What do girls wear in sixth form

No jeans, sweatpants or hoodies allowed and they must have smart leather shoes.

I would stay go for things that would meet smart casual at work. Dresses, plain knee length skirts, plain trousers including chinos, plain T-shirts or polo shirts, plain wool jumpers, black socks to fit with leather shoes.

Patterned shirts and striped polo shirts would also work.

But we are talking about 6th forms in schools?

The OP just said "6th Form" which can be within a school or a separate large 6th Form College.

I work in a secondary with sixth form and DS goes to a separate sixth form and those are literally the only things students wear in both places. In the heatwave some were more or less in beachwear (crop top and lycra shorts). In the 90s I went to art college and everyone dressed alternatively (goths, punks, emo kids etc). I find it quite bizarre that a sixth form would care about dress codes in 2026.

Yes my all local schools (whether comp, grammar and private) have similar rules. Quite estate agent vibes I always think. My super academic private school let us wear anything and I loved feeling so grown up. Quite sad for my kids but they can always do band t shirts and dms at uni if they pine for scruffiness of yore.

Ds still had to wear school uniform in 6th form! Local state school. I would say some plain trousers to start for your dd, dm's and some shirts and then see what others wear.

Yes entirely possible, I think our local 6th form college has 7,000. I think they can wear anything they want.

Wide leg trousers and plain tops - T-shirt type and cardigans, knitted tops, those waistcoat style tops that are all in fashion at the moment are prevalent amongst our grads at work. A few smart casual blouses around too. Those that wear leather shoes tend to wear loafers or boots in the winter. Lots of browns, beiges and neutral colours I’ve noticed.

Office/business wear at DD's school. She got skirts, trousers and blazers mainly from Mango, Zara and Next, paired with plain long sleeve T shirts or fine knit jumpers. Had to wear shoes, not boots so also black opaque tights. Handy hint - if more than 1 female in the house wearing said tights, give each a colour coded laundry bag to wash them in. Highly irritating on a work day trying to put on my skinny DD's tiny tights

DD started uni last year, she packed jeans, jogging bottoms, T-shirts and hoodies with combat boots and trainers.

She packed one pair of smart trousers and one really nice, formal top in case she would need anything smart. Didn't use it but had to buy an evening gown for a end of year society event.

So much for "preparing for adulthood" or whatever the reason for ridiculous over the top school uniform and 6th form dress code is.

I mean, I work in banking, City of London, and even our branch managers only wears ties for major formal events. The board members in HQ abroad are similar. So outdated.

I think making the kids dress like estate agents when the teachers are more casual is ridiculous. My DDs are much happier wearing what they want at 6th form college.
