I need to moan about myself.

I have about 18? Blinds that i need to put up. They have been stacked in my living room for at least 2 months.

I need to hang the doors in my storage unit. Been like that for about 2 months.

I need to put 3 chests of drawers together they have also been sitting there for about 3 months.

I need to moved ds bedroom contents down to his new bedroom.

I need to catch up on washing as always and general house work.

Oh yeah and I need to fit a new stair carpet

I bought ds a massive bundle of clothes from vinted. But managed to mix it up with his old clothes now I don't know whats what.

Energy is zero right now. It normally picks up a bit in the afternoon. So in a while I will put some music on and at least do something. Ds wants us to build something together. I don't even know where my tools are probably spread all over the house not where they should be. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a screw driver in the freezer

Our two local (ish) tips have been closed since July and no date given for re opening.
Our local (ish) charity shops are currently not taking donations.
I could weep.
We've got so much stuff for the tip (garden project and house project) and some really good stuff for the charity shops from dhs late uncles house.
Sigh.
I'm pottering around doing what I can, but the piles of stuff is getting to me 😕

Anglo collection for charity stuff

Pay a carpet fitter to do the stair carpet. Fitting carpets is difficult any way. Stair carpets are wildly difficult!

I will do it myself. I'm not even 100% sure what I'm going to do with them yet i may not do carpet. The stairs will likely be one of the last things i do

Worth it though if it came out nice 👌
I have nevervused a laundrette in my life.

I'll let you into a secret...I love launderettes. Not in this heat obviously but generally I love them. And the quilt really did come up well. It's my heaviest, it almost weighs the same as me. It tumbles and fluffs up brilliantly

@DrMadelineMaxwell your list of achievements is intimidating. Well done you! I aspire to this sort of list.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/08/2026 09:59

It is a list spanning a full 6 weeks to be fair.

Is it a feather one? I had a superking one a while back. I could barley lift it. So i got rid of it. Was nice though.

Not feather. It's an ancient all-seasons quilt, which is made up of two quilts of different togs, they snap together to make one extra heavy winter quilt. The heavier part is ridiculously heavy.
It's about 25 years old and lives on my kitchen sofa under a sofa throw. Debenhams I think, when they had department stores.

I’ve got loads of things to do as well, so you’re not alone. I’m a bit of a hoarder, so I’m trying to become more minimalist.
I’m going through my old books and magazines to decide whether I’ll read them again.
I have far too many clothes in my wardrobe, so anything I haven’t worn for over a year is going to the charity shop.
I’ll do the washing at the weekend.
As for DIY job, I leave those to my DH when he has some free time.
I’m making a to-do list and ticking things off as I go. And so on. Phew, it’s hard work!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/08/2026 11:35

Skip run done.

Back to work (school) on Tues and i get bugger all done during term time beyond day to day keeping on top of stuff as work is full on, especially in the autumn term.

I shall be aiming to strip the paint of the hall banister before the end of monday. Hopefully.
Maybe.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/08/2026 11:36

The paint stripper thing scares me.

Im trying to challenge myself to get a good amount done before the kids are back at school.

I have used paint stripper and heated gun before I don't know what one I prefer really. But yeah they are not nice to use.

What is your typical daily routine? Are there reasons you haven’t been able to complete some tasks for 2 months or is it just procrastination? If the latter, I totally understand! I work full time and try to leave major DIY projects for the weekend, but sometimes I put them off because getting started seems overwhelming after a long week at work.

Justanopinionnothingmore · 27/08/2026 13:13

I have this problem and I have ADHD. A thousand things need doing and end up doing none. Until it needs doing. My brain runs on priorities now and later.

To get moving, I highly suggest putting on some music that you absolutely love and dance around for a bit. That stokes the dopamine needed to do what is needed. Can't expect an engine to start with no fuel right? This is the same for me.

I use fast dance music or electronica or house music.

Good luck!

I don't have a routine looking into possible ADHD. A few thing's seem to match but I don't know if anything will come it. Some of it is probably laziness. I get something in my head then end up having Several things at once going on. I do 90% of stuff on my own. Im not very strong so I struggle there as well. I have bursts of energy but I get tired quickly.

Procrastination is the thief of time....who said that? I can always find distractions, so this is what I do.
Make a list in the evening. Work out how long each task might take. Prioritise the tasks. Start with task no.1. Get out all the stuff you will need to complete it. Go to bed.

Next morning, get up, get ready, pick up the tools or items and get on with it! When it's done, tick it off.
Rinse and repeat, fitting each task into time you have available. You'll soon have loads done and the deep satisfaction of having done them.
It's getting the kit out that does the trick. You would never put your stuff back would you.

Justanopinionnothingmore · 28/08/2026 16:01

Whyohwhy99 · 27/08/2026 13:54

It's okay if you don't want to dance, apparently any movement is good like even tapping your foot or your fingers. Any movement helps to get started.

Another method is the one fork analogy. Say a chore needs to be done like filling a dish washer. You tell yourself you're only putting one fork in there so you do but what are the chances you'd actually stop at one fork. Once you got started, you would actually probably do the whole thing.

I think it is about breaking tasks down into smaller and more manageable tasks that make it easy to transition from one job to another. This is something I struggle with and breaking things down into more manageable things make it easier for me.

Looking at it whole feels like a mountain then making it mole hills makes it more realistic to be done. I am on fire at work now I have learned to work with my brain.

Uricon2 · 28/08/2026 16:09

You know @Whyohwhy99 I feel you. A fairly new heart condition plus really big beta blockers are making me feel like breathing is really a massive effort most of the time and that plus a natural instinct (almost pathological) to favour procrastination is turning me into Jabba the Hutts less energetic sister. I am a full time carer for DH and what energy I have has to go on that, and I hate it as there are so many things I should be doing, but the lack of oomph is real and can happen for so many reasons.

Perhaps we all need to be a bit less self critical . Flowers for you

Do finances allow outsourcing OP?

Blinds, drawers etc... sod that

I hope your ok. Your situation is very different you have a medical condition that effects your breathing. When breathing is effected it takes a big effort to do things and get tired quickly and have to rest after doubf something like make a bed or walk up the stairs. When my iron levels have been bad I struggle to get up the stairs i get breathless and can't complete a sentence. Obviously iron issue is not the same as a heart condition. I'm trying to say if I have struggled due to lack of iron it must be much worse for you.

I saw that there were new posts and said ah ffs to myself and went and done a few bits before opening the thread 🤣

I wouldn't put it passed me to put 1 fork in the dishwasher.

I do tell myself that if I do at least something its one thing done. But that one thing could be fold the washing. Then my next one thing might be strip some wallpaper which I then leave on the floor. My 3rd something could be sweep the hall floor. I tell myself at least its something that dose need doing. But there's no links to it. So i don't get anywhere. I know that I do it but I don't change it

Thanks @Whyohwhy99 , that's kind of you. I think whatever we're coping with is relevant, it's about how it affects us. I really hope your iron levels are stable now, they will very much cause problems as you describe if 'off' I know.

I'm nearly 2/3rds through a 38 week wait for cardiology and when I eventually get to the top of the queue, I'm hoping an ablation or pacemaker or something will help.
