I need to moan about myself.

I have about 18? Blinds that i need to put up. They have been stacked in my living room for at least 2 months.

I need to hang the doors in my storage unit. Been like that for about 2 months.

I need to put 3 chests of drawers together they have also been sitting there for about 3 months.

I need to moved ds bedroom contents down to his new bedroom.

I need to catch up on washing as always and general house work.

Oh yeah and I need to fit a new stair carpet

I bought ds a massive bundle of clothes from vinted. But managed to mix it up with his old clothes now I don't know whats what.

Energy is zero right now. It normally picks up a bit in the afternoon. So in a while I will put some music on and at least do something. Ds wants us to build something together. I don't even know where my tools are probably spread all over the house not where they should be. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a screw driver in the freezer

Op can you use the 5 mins method ?put a timer on and promise yourself you will only do 5 mins ...hopefully you will want to carry on but if not it doesn't feel as daunting and you are allows to stop !

Yes i do that. But i dont set ab alarm otherwise I will just stop after 5 mins I normally check the time. Do as much as i can in what I think is 10 mins. And then I feel better about what I got done then. I do it again like a challenge. I think its mainly the getting started.

due to conditions and illness' i have to be very careful what i do or i get exhausted and end up in pain.
i do it one job at a time for a start. washing perhaps and i have just got a dishwasher so its easier for me to keep on top of the washing up.
what job is more important? i would say moving bedrooms its the holidays so he can help. the mixed up clothes? maybe wash the lot so they are all clean regardless then see which fit and which your son likes.
make a list of what is important in order

Yes that's exactly what I'm doing.
Dish washer is a god send glad its helped you 💐

Book someone to come and do the blinds , carpet and flat pack and give yourself some headspace

Our two local (ish) tips have been closed since July and no date given for re opening.
Our local (ish) charity shops are currently not taking donations.
I could weep.
We've got so much stuff for the tip (garden project and house project) and some really good stuff for the charity shops from dhs late uncles house.
Sigh.
I'm pottering around doing what I can, but the piles of stuff is getting to me 😕

Either you live near me or everyone is closing their tips at the moment 😏

cheesegrated · 26/08/2026 16:13

Good for you for making yourself accountable! I gave myself all week to do a list of things we'd been putting off and since I am off work, I'd do them
I'd say I've done half of it - the "easy" stuff. But the half I have done is half arsed.
I should have married a handyman...or a cleaner. 😂

Good luck with your list!!

I agree! Throw money at the problem and book a handyman to get most of those jobs ticked off your list.

Install the sharing app Olio.

There is a free version.

Take a photo of what you want to get rid of, list it, and most likely someone will want it, and come to collect it.

I got the app in the first lockdown, when all the chsrity shops were closed and I couldn't get rid of stuff. Sometimes it was just "bag of women's clothing"

I leave the items in a crate by the front door - contactless collection.

I'm a Food Waste Volunteer now for Olio - once a week I collect the days reduced food from my local Tesco and list it. People come and collect it, so it gets used and not just thrown away.

Olio is fab! So quick and easy to use. I leave everything out the front on the arranged day for people to collect too so I can just go about my day.

You're overwhelmed and have taken on too much. You need to delegate, either to family members or to paid help. You also need to go easy on yourself. Learn to say 'no' and to let some things go. Be kind to yourself xx

No 😳. I'm not letting people in my house. Plus. Ds wants us to do it together.

I hear you.
I try to do one job per day then it's not too overwhelming - but you do need to make a start.

Is there anyone you can rope in to help you out? That's an awfully long to do list for one person.

X

Cheering you on @Whyohwhy99 ☺️

I don't think I've ever seen a house with 18 windows! Is that really how many blinds you need to hang? I'd lose the will to live after 2 😫

I stopped giving to charity shops as they always paused collections. I now just post as job lots on Facebook market place, no sorting, no holding, first to turn up gets it. Always had stuff picked up and gone within an hour of posting

18 blinds??? Do you live in a mansion?

Crucible · 26/08/2026 23:10

I went to a stinking hot launderette this morning. And used the dryers too, after the wash. Fucking hot. Go me. I ate the frog. Big quilt came up lovely. I've a list about a mile long.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 26/08/2026 23:14

I have so many bin bags to sort!
I'm off for the 6 weeks as I teach, but my kids are grown so instead of running around keeping them entertained I try and blitz as many jobs in the house as I can that get ignored the rest of the time.

This year I've
Redecorated the kitchen and bathroom.
Had the boiler serviced, and the gas fire serviced (and condemned £££)
Painted various doors in the house
Bought new curtains for various rooms and hung them
Reorganised storage in the airing cupboard.

Had sort outs in various rooms inc the summer house.
And I'm about to tackle stripping the paint off the banisters.

I have various bin bags that need to be organised into
Rubbish
Charity shop
Recycling.

I need to contact a scrappy to collect stuff
And I need to take rubbish and recycling to the skip.

But tomorrow I'm having as a lazy day for me!

BogRollBOGOF · 26/08/2026 23:30

I did a tip run today 😇

I can't remember how many months ago it was since I registered my car at the tip, but there was crap that had been biding its time in the garage for a year.

Worth it though if it came out nice 👌
I have nevervused a laundrette in my life.

Sounds like you have done loads. Similar to some of the things I should be doing but I'm not 🙄

Feels nice to have new decorated rooms though. Shit about the boiler though.

Enjoy your rest today.

Pay a carpet fitter to do the stair carpet. Fitting carpets is difficult any way. Stair carpets are wildly difficult!
