My stomach does not like it when I go abroad - help!

My poor guts when I go away.

Starts on the aeroplane - really bad gas. I have to really restrict what I eat.

I took a bloating stomach supplement and nexium in preparation. Didn’t help at all

Yesterday - had a very simple breakfast of boiled eggs, bit of salmon, cucumbers, tomatoes and a tiny bit of cheese. Then had chicken Pho soup for dinner. Zero alcohol :(

Same breakfast today yet I’m back on the toilet and my stomach sounds like it’s have conversations with its self. Feels like I’ve been punched in the gut.

I’m in a nice hotel so I shouldn’t be having this 🥴

Same every time I dare to leave uk.

Any one with these problems what do you take?

I’m the opposite. Currently on my 6th day of diarrhoea. Returned from Egypt 5 days ago

Try Buscopan? Two before flying. One next morning before eating.

My stomach expands massively on a plane - it's so painful! I can't even wear leggings. I look about 15 months pregnant and my stomach is a massive hard balloon. It doesn't matter whether I avoid food, avoid coffee, alcohol or eat and drink the lot. Then I'm bunged up for 2-3 days when I get anywhere. I'm in Japan at the moment and tried the viral convenience store remedy. It didn't work!

How much are you moving ? It is critical for me to maintain movement eg steps/ running whatever to keep things moving

Essentially, as the plane ascends, the atmospheric pressure in the cabin changes and this means any air trapped in the gut expands causing bloating.

This is common knowledge.

I didn’t know this - last holiday abroad was ruined by bloating and constipation. I wondered if it was something to do with the flight - how can I avoid it please, any tips?

RandomMess · 26/08/2026 12:49

My body doesn’t even cope with the switch between very hard and soft water within the UK 🙄

MageKing · 26/08/2026 13:18

I wouldn't consider eggs and salmon a simple breakfast and if my stomch is in the modd to act up, I'd avoid completely. It's annoying as hotel breakfasts can be great, but unless we're having a very late one, it's toast, maybe some yoghurt, and at a push a small pastry for me, with some fruit. Nothing else.

Oh and do you know happy baby pose from yoga? Lots of that. Interspered with child's pose and twists.

In fact I'm sure there's yoga for bloating on youtube.

Good luck op! I thought I was going to have to go for a poo on a transatlantic flight last year. Flying makes my bowels move.. (I didn't, thank god. Just went to the loo for lots of farts!)

I will absolutely try the yoga poses in the morning - thank you.

In the end I pretended it was the guy in front of me as I was trumping every five mins - it was ridiculous 🥴

I’m swimming a lot - in the pool with the kids. Ive not had much gas today just pains - but I’ll be avoiding eggs in the morning!

If consider this a clean simple breakfast - as it’s not a full fry up 😆

It's the water.

You might not drink it but things are washed in it, like the salads.

It’s not the water as it starts before OP has left the country.

It’s the air pressure in the cabin causing you to bloat and then it has a lasting effect for a few days. You have gut lag!

Anotherrollpleasesally · 26/08/2026 17:21

Actually it was this as I asked for advocado too!

I wonder if standing up and moving about would help whilst I’m actually on the plane

from a digestion point of view is what I meant. there's a reason things like eggs and salmon are considered really good foods but is it the fat content or something? I'm not sure, I just know that if I'm not feeling at my best, this kind of food will upset my stomach.

Looks healthy OP but this breakfast would kill me for the day. I do have IBS and can have an off tummy from just about anything, but I avoid eggs and the fat content of the salmon is a no. I'd try for more fibre and some yoghurt

My goodness, aren't you perfect?

Fuck you...

It's not a head scratcher.

Talking about having a shit on holiday - every adult knows how to deal with it.

reginaphalangee6 · 26/08/2026 18:32

Yep I had this and we only went to the Balearics. Multiple movements a day, very loose, cramps. I foolishly kept on drinking cocktails and wine because it was AI and I was on holiday but that probably didn’t help either. I think it’s a combination of the water, heat and change in diet. Mine usually settles down just as it’s time to come home.

Backtodevon · 26/08/2026 19:36

i often get the same - and I swear by Weleda digestion calming drops
