Do you give tradespeople your Wi-Fi password while they are working?

Do you offer tradies your wifi password? We did this last night for an electrician we've been using for years and a painter we've known for years too. I'm not sure I would for a random that I've not used before who was only round the once...but the painter wanted to listen to the Rest is Politics podcast and couldn't get data...

Yes because there's no mobile signal here so they have to use WiFi calling.
It was a pain before WiFi calling came in because they would have to go up the road to make calls.

Yes, we do as signal is poor here so wifi calling essential and means they can use the web to look things up or place an order.

I've never been asked, and I'd be a bit confused if someone wanted it. Can't they just use their mobile phone data? I'm not sure why you desperately need the Internet when you are supposed to be working.

Don't most tradies still bring a portable radio/CD player with them? The last one we had did, and I didn't mind them listening to music, but I don't think I'd provide my wi-fi password.

Was this in 2005? Most people use spotify or listen to the radio through an app these days, very mean not to give the WiFi password given signal can be patchy and using data costly

can you imagine changing the password every time you loan out the WiFi. I hooked up a new device this week and it said it detected more than 50 devices already on the network. Changing the password requires logging into every single one and updating.

It's like giving someone a key to your front door. Granted most people would not know how to use it but do you really want to risk someone spying and hacking into your bank account?

I don’t think they can…. But I may be wrong. We only found out when we were raided by the police….which was extremely traumatising and very distressing.

That’s what happened to us. And our provider reported it and the police came knocking.

No, I wouldn't - it's not public service like at a library or cafe. I'd let them use my phone to make a call but that's it. If anything went wrong how on earth would you prove it wasn't you or that you weren't somehow complicit by giving them access?
