Random things you take on holiday.

UK or abroad?
I'm trying to think if there's anything i need to take away that I may need.
I've got -
Pegs for our wet swimwear.
Note pad and paper - as at night I often can't switch off so writing down things helps.
Nail clippers / scissors.

Peppermint teabags, because even the fancy hotels we generally stay in never have them in the room.

I’ve always traveled with a Swiss Army knife. It means I have on hand a sharp knife, a pair of scissors, a bottle opener, a can opener, a corkscrew (extremely important) and a screwdriver.

In self-catering one of those disposable shower caps to put over the smoke detector. This is because using the oven or toaster (and not remotely burning anything) sets them off. And this time, my rice cooker.

And a hoofpick. You never know when you might be able to help out a horse, pony, donkey or indeed zebra with a stone in their hoof.

Boxed inflatables for the pool (bought for £7.99 at Lidl) and a small electric pump to blow them up. Saves getting hot and flustered abroad.

It depends on the type of holiday and the destination, but most times I take with us (family of 3, one child):

• ziplock bags (useful for snacks, wet costumes, collections of rocks/shells/whatever etc)
• a tupperware (mostly to be used for snacks that could get squashed/smashed in a ziplock)
• an empty reusable water bottle
• tweezers
• if a B&B or if we stay with friends, faceclothes to make sure I am not staining the towels with my make up (better if very old ones, so I just bin them before leaving)
• non-perishable emergency food (think crackers/biscuits/dry olives and maybe a couple of apples/oranges). Always handy when DS is hungry at the wrong time/we are late or tired to go out and look for food.

Massive over packer here! If I'm going abroad I always take:
4 plug extension
Salad dressing (we always go self catering and eat a lot of salad!)
Sweetener (for my coffee!)
Silicone pint mugs (because hotels and other accommodation always have shit little glasses!)
Coffee
Some of those very small bottles of concentrated squash
Travel wash
Sudoku book and pen
If I'm going to be getting to the destination late - some beef jerky/apples, a can of beer and a can of mixer for my duty free gin!
Bottle of water
Spare underwear
Paracetamol
Travel sized washing up liquid, tea towel and washing up sponge
Sachets of salt and pepper saved from pubs!

I'm sure there's more! 🙈

Plasters, paracetamol. Antiseptic cream. Tissues. Wipes.

I dint think these items are random are they? Don’t most people take this stuff in holiday? 🤔

We have a house there. They have supermarkets and pharmacies and butchers and greengrocers. And the most amazing bakeries/cake shops.

Actually their greengrocers are excellent. I don’t always buy my veg or fruit at the supermarket, I go to the greengrocers on the way back from the supermarket, when I can be bothered, which to be fair, is only when my mother is in the car, as she insists. Otherwise it’s too hot to do so.

We usually holiday in the middle of nowhere in SE Asia (diving holidays).

We always take a plethora of medication, including an emergency dental repair kit

Tea towels, bin bags, ziplock bags, Tupperware, loo roll, hand wash, kitchen sponge and washing up liquid are key for caravan hols. Yes to packet clips, sadly forgotten this time.

I nearly brought a shoe rack this holiday as the space is so tight they always get in the way but the boot was too full.

DDs and 9&12 now have their own clothes bags and car bag, and I always turn a suitcase into a dirty washing basket and pack all the dirty things in the one suitcase for the return.

I took a tiny washing up liquid and half a scourer as our water bottles once turned a bit “swampy” and gross one holiday. This was genius as I could clean the hotel room glasses and cups properly- I’m always a bit dubious that housekeeping just sort of swill them about!? Also a pack of surface wipes.

The handiest thing I found is a tiny pair of scissors. I have also invested in a collapsible Tupperware box from Aldi and I adding bag clips to the list.

A black plastic/ paper tablecloth ( halloween ones from the £1 shop) and sellotape, makes a great black out blind.

Sturgeron in case you get urgent d&v, it stops the v. Also pegs and dental floss and freezer bags.

We made three bloody trips to the pharmacy this year on holiday as we’d not bought blister plasters, paracetamol or bite cream and child got a blister and husband and child got bitten and then I had excruciating period pains.

oh must be me with my over cautiousness 🤦🏻‍♀️

My essentials are tea bags, antihistamine ointment and a very thin bed cover or sheet because I'm menopausal and get too hot under a duvet.
