/W lovers to have their hot chocolate and blankets and rain appreciation thread, and I also thought it would be nice for S/S lovers to have their sun and spring flowers and light evenings appreciation thread.

Something something, nice things.

Also, I don’t really understand what’s confusing. The title is self explanatory. I have only commented when directly tagged. And posting little screenshots (don’t know who did that) isn’t tagging. I don’t get a notification that way.

And for those who don’t like it or think it’s ’a bit odd’, well there are other threads here if you prefer.

Ok, that’s probably a fair response.

I think the reason it’s “confusing” is because of the was it was worded in the title. Versus what you’d posted elsewhere - not saying it’s right, but people will often search “your” previous posts and then find something contradictory.

Anyways, I’m not looking forward to relentless grey, I hate it. But I can understand that some are looking forward to no more heatwaves.

In an ideal world, seasons would behave properly 😂.

Spring - gentle blue skies, temperature slowly rising so that a day weeding in the garden means no coat, a light sweater and comfy trousers. Bulbs peeking through. Appreciation of a few minutes of extra daylight creeping in. A gentle easing into summer - not what we had this year where I am. It went from shit, cold, rainy, heated throw for too long to “fucking hot”. And light rain every night once I’m in bed.

Summer - constant blue skies, temps anywhere between 20-27, gentle breeze. And light rain on some nights when I’m in bed.

Autumn - gentle blue skies, a very slight chill in the air but not too much, crisp leaves, bit of mist over the fields. And light rain some nights when I’m in bed.

Winter - can bugger off 😂

this is very odd. You actually love autumn and winter? But made out fairly excessively how much you hated it in this Op?

I detest winter. In the summer I can have a sunny walk before work and then spend hours in the garden after work. In the winter I barely see the garden. Dark mornings - hateful. Dark evenings - it’s like you’ve been robbed of a whole chunk of life each day. Driving in winter - horrible and increasingly so with ridiculously dazzling headlights. And all of this while cold!!
The summer has been utterly fabulous though!

I like the months from now until January. Bright crisp mornings, candles, feeling cosy at home. What I hate is Jan, Feb, March when it seems to just be grey from morning till night. Dark when you get up, barely gets any lighter then dark again. The weather really makes such a difference to my frame of mind, motivation, how I eat etc. I don’t mind the cold or even the early evening darkness if it could just be bright during the day. It’s the sheer lack of bright daylight that makes such a difference

I adored this summer. Im in NI so not quite as many heatwaves as you guys in England but we had quite a decent summer for once with not too much rain.

But oh I was so jealous of your gotter temperatures. I could live in high 30s all year round.

My SAD lamp is back at my bedside. 30 mins in the morning with a cup of coffee before everyone else gets up. And if uta dry another coffee outside after they've left in the morning. I try and keep this up most days through the winter wrapped up as much as I can be. But the darkness and cold suck the life out of me.

I always enter September with enthusiasm for a "new year" but it fades quickly as the cold and damp set in.

Going to try harder this year to keep the momentum going. But once the clocks go back it all seems to go downhill.

I like Nov and Dec even if it's damp and dark.

Jan is hard. February is worse.

Socialising happens in Nov and Dec. By Jan everyone is broke. By Feb, it's gone past the point where you can just grin and bare it.

March gets better. It's bulbs. They add colour to the grey. You know the end is in sight when you see the splashes of colour and the darkness starts to abate.
