My Gran told me my cousin died after drinking coke

This was like 35 years ago and as a child/teen she always used to say to me don’t drink coke straight out the fridge as it could give you a heart attack.

I obviously took it with a pinch of salt and assumed his tragic heart attack was a coincidence and not caused by a cold drink.

I’ve just realised, wasn’t that sort of coke was it! I’ve messaged another relative who’s confirmed my suspicions 🙈

Coca = coca leaves, kola = kola nut which has caffeine in it.

Like Irish mammies! And leaving the house with wet hair will land you in hospital intubated with pneumonia.

And Chinese grandparents.

The Italians are mad for the wet hair. Soft plays have hair dryers so if your kid got sweaty you can dry them off so they don't risk going out in the open with a slightly sweaty head. Going out with wet hair will leave your child, at best, with a stiff neck, at worst, dead in the street.

But we aren’t made of the same stuff as a 2p coin so it’s wholly irrelevant!

Lemon juice and vinegar have the same effect. Unless you’re made of pennies (or more specifically, are made of pennies and don’t want your copper oxide tarnish removed) you’re fine to consume Coca Cola, lemon juice, and vinegar.

Nothing, absolutely nothing! I tried it and my 2p was still tarnished….waste of coke I tell you!

When I was little my mother’s go to for every illness was Khaolin and morphine. It was bloody excellent.

I still have a bottle in my medicine cupboard. The original stuff with morphine in. It’s out of date but I still use it once in a blue moon! I’m sure there can’t be that much actual morphine in it.

We had it too when I was a child. It's specifically for upset diarrhoea, because being an opioid, morphine bungs you up.

My mother also swore by neat hydrogen peroxide for all cuts and grazes. My aunt (mum's sister) was very liberal with the iodine if you fell over - so we never told either of them if we hurt ourselves.

Kaolin and morphine is also good for dogs with upset tummies. 👀😁

Kaolin and morpine was the go to stuff in our family. It made you feel quite weird when it went down.
Mum was a devil with the Dettol when we had scrapes. Always had to bathe any cuts then a big plaster on it. Often put it in the bath too.
My aunt used to slap Germoline on cuts it was the smell that would follow you round for days! Just like TCP

My mum used to make us gargle with TCP if we had a small throat.

The poor dogs used to get dettol baths quite regularly to keep them hygienic. I was put in a dettol baths less frequently.

Coke the drink didn´t have cocaine, it had coca leaf, which isn´t the same thing at all!

Spanish grandparents, or possibly all Spaniards, also must believe that some terrible ailment will over come you if you take your scarf and puffer jacket off except between about mid June and the end of August.

I like to mark myself out as a foreigner by wandering around the remote mountain villages of Andalucia that we holiday in wearing just a dress or t shirt and cropped trousers during 20 C+ heat that regularly occurs at just about all times of year. According to.my df goingnto bed with wet hair was a surefire way of getting both pneumonia and rhumatism in the neck.

They still do in the hospital, dental and ENT, it’s a local anaesthetic and vasoconstrictor.

Pepsi was created as the ‘non cocaine’ version, which the good Christian kids in America drank!
