RAIN

We have actual rain.
As in, lots of it, chucking it down, pouring, a deluge...

We have not had any significant or even measurable rainfall since what feels like forever.
The grass all around has been dead, crispy brown for months.
The trees have shed their leaves in an effort to cope under extreme stress, under what is known as 'False Autumn' (yes I watched the news this morning!)

This rain feels healing.
The DCs were singing Rihanna's 'Umbrella' in the car!

(I know, I know, I'll be back on here in a few weeks complaining how now it's started it won't stop 😄 but for now, I feel joyous!)

We've had light rain for four hours. For the first time in months, the water butt is actually full and no collecting household water to water plants😅

We desperately need rain, but not too much heavy continuous rain though, otherwise they'll be flooding as ground won't soak it up. Apparently one of the canals up north has had flooding, and that's with lower summer temperatures and a little more rain.

Rituelec · 27/08/2026 10:35

Nothing here on Suffolk coast

MyGallbladderIsAFucker · 27/08/2026 10:37

We've got absolutely tons and it's fucking brilliant. We are spending the day in making dens and watching warm cosy things. Bring on autumnal months 🍁 🍂

SleepingisanArt · 27/08/2026 10:40

Lol we have weather warnings for heavy rain and possible flooding. There was some light rain overnight (ground was damp) but now the sun is out in a bright blue sky. So I'm patiently waiting.....

HelpMeGetThrough · 27/08/2026 10:43

We’ve had a bit. Has pissed me off to be honest.

PrincessofWills · 27/08/2026 10:47

We also have rain thankfully 😎

Cotopaxi · 27/08/2026 10:51

Hooray! It has been raining steadily here since early morning. You can almost hear everything in the garden breathing a sigh of relief.

I've taken my houseplants outside and they are standing on the patio enjoying themselves.

Xiaoxiong · 27/08/2026 10:52

We've just had our first rain since 9th June!! We will need weeks of regular rain for nature to recover though...

I will never take rain for granted ever again.

HoraceCope · 27/08/2026 10:54

i dont know what to wear o n my feet!

Violetdeparma · 27/08/2026 10:56

We had a little , more than anything since June but no proper deluge yet

OneZanyCat · 27/08/2026 10:57

We finally have light rain - I couldn't see it but could hear it but got DH to check it wasn't a mirage and he confirmed light rain.

DancingonmyOwn88 · 27/08/2026 10:58

Loads in SE London 🎉

I’m all for it but it’s not the best timing on a personal level. DS was sick last night and I have 6x sheets and towels that previously dried within a couple of hours outside strung up everywhere in doors 😩

ElegantDress · 27/08/2026 10:59

We had some, but not enough to be any use. It was nice to hear it through the open window when I woke up. I know we need it but I missed sitting on the patio for my breakfast this morning.

RaraRachael · 27/08/2026 11:15

23 degrees in NE Scotland- one of the warmest days we've had all summer

MellonFellon · 27/08/2026 11:17

It's chucking buckets here and already had a flood warning ⚠️

daisyydaisyy · 27/08/2026 11:18

Still waiting in Leeds! Says it’s going to start in 9 minutes. Bring back the green grass!!!

MsGreying · 27/08/2026 11:30

If you're after nice rain songs.. Ladysmith Black Mambazo - Rain, Rain, Beautiful Rain is lovely.

AgnesMcDoo · 27/08/2026 11:38

Come to Scotland. It never stops bloody raining.

Id love a bit of sunshine

paomara · 27/08/2026 11:39

I got out the waterproof trainers and the light rain jacket last night. I love walking in the rain as long as it's not windy.

Wonkybaby · 27/08/2026 11:40

We have had rain (SW London) but it’s still hot and humid! And also crap for drying washing, we’re just back from holiday and I’ve mountains to do.
But it’s still preferable to the insane heat. We have been sweltering here since May and it’s been awful.

WildWindLandscapes · 27/08/2026 11:45

Yeeessss! We have RAIN! Real, steady downpour rain which has set in and not stopped for the last 2 hours (east midlands).
Bloody marvellous, best thing that's happened since end of May.
I'm one of those who hates the summer, hates the sunshine, doesn't like it hot and dreads June/July/August every year. This year has been particularly upsetting.
I've been at the window actually watching rain falling, just watching it.
Hoping we'll have a wet and stormy autumn and a cold, dark snowy winter. And no, I never, ever complain about the cold/wet/fog/frost/snow.....

BigJanette · 27/08/2026 11:50

Hope your DS feels better soon @DancingonmyOwn88

I'm also pleased I got a free car wash! It's not been worth getting it cleaned all summer so it's been covered in dusty dirt for months!
It just feels such a relief to have a bout of proper rain after all the "promises" from the Met Office in the last couple of weeks, it just always seem to pass over us.

We have had some today which has been lovely. I won't even moan if it is raining when I am catching the bus tomorrow morning! So used to seeing everything dead or dying this Summer. Rain is welcome!

Buzzer3555 · 27/08/2026 12:20

We are in huddersfield and it's bucketing down. Lovely

I could have been doing with a week of the heatwaves everyone was moaning about.
It was a shit summer even by our standards.
