What did you do with your engagement ring after divorce?

For anyone who got divorced, what did you do with your engagement ring?

Mine wasn't the most expensive thing in the world but still, it's platinum with a diamond. It seems crazy to keep it (plus, it could look sentimental when it's not) but also somehow it seems mercenary to sell. But I've been divorced for 4 years now, separated for 9.

Is it common to sell it, maybe put the money into a S&S ISA for DC, or something?

let it with a Hatton Garden shop on sale or return, about a year later got a few hundred pounds for it then many years later got something for the gold value of the wedding ring.

I pawned it and used it for DDs school trip that the nasty ex had said he didn’t have funds for, as usual.
she had a great time !

FieldOfPoppies · 26/08/2026 17:13

I sold mine along with wedding and eternity rings. The money just went into an account I use to pay bills.

Mancity08 · 26/08/2026 18:56

Had it took of the shank and had it hung from a necklace

I'm not divorced but would have it made into something else, maybe a necklace or earrings if it had 2 identical stones. You'll get a fraction of the price paid if you sell it so worth remodelling if you can afford to pay for it.

Planning to give them to my two daughters when they’re older

Whyherewego · 27/08/2026 21:25

Lost it and claimed on insurance and got a nice payout !

TeenLifeMum · 27/08/2026 21:25

My friend sold hers and bought a Louis Vuitton handbag. I always liked that idea (although I’d go for a mulberry bag).

Mine was more sentimental than costly, and were hand made. I kept it, and my dress, for a while, but finally threw them and the letters away. That felt right, and I've never regretted it.

I can’t imagine I’d get much ££££ for my rings. They are on my jewellery spike and I keep thinking that I’ll maybe add my mum’s ring and one of my exH’s rings (long story) and get a jewellery to make me something new with them..

MissSmiley · 28/08/2026 17:05

I had the diamond made into a necklace for my daughters 18th and the gold from the two wedding rings and my engagement band (with the agreement of my exDH) made into two signet rings for our boys. They love them.

SewYellowLikeButter · 28/08/2026 17:08

My mum had hers converted into a necklace and earrings

RaraRachael · 28/08/2026 17:13

Took the wedding, engagement and eternity rings to Ramsdens and had a nice weekend away on the proceeds.

LillieLoo · 28/08/2026 17:22

Sold it and bought a sofa.

Thanks everyone who replied. I might look into getting it remodelled. I was also discussing this thread with DP who was surprised to hear that I love wearing rings (as I currently don't wear any) and said he'd buy me a ring, now that he knows. So that's a nice outcome.
